Title: South Coast Chapter Camping Weekend
Post by: Lord Pig-Pen on February 04, 2009, 10:37:16 pm
I know its a long way off and we still have to survive Le Mans, but I have been thinking about a CA camping weekend down my way and need som feedback before its too late.

Details are as follows.
A mate owns a small campsite in my village with hook ups, waste disposal point etc and I thought it would be fun to have a get together there.
We, the Brethren collectivly own all our setup so can use that and another mate has kindly offered the use of his hog roast machine.

The site is just off the edge of the forest and about 3 miles from the sea.
Pubs are just up the road, as are farmshops etc etc. The site also has fishing lakes for those that like that and there is scope for clay shooting too.

The site gets booked up but we should be ok to secure it if I can let him know soon.

I was thinking mid August and that ties in with Wooly's birthday.

Let me know your views and we will see what happens.

It could be jolly god fun ;D

Woolys birthday is the 10th so it will be after that. Could turn into a big gathering if we can get all the troops and usual suspects involved.
Will keep you updated.

Baby will be 7 months old by then. I may even be allowed out....

I'll come if several conditions are met:

1. We need to have a blue laser.
2. Elvis needs to be there for a mash up
3. There must be non-participants staying on the site, particular those offended by loud noise.
4. We must have a piano.
5. There must be lots of things to burn (no, not the forest  ::) )

Hey, if it's successful we could all skip Le Mans next year and go to the same field. Just play motors TV very loudly in the background and no-one will notice the difference!

Geez, my birthday is the 13th of August, and I someone elses party on the 14th on this side of the pond. Going to a festival 20th till 24th, and consecutive holiday with the kids. So 15th till 19th would work out fine. ;D Is that midst of August enough Rex? ;D

Is the site big enough? I forsee a full-scale CA invasion with added Dutch flavour. Any chance of bringing the beer trailer over?

Gonna have to check on that... otherwise its hire the field opposite and a big Generator.
If we can have All of Andy's field then should be ok.

...and another mate has kindly offered the use of his hog roast machine.
I've heard of cooking hogs in cast iron bathtubs, buried in the ground, on spits and on many varieties of grills but I've never heard of a "hog roast machine", can you please enlighten this uninformed American with what exactly that is?

Hey Mom.. you are not far afield. Its an electrically driven spit which is encased in a stainless steel tube with closed ends, a hinged lid and adjustable gas burners down both sides. Simple,  Piggy (up to 180 lb Cleaned), clamped on spit, fire up and shut lid. 6 to 8 hours later you have a fine fully cooked hog with a full skin of crackling and perfectly cooked meat... mmmm
There is another Hog Roast Machine but he wont be invited ;)

Location looks to be moved further down the farm into the valley.... All neighbours will be informed, invited and given ear plugs. Noise wont be an issue... as long as its not too bad and finishes early enough... Say 5am.. >:D
Massive genny is available as are portaloos... its gonna be a big one!!

I'm sure from sound (pardon the pun) engineering experiences that excessive noise in valleys will be directed upwards to the stars :police:

UPDATE!
The owner of the land is starting to Pank about numbers and  :police: involvement due to noise. His wife however is all for it and I think she wears the authority trousers >:D
Alternative ground is available from another local Farmer who is as tight as a crabs derriere. Cash talks and I am on the case.
This event will happen... I may even have a word with Farther PP about usng one of his fields but he started my LM history so is fully aware of how we party ;D
A bribe, invite and getting him drunk may help....
I will keep you all updated as things unfold...
Numbers pushing 50 so far including local friends so should be fun....
IT WILL HAPPEN.... just where is the question at the mo ;D

A quick update on plans.
I am waiting for the other field owner to get back from Oz to make my offer of cash for the field.

As mentioned earlier, he is tight as a crabs behind so hopefully will accept.

It's on the same lane as my initial destination so still gives access to the fishing and clay shooting.

Catering plans are being discussed and it's looking like alongside the Hog Roast, we will have a couple of big gas BBQ's for communal use plus all our LM catering kit and my LPG cooker from home. My mate Jim and I are planning some specials toofor those that like things on the Curry side of life.
We wont go hungry!

A discussion over the inevitable costs will take place once a location is decided.... Discounts with the local farm shops can be negotiated, as can the beer supplies from the local (Draught Heineken, Ringwood Bitter and Thatchers Cider can be on tap)

Further details will be posted as I get them or think of them.

Ah

is that real Ringwood or silly little cans sort of thing

as you are aware these things matter to a gennulman of the boozing persuasion...

I can (and indeed have for 60+ years) live without any quantities of fermented beef-ish food with spices to kill the germs, but a BEER is a BEER...

This is important

or do we need a volunteer to dash to La Belle Patrie for box after box of 1664 from a handy Carrefour someplace?

it's a worry...

Ringwood bitter sounds excellent.  Local cask beer should only have to travel just over the next hill.

Boondoggle should go well in August with Old Thumper for 'later'. http://www.ringwoodbrewery.co.uk/boondoggle.htm (http://www.ringwoodbrewery.co.uk/boondoggle.htm)

Good research Steve.
Boondoggle is indeed a fine summer brew and Old Thumper is definaltly best saved for later due to its staggerability!
Thatchers Dry Cider is a 6% beauty which if drunk in quantity produces some unusual effects!!

I'll pass it on to all the G@y boys who miss LM due it clashing with a certain bicycle ride down Brighton. Well that's what they say they're doing, they always come back with sore arses.
