Title: What are you taking to le Mans this year? *Pics Required*
Post by: WhiteBaron on May 18, 2009, 11:00:04 pm
Hi all,

Steve from the Kanterbrau owners club kent here (T-shirts available shortly)

I think what is needed to help me get into the LM spirit is a thread with all the transport and anything else you fancy sharing a picture of, that will be gracing this years Le Mans 24.

If you are particulary pround of anything you are bringing or just want to show off your motor post a pic here. It does have to making this years trip though!

so this is my bike that will be travelling to Le Sarthe for the first time.

obviously i am aware that this thread may get hijacked but lets try and get as many pictures as possible and not deviate too far.

Steve

ps see you in BN i'll be there from monday pm

Ahhhh a thing of beauty.... sleek, elegant and fantastic to drive.... Who on earth parked that old sportscar next to the beloved Commer?

Plan A was to stuff all the gear into a Vectra estate and haul the bike down on a trailer. Had to  revert to plan B of riding the bike down all the way as the tow car is now history.

Cool! I always fancied an R65 when i was a schoolboy. Is the R45 as guttless as it's reputation would have you believe?

In a word, yes.  But it will cruise all day at 80 and the staggering lack of power translates to 20,000 miles on each rear tyre

I'm really not sure who parked that silver sportcar thing by the Commer, but if I see him I'll have a word!

 :D

Gilles, I saw a rather sad Karmann Ghia at the Transport Day at Snibston on Sunday, silver coupe but  the paint had had rust measles sprouting out of its pores. looked as if it had been parked in a body shop after the respray and caught grinding particles everywhere. I loved it but felt awfully sorry for the car and its owner. I just couldnt bring myself to take a picture of it.

When I were a lad I always coveted one of those...

it's a similar story to the one I drive.

Imported and sold new in Australia in 1971 (the reason why it's RHD), bought by the present owner a few years ago in Australia in a classic car seller, really rusty even with dri australian climate, restorated from bodywork, and reimported 2 months after restoration in France. But the owner had to leave to Cambodgia for a few years for professional reasons, so he asked me to take car of his car, driving it as much as possible because driving is maintaining, and waiting for his continental return.

And I read in VW web forums that rust is the main defect, mainly or framework and door panels, but like every VW production of these years.

The KG's were always lovely looking cars, particularly the early "low light" models.
Rust was (is) their biggest enemy and attacks everywhere between the headlights and tail lights. There are enough repro repair panels available that you could nearly build a whole car!! ;D
The Razor Edge Ghia based on the type 3 floor pan was also a looker but was even more rust prone.

I have always liked VW's... perhaps I should like my camper enough to get it back on the road one day!

Shame about the Sixfire, remember seeing you on the way out of the 'Stone last year (or was it the year before...?)

Lara is from the MG stable, out of Pininfarina via Healy and Enever. Abingdon rules (they say)

So she's a Midge

We'll have a Sprite or two too, Garyfrogeye with his red beauty and Nick with Cherryscoop. Sadly Bob's Vermilion EFi 1500 is hors de combat this year.

Poor bugger's having to come in a BoxsterS.

Oh well he'll have the Midge again next year, so will Toby

For me, it is the MGA as usual, which passed it's MOT yesterday - that's the car in the middle, flanked by the Gary's Frog and Bill's Abingdon thoroughbred MG stablemate - for anyone with sight difficulties, they are the cars behind the babes .....on the basis that the Hawaiian tropic girls appear not to be there this year, we're rather hoping that the Flux Babes will reprise this recent picture taken at Marham.................

Plan A (who am I kidding actually - me, a plan !!!) was to take the Giulia GT.

But it's still in bits.

Plan B - take Darth, the GTA

But the fuel bill would be crippling and it isn't much of a load carrier !

Plan C - see if AR would lend me a 159 Q4 like they did for the Lombard Revival and RAC - again, but they were having non of it after the colour the last one came back !!!

Plan D - go in Dr.S's Vito, seems like a great idea on reflection !!!

PS, the Giulia will be going to the classic next year and then over the Alps to Milano for the centenary celebrations.

To attach a JPG file it has to be below a certain size (so some high res pics will need downscaling - which is good otherwise they often exceed the visible screen size and cause sideways scroll bars). As you are posting, click the Additional Options button and you can add the file there. it will then be uploaded onto the CA server - may take a short while on a slower connection.

Or, as many of the above has done, upload your picture to a web site and copy the address in between the words (http://)

The Veccy is on the ramp as we speak. The Pwr steering failure was due to a tiny section of rubber H/P hose on a bend on a mile long pipe that runs from ahole to breakfast time. This will be New Forest style adjusted and all will be good soon... Bring on PPR in full colours ;D

Bit of a cheat because I'm not bringing her myself.  But here she is during one of her finer moments with me in the passenger seat. ;D

I will be taking the usual, cannot find an Avant at the right price over her. At least the colour is fashionable now.

Possibly posted before but both will look different in June!!

Aahaa, good ole New Forest Engineering Ltd.

I sometimes wish that car designers were brought on a farm, the agricultural designs were the easiest to fix.

Before my beemer was murdered, I took it to main agent for something. "we can replace anything" was their answer. Where are the mechanical engineers these days?

I had one of them Stu, back in 1988. It was a 518i reg E48 LRV. Easily the worst cat I ever owned.  :( Beautifully built, but with only 105bhp and 3 series brakes, it was hopeless. And terribly unreliable. I took it to LM in 1989 to see the silver arrows win. Can you still get 205/15 Michelin TRXs?

No job = no money = no LM
