Title: 40 yrs of 911
Post by: Rich - Team Gulp Racing on September 12, 2003, 04:04:33 pm
Exactly forty years ago to the day - 12 September 1963 - the Porsche 901 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The 901 was quickly renamed when Peugeot claimed that they'd 'trademarked' all 3 digit model numbers with a zero in the middle - the Porsche '911' was born.

There you go - the perfect excuse to have a couple of extra Becks tonight.

Happy B'day, 911!  from all of Team Gulp Racing

 ;D

Think I'll give mine an oil top-up tonight as a b-day present and then thrash the living sh*t out of it after.

I think you hit the proverbial right on the doo-daa there Steve. The evils of the devil's potion .. and we love it!!!!!  ;D

All I can say is that 1963/1964 was certainly a vintage period, don't you think??

 :)

Rick, without a doubt.

I'm going to a school reunion next week - class of 1980 - and I haven't really kept in touch with anyone from school since I left.  I was too busy trying to escape from the ghetto!
Anyway, it'll be "interesting" to see how people have aged - oh no! I feel a attack of nostalgia coming on   :-\

It's a lovely warm sunny Monday morning.  I feel like saying 'Sod work' and getting my cobra replica out of the garage and going for a blast out into the countryside.  ;D ;D (flies in teeth ?)

Steve, I was in the class of 80 too (ie O levels in 80) and at that time was motorbike and car mad, an affliction I have yet to overcome. But nostalgia ain't what it used to be, unless you are HGB and live near to Spa. Top piccies HGB, BTW.

I say take the Snake up the road and wring the bastards neck! This is likely to be the last of the good weather and I guess we'll soon be locking our pride and joys away til next May, so you have to grasp the moment.  In no time we'll all be too old for this sort of caper anyway. I will be taking the Commer out for a burn up some time this week. Stay off the roads in Sussex if you value your lives!

Andy

Itinery for this burn-up would be appreciated.  At lease we could stay off the roads, and watch from a respectful distance ;D

Will be in Manor Royal lunchtime tomorrow to pick up stuff from the HSS tool hire place. Then back thru Three Bridges and maybe a quick stop in Tilgate Park for a bit of harmless perving. Someone once said it would be ideal for a bit of cottaging. Well, a commer van is a real weirdos vehicle!

I bought it off a bloke in Lincoln who looked like Fred West with a pierced tongue but without the broken neck. He told me that all the kids in the area knew the COMMER. Not too sure what he meant!  Maybe they are all like that in Lincolnshire...

Damn  I will be stuck in the office in London all day. Not about on Wednesday or Thursday by any chance?

Only the real locals are ..... us "imports" are quite normal. Moved to Lincolnshire 5 years ago and not showing any signs of calling anyone "me doock" yet - give me time though. I'm originally Kentish me, well something sounding like that anyway!

You could be like me and come from Luton.
I had to run away to sea to avoid the stigma  ;)

I love to see cars of this era seriously sideways at a corner.  I'm afraid new tyre and suspension technology has a lot to answer for!

I agree Steve. A surfeit of power over grip has a lot to recommend it as a spectacle.

Sounds like the Commer!  ;D

No! Nothing on earth sounds like the Commer. It has a wheezing and rattling sound all to it's self. Except perhaps for the awkwardly named sponsors of the yellow 911 above, who seem to be called Stateo Fart. Or are my eyes playing tricks again?

Oh no,  you're reading it wrongly, the pictures aren't sharp enough. It doesn't read Stateo Fart, the sponsor is State o' Fart. I know it, I stood beside the car.  ;D

Nice pics! The vette isn't nearly sideways enough though - obviously saving his (skinny) tyres. Good stuff - always nice to see street cars toughing it out.
