Title: French hotels Post by: Bentley boy on March 31, 2009, 11:36:18 pm Taking a weekend break over the channel @ Easter around the Boulogne Sur Mer area.
Anyone have an experience of the cheaper end of the hotel market in France. whats worth it & what to avoid? Hotel F1 is off the list & Premiere Classe might be a struggle for certain members of the family :-X all we want is something reasonable & clean a bit like a Travel Lodge or Inn ;) Please guy's she's driving me mental ::) Title: Re: French hotels Post by: nopanic - neil on April 01, 2009, 12:08:10 am for cheapish and clean hotels we have used these in the past, you might some where better but worth alook to start with
http://www.campanile.com/en/default.aspx we also use. www.laterooms.com - have used them for cheap hotels in London not used them yet, but told they are good - http://www.hotels.co.uk/ good luck, just think the more you save on the room the more for booze and food! Title: Re: French hotels Post by: Lord Pig-Pen on April 01, 2009, 12:16:45 am To be honest I have never used a "chain" hotel in France but have always had superb rooms in all the private owned ones I have used over the years, at reasonable rates too. I have never booked, just turned up and found what was available. This goes back 19 years since passing my driving test and heading off with whoever I was with at the time for a fun weekend in France ;D
Strangest event was taking the 2 Yanks back from LM 07 to the ferry with the offer of fuel and a free hotel for the nite.Nice Hotel in Dinard, cheap.. Lady PP and I had the same room last year! Spooky but very pleasant after 8 days of madness ;) Title: Re: French hotels Post by: Nordic on April 01, 2009, 08:50:07 am Have you looked at the Logis web page, good independent hotels, we have not yet had a bad one.
Otherwise look up the Accor group. They cover a range of prices within the group that include Novotel, F1 etc Title: Re: French hotels Post by: Bentley boy on April 01, 2009, 11:34:27 am Thanks for the replies I'll have a look into those :)
Title: Re: French hotels Post by: Lorry on April 01, 2009, 03:21:17 pm I'm sure there are two chains of hotels between Formule 1 and Premiere Classe, but I can only find the one, ETAP (part of Accor). Louvre (Premiere Classe etc) seem to have gotten rid of theirs, and I see they want €41 a night for PC, it was about €24 a few years ago, with the 2 cheaper groups being €18, and F1 €15
LPP is right of course, if you can find an independent its more fun (if clean) Try the local tourist board website Title: Re: French hotels Post by: Barry on April 01, 2009, 05:27:31 pm When on family trips we usually use Novotel's, you can usually pick up some good prices if you prebook on the net, although the weakness of the £ isn't helping.
i.e family room for 4 (2 under 16's) including breakfast €85. Prices do vary depending on which hotel you are looking at, and when. Title: Re: French hotels Post by: wishy on April 01, 2009, 05:28:51 pm I have stayed in the B & B hotels a few times in different locations around France. They are the next step up from Formule1,
They are/were around £32 a night for a family room. All rooms have en suite facilities, unlike f1 which has self clean bogs and showers down the corridor. Andy Title: Re: French hotels Post by: smokie on April 01, 2009, 10:16:34 pm As suggested above, http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/home/index.shtml . They are bland but reliable, and go from the basic F1, through Etap, Ibis, Mercure, to Novotel. I think Comforthotel is theirs too.

Andy I've found the B&B hotels/motels very comfortable particularly after a week at LM. Nice hot showers, comfortable bed etc. Decent food is normally a mile away. |
