Title: Le Mans 2004
Post by: Robbo SPS on August 06, 2003, 02:23:31 am
I would love to see TVR Speed 12 , but thats never going to happen.

Otherwise anyhting British with 3 ( oy Bentley look at this ) BRITISH drivers.

Who was it that voted for Mercedes there ? I don't want to see Mr. N. Haugh at LM.  ;D
For me it's off course TVR. The Speed 12 is taken to bits in the factory and the project is officially abandonned. So, there is no chance we ever will see it at LM. However, they quite certainly will be there again next year with the Tuscan R.
Thinking twice, I also would like to see a Porsche prototype at LM again.

Definately want to see the Bentley back at Le Mans, fantastic car and we should all be proud of it. Being designed, built and run by a BRITISH team, who cares where the funding came from?

Second would be the TVR's, hopefully giving the Porsches a rattling.

Bring on anything British, the Lister would be great to see up there too.

Marky

The way I see it in the future........is!!!!

That the VAG Group will enter a team from each marque that they own.#

It goes like this

Audi

Bentley

Seat

Porsche

Lamborghini

Skoda

When they have completed the cycle.........they will start again ;D :)

When diesels are allowed to race at LM, I am sure that VAG will enter a car using this fuel.
But under what brand?
Seat or Skoda badged cars being entered might not be very far from becoming reality, although a possibility is a VW badged entrant.

I personally think they'll go back to Audi for their Diesel entry.

Rumours are that it'll be a VW using the V10 Diesel, oooohhh how it growls.

Not sure where it will be designed and built though...........

Isn't a shame that one manufactruer owns so many marques that have racing history.....wether it be circuit racing or rallying.

Time for the ACO to make rules allowing international car manufacturers only one marque to race at Le Mans.

Although this would seriously deplete the field across the board.

It would give a chance for all the small teams a chance to race without the ACO being over selective, because of entries being oversuscribed each year!!!!

In the 50's and early 60's you could entry a car and after negociate with an another team to give them this accreditation.

Did you imagine the possibility of a black market of accreditations ?

What about the VW Nardo , W12 . sounds great , its a sports car and owned by VAG.

Bit surprised no one has voted for MG , they are a british out fit with a British owner , and in 2002 were fairly quick .

VAG may race a SEAT , but i dont think they will try a SKODA . They are struggling in some markets to re-invent the marque with that UGLY badge.

I saw VW Diesel , not AUDI .  :o

SEAT were going to power a GT next year. But as the guy who whent out to spain to build the thing, found that the wind-tunnel was a tomato canning factory. Hes now back in F1. So guess that project is dead. Shame realy as I was going to make the tea & coffee for them in 2004.

Wish list for returns

Aston Martin (come on Ford....)
Jag (err come on Ford...again)
Lotus
MG

So you could have VAG vs Ford

So far the voting shows that the Bentley Boys need to go back . (45%)

The porsche idea is second favourite .But no one wants MG, why not , They are a British mass production car firm employing british people ( even if they are from birmingham ) . As patriotic brits shouldnt we support British people , the LMP675 car was very fast and looked really good .

At worst ...... The MG girls would be back at the Village :P :P :P :P :P

The Flying B , was and is a beautiful car , but they wont race it again, unless a privateer comes in , heres for hoping ,

VOTE MG , they wont come back because they cant afford to  , why , because not enough people but their cars , or that the MG TF is an Essex house wifes , hair dressers car ( like the Audi TT ) .

Call me thick, but I didn't realise that Bentley were not intending to race next year :'(

Bentley always stated that it was a 3 year deal to coincide with the launch of the Continental GT. Haven't heard anything concrete yet but the word is that Audi's new car for the 2004 regs will be a GTP, so there would be VW group conflict there. Can't see the cars being allowed to race in private hands either. Museum pieces now I'm afraid. (And maybe for the Le Mans Classic XV in 2030!!!!  ;) )

OK Gib, just for you, here are some memories!

(Just noticed on this first shot taken just as the flag is about to drop at the start of the race how many spare seats there are in the stand in the background!!)

