My Cobra - still not finished the gearbox conversion - extremely unlikely that it'll even get to the Classic
Dick's TR6 (first alternate) - engine rebuild / rebore ongoing - no update recently.

I just got the Alfa back with a brand new spanking door and front wing. It looks good but the door sounds different than the rest.

Just ordered an ABS sensor, £130 and not even sure it's available yet !! If I can't get one I'll have to go with it switched off and stay awake !!

Having just put the second head gasket in as many years (and the third over its shameful 10 year life) on mrs dee's Megane a couple of weeks ago, was it grateful? Was it hell. Last week it promptly shat its little auto transmission to pieces. It now sits in shame on the driveway, having been replaced at the weekend with a slightly less old, less used and hopefully less thirsty focus.

Damn and blast you, French manufacturers. You're all in league with Lucifer, the lot of you  >:D

Anyone want to buy a super Megane, regularly serviced, fantastic runner (as long as you don't want it to go anywhere....  >:( )  ;D

Just spent £560  :o :o :o on a power steering pump for the Veccy - old one was only 17 months old but out of warranty - £560 represents a 20% discount but I am trying for more - Vx have said no, but the SMMT seem to have taken up my case :)

Also sounding a bit clunky on rear nearside - not life threatening, but probably a shocker...

Are you ready to put a bigger cam in that Poncho ?

Now got the estimate following Saturdays episode with a motorbike and its circa £15,000 plus the VAT worth of repairs.  4 weeks to do.

I don't think its going to make it to LM !

Randy, that would bring an even bigger smile to my face than the car already does.  The Tin Indian needs the compression raising a bit too.  I'm thinking nice roller rockers / lumpy cam / about 9.5 :1 compression with some re-worked heads.

Could also be something rolling around in the untidy boot, but I don't think so...

Not yet. I'm a moderator on the forums at www.honestjohn.co.uk though, one of my fellow mods is a Vx fanatic. There's a pretty good tech section there which I would also try.

Not too worried about this problem yet anyway. Other fish to fry - still trying to argue back some of my £600 for the premature failure of power steering pump. Garage door broke last weekend, £140 parts. Have a claim in with Direct Line for a laptop which was alcohol damaged by daughter. Other daugther's Fiesta is in today for replacement rear shocks. Dislike my job, want to stop work. But wife's share options have lost over £40k of value in the last year (well, that's virtually ALL their value) = pack up work early fund blown.

Other than that, things are fine!!  ::) ::)

Will save the Veccy noises for a quieter (& cheaper) period...  8)  ;D  ::)

Ill check out honestjohn later as its blocked in work……….. I take it your daughter was on the alcohol hence its now broken? As for the fiesta how old is it? As for jobs – I took another position in my place of work as I wanted to do more work (was a quite dept where I did work) and now im literally sat doing NOTHING all day. I takes the piddle and I hate it! Frantically looking for a new job with more money as my wages are crap where I can do some work as I hate sitting here, feels like im taking the piddle but im not!!

Really bad news on the shares aswell :(

Mines just back from the garage,  quick oil and plugs, gearbox leak and a few other minor things sorted,  a decent run at the weekend will hopefully prove the old girl is fit and well for another trip to LM,  she's a '78 Aston V8 btw. ;D

Good luck with getting yours sorted Kev, time is running out!  Do you have a backup car/plan?

Well I took delivery of a new Car yesterday.    So I've only had it 24 hours and I think it's a heap of Junk.
I made the mistake of listening to the Sales man.   "Oh the New Laguna is much better than the old one." he told me.

Well I'm here to tell you it's Not

The GPS is only the UK and not Europe.
The Bluetooth for the phone doesn't seem as good though I haven't really tried that yet.
The user interface to the GPS and Phone are even Worse than the last abysmal set up.
There is no Tyre Pressure Sensors.
The handbrake is now in a very awkward Place.  But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that.

I'm sure there will be more as Time goes on.

You mean they didn't give it a valet when they did the oil change?

Just got back my 30 year old Aston (delivered) back from Oselli after it's pre LM checkover and oil and plugs and its been washed and hoovered, even the tyres shine!

Keep your chin up Kev, I'm sure it will all work out for the best!

Its the Airflow meter on the Nissan. New secondhand one in post from owners club today but she wont be goin to LM. Too much of a risk as there wont be enough time to do a full shakedown.
The supercav will be making a guest appearance!

Aw Rex. A shonky AMM (Which let's not forget, had been liberally doused in rodent piss) is no reason to lose faith in a motor.

Where would Zarse be if he let minor tech. worries change his plans.

Aired the tent today, got my seat out and sat under the canopy for a while with a smoke and a beer. Lovely and sunny, pixxing with sweat. Watched the qually for MotoGP... out for a meal and a piss up with the missus and a couple of friends tonight... just how you should spend a saturday.

I've got RAC cover which is sort of 'spare' - the car I'm travelling to LM in still has VW european assistance.

If you want to 'borrow' the membership, let mek now, and I'll PM you the relevant details.

If anyone from the RAC is reading this, I am, of course, joking.

Just fitted a new front bumper and left wing. Also just got my 17" alloys back from the painter today, so I'm almost ready. Now I'm just waiting for...I don't know what it's called in english - race springs and dampers I think, so my Focus estate no longer will be flying up mid air.

