Title: Silverstone Rally experience
Post by: Russ on August 14, 2003, 02:16:29 pm

I've got one of those 'red letter' rally experience trips at Silverstone at the weekend. Anyone got any tips?

I need to thrash my brother in the time trials!!!

Enjoy It is the main thing  :D

Cannot speak for the rally experience but have done similar on the track.

) Unless you are a seasoned pro and know it all then pay attention during the briefing sessions. They may be out of work racers and occasionally a bit patronising - but they have to cope with all abilities from moron upwards and are really trying to give you the info you need to enjoy the experience.

2) If you are driven by the instructor ask questions if the info you want is not forthcoming - again the more you know the better you will be able to handle it when your turn comes to drive.

3) Don't overdo it when it is your turn. Those who do and are all over the place will be black flagged and then it's no fun at all.

But over all ENJOY  :D

Cheers P,

Definitely not a pro, seasoned or otherwise. Did some karting once, did quite well for a first time (beat 15 others most of which had karted before), but that's about it.

I think I'd be in that black flagging catagory of 'trying too hard' so it's good advice!

It took quite a while before I stopped spinning off in the karting... but I blamed that on the wet-but-drying-out track...

Accelerator pedal is the one on the right, brake in the middle, and clutch on the left. Hand brake is that lever in between the seats.
Go fast, don't hit anything and have sh*t loads of fun !

Cheers Chris... I'll write it out on a crib sheet and stick it on the dash...

We'll be in Rally tuned 206's apparently... I just hope mine doesn't look like an elephant has sat on it by the time I get out!!  ;D

Well fun was had by all... I got a very sweaty head....

Lots of sideways action and some cool handbrake turns... mud and dust clouds followed my every move...was good fun making the engine scream but nothing compared to when the instructor takes over and shows you how it should be done!!! Dang near shat my pants!!!

Recommend it to those with a driving license!  ;D
