Title: Belated thanks! Post by: kiwipugfan on July 30, 2008, 10:23:38 am Hi all
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help I got from the CA team leading up to our trip. My second time at the race was as good as the first, and I will be back! I know the guys I had with me were blown away by the scale of the event,a nd I think they are planning a return trip as well. Del - Thanks for the welcoming beers! Cheers Tony (and Lee, Blair and Nigel) Title: Re: Belated thanks! Post by: Andy Zarse on July 30, 2008, 11:55:03 am How's the weather down there, we heard it was a bit windy!
Title: Re: Belated thanks! Post by: Doris on July 30, 2008, 12:08:15 pm Tony,
Really sorry I didn't get to meet up with you and the guys at LM. Glad to hear you had a great time. How did the foot hold up? Andy - They've had a proper arse kicking off mother nature. Especially in the North Island. Some impressive pics on NZ newspaper websites. Stay safe down in Christchurch Tony. Met Service says you'll cop the rain and the wind right about now. Dx Glad I wasn't crossing the straight on this journey! Title: Re: Belated thanks! Post by: Steve Pyro on July 31, 2008, 12:02:36 am Doris, as an old ex-salty seadog, that's a mere leaf flutterer ;)
Let me tell you about when I was mid Atlantic on a tatty old container ship ................... blah blah blah Title: Re: Belated thanks! Post by: Doris on July 31, 2008, 12:16:44 am To be fair Steve you're probably right. It's only really bad when they cancel the sailings. Mind you the cross currents in the straight are renowned for making even the hardiest seafarer lose his lunch unexpectedly. :-X
So the mid Atlantic? Tell me more. I'm not sure I've heard that one. ;) Dx Title: Re: Belated thanks! The foot coped, but by the time we got back to NZ it was (and still is) pretty buggered! The weather is pretty crap at the moment, and we are due for the worst of it later this afternoon down here. Post by: Andy Zarse on July 31, 2008, 10:42:42 am I flew over the straight in March this year, flying out of Welly and looking across South island the scenery was uttely stunning, and you could watch the ferry making her progress up the Sound.
I'd done that crossing some years ago. I personally thought it was not too bad that day, but loads of other pax were bright green. One of the crew told me it was normal. Coming back three weeks later saw terrible weather, so six of us chartered a Cessna Caravan and flew; very bouncy but only half an hour of terror coming into the Windy City. Other friends stayed with the ferry option, which was delayed six hours, and on arrival they were drained of all life and stomach contents... Oh my, how we laughed! Title: Re: Belated thanks! Post by: Doris on July 31, 2008, 11:24:14 am Don't get me started Andy. You know I get over emotional when the view flying out of Welly is mentioned. ;)
