Title: BBC2 tonight - Fords Dagenham Dream Post by: nopanic - neil on April 01, 2009, 08:20:01 pm BBC 2 - 8.00pm tonight (1st April) - Ford's Dagenham Dream
This was on BBC 3 last month, if it's the same program was very good. Worth a look or record and fast forward the boring bit (if any) Ah the good old British Ford - the good old days - when we made stuff! Title: Re: BBC2 tonight - Fords Dagenham Dream Post by: pretzel on April 02, 2009, 05:51:35 pm Yes, saw it thanks Neil. As you say - the good old days when we made stuff.
Bit of a trip down memory lane that one. Thought I knew about the old working practices and the fact that working on a continuous line was bad news, but boy it must have been really tough in that foundry! That plant was a masterclass in what they now term 'vertically integrated'. Raw iron in one end, shiny new cars out the other. Learnt something too - I'd never heard of Anita Taylor the racing driver before. She looked like she could handle a car, although Ford's PR team certainly knew how to exploit her looks at the time, even though she recalled that she really just wanted to race and hone her skills. Danica Patrick could learn a thing or two from her......Still, I digress. Hopefull the Beeb will show a few of the other motoring themed programmes they squirrelled away on BBC3 and BBC4 recently as I missed the majority of them first time around. I read a book yonks ago called "Working for Ford" which described working practices here and in the States. Fair made my hair stand on end. There was also a series of progrmmes by a non-driver called MIchael Smith (called Drivetime, iirc) which were superb, in BBC 4 (not 3)'s Joy of Motoring season last month. Worth watching if they come on again. Title: Re: BBC2 tonight - Fords Dagenham Dream Post by: pretzel on April 03, 2009, 02:39:37 pm Bit of a trip down memory lane that one.