Cheers

Motorsport Gold! Back of the net!

There were no spare seats in Tribune 7 at the start, tho there were at the end. Especially the pair of grumpy Germans sat behind us.

BTW I reckon no one voted MG as they are everybodies second favourite team. I don't think anyone actually dislikes them.

No spare seats in Tribune 5 either at the start OR the finish.

In fact there were more at the finish than the grandstand capacity, witnessed by the Fact that ther were 4 obnoxious ticketless French teenagers sat in our seats - and we only had 2 seats! (No offence to the French as a nation, just these 4 kids).

When we kicked them out they had to stand around at the back, annoying some other spectators who had paid good money for their seats too.

Grandstands Schmandstands....
God only knows why there are empty seats in the grandstands, the ACO always sell out. Could it be that those sh*teyarses at MRIand the like couldn't sell all of their allocation. A terrible, terrible shame. Or maybe the seats were corporate sales and the damen and herren at Ingoldstadt didn't take the freebies on offer. A shame either way.

I'm always surprised (I'm easily surprised) at the lack of uptake on the pits Grandstand, again, I suspect corporate hooligans at work here as well.

And while we're on about corporate hooligans, I tell you what I missed this year. This year I missed the sudden influx of herberts with freshly pressed shirts, haircuts and paper 'Audi' flags on the terraces opposite the start finish line. After all they do make the finish photos look good, especially if you have little or no support at the race. It's particularly endearing when they're standing right in your view. Maybe a freshly pressed flag up a freshly pressed a*sehole would help things. It's all a bit 'Billy No Mates' really.

Maybe the ticket sales could be made a bit more attractive if a few freebies were thrown in:

A real 12 bore for the shooting sideshow
Fresh fruit and a multi tool for Steves girlfriend
Wirecutters
A night in a tent with the ACO lady of their choice (my choice would be the siren who co-ordinates the ACO breakdown recovery, although the cost of an introduction was steep)
A kilt and a key to one of the track side gates.
A pet grizzly and unlimited haddock
A waistcoat made from frites and mayonaisse

A splendid idea Rick, but never mind "made to look like", let's make it out of long-life cheese and bread. When your bums a bit numb, and you're feeling a little peckish, one simply nibbles off the bits that are warmed through...

Nothing to add to any of this, it seems to be a complete wish list to me.

But Steve, a word of warning on tartiflete generally: never ever eat it.

Apart fro the terrible dyspepsia in confirs, do you really know what goes into it? I was in the queue once and saw a group of horrible French kids spit some used chewing gum into the half a ton of cattle-feed potatoes and industrial cheese simmering away in the pan. BTW the green bits arent chives, just handfuls of grass cuttings.

I left the queue immediately.

DISAPPOINTED  :-X
I love this stuff, I always wondered what that extra chewy bit was.
I think the cheese they use are the discarded clay pigeons that haven't found their way in to the kiln.
Mind you, when you're killing time between breakfast and the end of the race up in the grandstand on Sunday, a slab of tartiflete really hits the spot, plus I've got the rest of Sunday to sleep (and drink) it off  :D

Come on keep voting .

I spoke to a man from MG yesterday and asked him why they didnt go to Le Mans . He sid that they sold their cars to Knighthawk racing in the US for the ALMS ( and they are doing well ) .

But they will concentrate their efforts on Touring cars as most people have an idea about it , and in a poll 99% of people asked , didnt know who won Le Mans , when it is , etc , and so its not a good spend of their dosh .

Shame.....

But ........

Their new extreme car, with upto 900 bhp , maybe making a suedo factory backed apperance in the GT catagory . Maybe Team atomic kitten , with the kittens making a short shirted apperance............here's to wishing......

Thus far, nobody from the racing programme has been laid off. The company who are contracted to supply the staff that make up the team, still have 26 people being paid. :o
It's true to say that a descission was due, directly after this years race as to the position regarding next year. To date, there are still a few rumours regarding a defence of the crown.
Lets hope.
