Title: Macau GP 1955 Post by: oldtimer on October 31, 2008, 02:36:24 pm On behalf of a colleague of mine I am trying to find information relating to Robert (Bob) Ritchie's 1955 Macau GP winning Austin Healey 100 and wondered whether there is anybody in CA who might be able to assist. I would like to find out more about the history of the car - maybe it still exists somewhere out there - and whether there are any images of the vehicle in action.
I have posted on the Austin Healey Owners Club forum too but thought I would try CA as well as I know there are many, many of you who have knowledge of, and interest in, historic racing... Thanks for your help! Title: Re: Macau GP 1955 Post by: Canada Phil on November 01, 2008, 03:56:12 am I am sadly disappointed. 12 Hours have elapsed since a serious sports car question has been asked.
No one who's friend / relative had been polishing said car just last week ::) No picture posted by Steve Pyro :'( No Link to YouTube with 29 minutes of "live" coverage of the race. No one has even bothered to hijack the thread ::) Good Luck Oldtimer. Some of us are interested in the outcome of your search. Phil  Title: Re: Macau GP 1955 Post by: Piglet on November 01, 2008, 09:22:41 am OK, I'll post the vaguely useful but doesn't answer the question post...
Try posting your question on the Motorsport History secton of Ten Tenths, lots of people who know useful things there http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=12 Whilst you are there (and anyone else) look at the Historic Image Archive at the top of the page http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=103 there are stacks of scanned film images posted by a chap named cub, the pics were taken by his father (Navyflier) who is still with us and posting history of the pictures. In an attempt to keep on topic see Le Mans 1959 http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110290 and my spiritual home Spa http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110390 These pictures represent a fantastic piece of history and having the chap who took them around to add detail to them is a real bonus. Title: Re: Macau GP 1955 Post by: Nordic on November 01, 2008, 10:00:32 am In addition to piglets advise, you could pose your question on the Atlas fourm.
http://forums.autosport.com/index.php?s= All sort of ex drivers and team owners lurk there. Edited to say...... Got curious so I have taken the liabity to ask myself! Title: Re: Macau GP 1955 Post by: Leftie on November 01, 2008, 11:09:47 am oldtimer,
Try the owners club.......... http://www.austin-healey-club.com/ (http://www.austin-healey-club.com/) Alternatively, I could have a word with a pal who owns a '58 'frogeye' and has been a member since buying the car in '60. Obviously it is not taxed, not insured and has no MOT. ;) Title: Re: Macau GP 1955 Post by: Canada Phil on November 02, 2008, 05:43:54 am Much Better. Still no picture from Steve. I wonder where he is holidaying this week ;D

I have been in contact with the Dellow register and they do indeed have a DVD of the race! A copy is on its way to me as I write. By all accounts it has quite a lot of footage of the winner receiving his laurels (literally) as well as some action shots too. The Dellow Register had some contact with Doug Steene who came second in the 1955 race driving a Mercedes 190SL but won in 1956. A replica of this Merc has been built and this year it was raced at Shelsley Walsh by Doug. Maybe some of you saw the car..? Bob Ritchie raced out of Hong Kong and I am currently in correspondence with some sports car clubs in HK which are now engaged in the hunt for the Austin Healey itself. I am enjoying this. ;D ;D |
