Title: Sebring attendance list
Post by: Chris24 on February 01, 2009, 12:47:47 am
Hi,

I have started this thread to see who is going to Sebring this year, from where and where you are staying whilst at the track. I already know some peoples plans but thought a proper thread would be a good idea.

This way i can work out roughly how many are staying with Pidges camp etc so that i can inform him accordingly.

I'll start off with

Chris 24 from the UK arriving Wednesday evening (with Bob U) and then camping with Team Pidge, leaving Sunday. But in Florida until the Wednesday.

George and I, but we may only be putting in an appearance on Saturday though...no camping planned  8)  (If we change our mind, we can get our own stuff via Glen, so best to not count us in for planning)

Hi Smokie,
Sebring without camping is like leaving Le Mans before the race starts. ;D Oh you have done that too :o
I hope you change your mind and join in the fun at camp.
I will be flying to Miami to help Pidge load the van and expect to arrive trackside Wednesday afternoon. Kirk isbringing the camper (luxury camping)
and he & I will drive it back to Canada leaving Sunday morning.

...as Smokie said, will only be at the track on race day Saturday, no camping this year.
Phil, glad to see someone is helping out Pidge, I feel real bad about not being around to help him pack up the van, told him he will get double the work out of me in 2010.

Good, glad to see that some of you are able to help him out with the gear. I would but my flight arrives in Orlando late Wednesday afternoon so Its not an option, but I will certainly pull my weight with any yet to do set ups thursday morning and the decamp on sunday.

We'll be long gone by Sunday, leaving on Sat evening so we can be at the Keys before midday, sorry...

Who drew the short straw for driving Saturday night.? Someone needs to be sober to leave the track on Saturday night.
 Breakfast in Key Largo?

Be aware that they don't sell booze before Noon on Sundays in Key West.  Party central, indeed.  ::)

Hi Martini,
Try Mapquest.com  The streets around Hialeah have two numbers which i think is Miami numbers ontop of local numbers. Definitely makes for confusing navigation.

Flights are booked, tickets & parking pass purchased.  The Mrs and I will be there early Sat. morning, driving down from Tampa.
Looking forward to seeing the whole gang.  Mark, we've got some shopping to do!  Andy Z, looking forward enormously to a good debate about the current state of our beloved sport, and sharing some memories of the glory days.

Hey John!!!
Great to hear you're back, dude.
What's your schedule? How long are you down for? Would love to have you and Kirsten over after, if your plans allow.
There's even talk that Dave might put in an appearance - like old times.

Minor change of plan for the 'advance party' arriving at OIA on Saturday (March 14).
I will pick you up, kerbside at the baggage reclaim - so, Vegas!, give me a call when you clear immigration.
From there we will score a quick eat-it-and-beat-it at The FoF and I will then transport you to River Ranch.
This saves a trip for ATCGreg.
I will have to be back in O'town on Sunday afternoon/evening, so whoever is picking-up the RV will need to ship-out when I do.
I've kinda lost track. Aside from JPC, Vegas!, Doris and Langtall, anyone else coming over this year thro' MCO who would care to meet for a beer prior to heading for the circuit?
Cautionary note: pack waterproofs - the weather is f*cking glorious right now, but there is rain in the forecast for race week.

Hi Matt

Look forward to seeing you again on Saturday!!

Checked in with Greg earlier today and he updated me with then latest plan. Julian (aka Spot) should be arriving at the same sort of time as us but he should be met by Shamrock (Glenn from Turn 10.5) with his car and then joining us also.

Noted from your email to Greg our ETA at River Ranch which seems a little early. Our flight, VS015, lands at OIA at 18.20 so by the time we are through customs and Langtall has had the requisite full cavity search for Dutch Herbs I doubt we'll hit the kerbside until about 20:00?

