Post by: Lord Pig-Pen on April 16, 2009, 01:45:11 pm
As ususal I have left everything to the last minute... application going in via Post Office Check and Send tomorrow.

I used Check and Send when I got my first UK passport.  IIRC it all worked incredibly well and my purple passport arrived in speedy fashion.

I just replaced mine (replaced, not renewed, it wore out!!!). Travelling almost evey week I found a window where I had 2.5 weeks in the UK and sent it off - came back in the post 4 days later !!! Brill !!! (shame the same can't be said for my new photo - looks like I've just got out of 'the scrubs'  >:( )

The last time that I renewed mine it took about four working days too.

Sounding hopeful then. I will get my new pics certified as no one at work thought the original from 10 years ago looked anything like me. Already heve my certifier waiting, just about to leave work and head home to get some ghastly pictures taken. ;D

The  service should be quick but make sure that your photos meet the requirements otherwise they will send them back. I had that happen so managed to slow the service down.
There are online services that can take one of your own photos and format them to the correct requirements. I used one for my driving licence to keep the cost down.

Once they have an authorised pic, I thought they didn't need another? I recently applied for a photo licence and referred them to my passport pic, thus saving the hassle of getting a pic, getting it authorised etc.

We haved replaced about 6 passports using the Post Office service, and it has always been renewed and returned within the specified time period.

I would second the comments about photos though, they are very very fussy about the size.
Make sure that it is not half a mil to big or small, and every other requirement is met.
This applies to photos which do not need an endorsement as well.

Even passport control are getting pretty fussy. I had the laser op. and my passport photo shows me wearing glasses so I got the fifth degree.

I got, "This doesn't look like you." when I was checking in at H'row recently.  I looked the guy in the eye and said, "My hair's a different colour."

His reply ... "Oh yeah."

Twat!

What a useful web site this is.

Thank all for reminding me I needed to send off for a new passport.

I'll need it for my Hols towards the end of the year  and it needs to go off for a Visa so that's almost saved my bacon.

Thanks guys.

Glad Club Arnage could be of assistance. Do come back with any other non-motor sport problems - leaking roofs, foxes ruining your lawn, noisy neighbours - and we'll help all we can!! :)

Seriously, have a good time...
