Title: Sadness!!!
Post by: Leftie on July 23, 2008, 12:24:22 am
Quote
Its such a big lump and a bugger to get in and out- i still awake screaming in the night thinking about when we put it in. Shame, it was a real cooking motor too- a tweeked 440 R/T motor out of a mate's crashed Charger- it jumped off the rollers twice before the guy running the rolling road gave up on it.
Had a look at it this evening and it's seized solid, oil everywhere   We've just spent a fortune getting the paint and the repairs done after the MOT monkey ripped off the door. It got new suspension, stainless exhausts, new rubbers and re-furbed wheels and new pirellis in the last few months too. So it looks like a full engine rebuild and a gearbox rebuild whilst its out to pay for now. Not a happy bunny tonight

I know how you feel mate, but not with that size lump.

Hope everything sorted soon.

Leftie

Yup, the B / RB is a big chunk of iron.  Have you got a Torqueflite on the back of that?

Is that an FF version?

Because of the vent behind the front wheel?

thinking about may be those had twin vents?

Good luck any way.

Yes Neil the FF had twin vents, this is just a boggo Mk II with Mk III wheels

Steve, It has a torqueflite at the moment but I want to fit the 518 box for the longer legs and slightly smaller fuel bills- maybe now is the time??

Smaller fuel bills

From what its doing now to what?

Love those cars, wish I could afford one -  There is a guy on the Wirral has a big collection of Jensons (so I have been told but not seen)

Fuel consumption is a rather horrendous 12 mpg at the moment, but a good thrashing gets it down to about 8. Hoping for 16-18 with new box.
The great irony is although we have just got it back on the road- I had decided to sell it whilst I was in France. I had already sold my 67 Mustang the week before and had decided to buy and build a Westfield Eleven with a supercharged 998 A series in it.
When I do fix it and move it on, someone is going to get one hell of a well sorted Interceptor!

Cheers Randy, much appreciated. I'm going to pull it out and apart next week- fingers crossed its not too bad but I think she ran it until it failed big time judging by the water and oll that has run down the sides of the car. She was doing a ton on the motorway when it blew.
 I will be in touch.

Dashing to her next 'life-of-riley' social engagement. It is I that rushes home to clean and cook Martin I'm afraid.

That is a Jensen Interceptor is it not?
The only ones I have seen  over here had 383 cid Dodge engines.

It's a beauty, what a shame it's broken. I used to deal with the Jensen factory in West Bromwich years ago.

Why is it that most women (present company excepted ect) have little mechanical sympathy or understanding?  :(

I'm going to refit the original 6.3lt motor I think. I don't want another car in bits all summer and the original lump is in great shape . We've only got another 10 weeks of decent weather before it once again takes its place in the barn to winter. I will rebuild the 440 and put it back in in the new year. Its still pretty quick in 6.3 form anyway.

Classic 2006.

Our ears pricked as there was a rumbling in the distance as we sat outside the tent on LM.
We expected a fine sight of american muscle cars rolling past us.
To our surprise a convoy of 7 or 8 Jensen Intercepter's came into view and went past.
A rare treat. ;D