Title: Re: Sebring attendance list
Post by: Matt Harper on March 10, 2009, 11:42:35 pm
Hey Mark,
Sorry - I figured you were on the earlier LGW flight.
Greg isn't planning on cooking on Sat night, so we'd better stop and get a beer sponge down us before hitting the road.
My only concern is that cell coverage is a bit patchy out in the wilds - and I'm advised that my Suburban probably won't make it far beyong the front gate - so I'm wondering how we're going to summon Gishmeister to come and pick us up.
If you don't get your bags until 8'ish - it could be well after 10.00 by the time we get to Lake Wales - unless we sacrifice beers for fast food along the way (not exactly my preferance). "The Boy" is doing the driving and we'll have a couple of coolers of cold tubes, so you may have to park your lighter luggage on your laps.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again!
Safe travels.

How the devil are you?
Very pleased that you will be in attendance this coming Saturday.
Still not sure how we are going to be able to notify you that we have arrived, given the lack of cell towers out in BFE.

Matt,
It's a wonderful thought. However, I am taking Mrs Nobby and the 2 Nobblets to Thailand in 3 weeks, for the Easter holiday, so it may be a trip too far.
As I said, next year.

Can't argue with that, Nobby.
I thoiught I was nixed for Le Mans this year, but just got word that that might be back on my calendar (work in Europe), so maybe see you in France.
You should get your ass over here though. Sebring rocks. It's like Le Mans used to be, if you know what I mean.

Matt,
I am all for seeing Le Mans as it used to be. I have been going to Le Sarthe for around 15 years and from what I understand, Sebring has all the characteristics that I enjoyed at Le Mans in the first years I was there. As I said..........next year.
I can't get to LM this year as I have a family function that weekend, so I wont catch up with you. Save it for Sebring '10!

Assuming there are no terrible accidents, plane crashes etc , then by a process of extraordinary rendition, they will be delivered into the hands of Matt H for a spot of waterboarding and other torture. I never saw nothing guv...

As Matt said Nobby, Sebring has a lovely "old school" feel to it, the place has changed very little over the years.  You'll love it, if not this year, next for sure.  We'll knock a few cold ones on the Turn 10 scafolding for you.  Looking forward to seeing the rest of this motley mob Saturday, oh dear, not sure my liver is ready for this again...

The Moose is loose!  Jesus I hope he took a car this time rather than strap everything but the kitchen sink onto a Yamaha.

John,
It WILL be next year. There is no trip to Thailand next Easter, as 3 months ago, I stupidly undertook the challenge of racing one of my friends to the top of Mount Killimanjaro, in February or May next year. therefore, the end of March will be clear!

Will be looking forward to seeing you there Nigel, a terrific race, and the hospitality of the Turn 10 crew is something to behold.
Just checked the forecast for Saturday at Sebring, partly cloudy, high of 79, low 55.  Only 10% chance of rain.

I can recommend the whisky route up mount killi, it will take you seven days, more time to get used to the hight, believe me, you need it. It is also the hardest route, the coca-cola route is the easiest, but only four days and you stay in huts, the whisky route uses tents. It's kind of like Le Mans, 6 days without a proper shower, but then without the beer and loads of friends and race cars.  ;D

Knetter,
We are going to be doing the Whiskey. Although the longest, it has the highest success rate.
I've done a bit of trekking in the Himalayas a while back, so am all too aware of the AMS issues. That's the main reason we have gone for this route.

A nice piece about Sebring by the well know photographer John Brooks with a turn 10 flavor! (and a Club Arnage T worn by the amazing Randy who gets a name check)

There are also a couple of other good pieces on Sebring http://speedhunters.com/

Heard a reference to DFH and the turn 10 crew by John Hindhaugh not long after I tuned in to the Radio Le Mans broadcast yesterday evening for the qualifying. Good to hear that the enthusiasts are still recognised. Will be tuning in again tonight to see how things are going, jealous of those who are there, but looking forward to June...

I'm watching on Motors (who are using Radio Le Mans commentary) and Club Arnage got a mention earlier from John Hindhaugh. I didn't hear all he said though :'(