And the front and wing - a small sign and a little tree destroyed the old parts ::) Some idiot behind the wheel tried to go...too fast, in a tight corner. We'll now I know how NOT to do that again >:(

Oo-err,
It's all coming up a bit quickly. Still, only rear hub oil seals, half shaft seals, rear spring rubbers, exhaust gaskets, a couple of leaky core plugs (I have sooo much sympathy), new tyres and she'll be right!
I'm sort of hoping there's a consignment of blank MOT certificates being transported  by some trembling PO workers in a horse drawn carriage along a quiet track in the local woods, that way I'll be able to put on my best Adam Ant gear and jump out from behind a tree with my pistol cocked, singing.
And maybe some Lupins too, if I get really lucky.

Tis the crank sensor – got to take timing belt off to get the cam cover off then get in to sort it! Theres a garage 2 minutes from my work that I always get my MOT done at and as he is a Vauxhall Enthusiast he usually sorts a good cash in hand price out for me ;)

So Crank sensor and oil change will be done at the same time :)

If I wasn’t going to lemans in it next week id attempt it myself but I know with my luck ill do something wrong!

Who started this posting?

Car went into garagefor its 2nd year service, 18k - No problems.

Went to pick up and the guy said slight knocking from the front (which I reported) was the drive shaft, but it would need to go to their other garage to be looked at, but no rush. But when I told him I was going to France next week he said "oh!" and they better keep it in and get it over tomorrow.

Car should be back Thursday - all going well!

So it looks fun now, any way enough to worry about - another bloody exam on Thurs, so studying hard.

Change the belt anyway.... trust me ;D Yours has twice as many valves as the Chav and they will hit...

I do hope it's not one of the new ones or that money down the drain as you cannot repair them :'(

I am missing out on this fella's taking to many boring reliable cars this year all BMW's.Last year on the way down broke a drive shaft on the E30 M3, gear lever fell out of Mk1 escort cossie, bonnet came up on the griff at about 120mph (all entertaining in there own way). On going to Nurburg in april in my Griff did the exhaust manifold gaskets 5 days before and a clutch 2 days before, all nice and last minute (the only way to be). Le mans this year taking boring BM's so no prep (just dosent feel right) ??? ???

Nick it will be gone by morning. Then I might repost it, seeing as it's so close to LM week...  ;) He reminds me of my old chemistry teacher at school. As I recall, he was obsessed with catalysts. That, and schoolboy's bottoms.

I for one think it's great he's able to express his love of his Rangey in this way. It's a proper old fashioned perversion, committed by a proper old fashioned pervert and it seemingly hurts nobody. He's a petrolhead to boot, although I'm not sure which head is getting the petrol on it.

Tis the crank sensor – got to take timing belt off to get the cam cover off then get in to sort it!

I have to admit, I'm not really sure what a crank sensor is. I'm pretty sure I've got a crank, so how clever does a crank sensor have to be? Where's it going to go for godsake?
Now however, after seeing Nicks pic (it's not you Nick, is it?), I can see what it's all about, and they look like they're a bugger to change. I can only assume that this enterprising mechanic is attempting a sort of keyhole surgery approach, I hope he hasn't overdone the WD40.

We are taking my Isuzu double cab pick up this year. It has been no trouble for ages and then this weekend the radiator decides to spring a leak. Chucked a bottle of radweld in it and it seems to have done the trick. Anyone any idea how long radweld lasts. I am struggling to get a new radiator in time for the off so may have to take a couple of spare bottles just in case!!

glad its going ok (and I bet the bank manager loves you now aswell!!)

Rear bearings aren’t to bad and the disc’s / pads should be cheap enough (bout £50 for the lot for the astra if I remember correct from a autofactors / Halfords trade ;) )

Week to go so your doing well :)

Guy from the garage just dropped my house keys off for me and said when he changed the oil he checked out all under the car for me, re copper greased the brake pipes and wax oiled a few places to stop rust but over all its dam clean and shouldn’t give me any issues over at Lemans or Germany :)

My car (planned for LM): fine

lad #1's ankle: sprained, doesn't know if he can go - was planned to provide a racing team's motorhome which would've made our 3rd HA-pass a campsize extender
lad #2's car - not planned: broken driveshafts
lad #3's car - not planned: unknown status - 150.000km

We'll see - I like difficult tasks

It's so bad - for the injured as well as for us as we never had a motorhome before and this is a luxury motorhome. He got it from the team as they worked so hard during the Nurburgring 24h - Crash friday morning, repaired for evening qualifying to do mandatory laps. Lack of engine power and changed it during the night until 5am.
Faultless race and P3 in class - 2 weeks holiday in norway for the crew paid by the drivers and as an extra the motorhome for Le Mans

This is ridiculous - 5 days after getting the car back from the body shop for the failing handbrake, no door fiasco, which after excess, hire car and mechanical repairs came to the tidy sum of 700 notes, a deer decided to go suicidal and stepped out in front of me. It has mullered the fog lamp, and surrounding trim and destroyed the wheel arch lining, worst of all though whilst it was being thrown from under my wheels it took a chip out of the brand new door.

I'm cursed clearly.

Luckiliy the garage managed to rebuild the front corner and say I can drive around without a wheel arch lining for the time being as long as I get it sorted asap when I get back.

30 cm to the left and the deer would have been in the radiator and gone up and over. That would have made 3 windscreens in 3 years.

Thankful for small mercies.

The Astra is back all done – new camshaft sensor and a oil change! Was double labour as the part I was sent was incorrect and had to wait for the correct one to be sent today!! Good job the correct part was only half the cost of the original one so it works out in even!

Mechanic noticed the Oil Cap was broken aswell so bought a new one from Vauxhalls on the way back

Garage work - £99.89
Oil Cap - £8
Total - £107.89

Car trouble, not me, no sir.
I tell you, they give them away to anyone these days.
In fact I even had time to clean the engine bay up, sadly the MOT man wasn't impressed, and the eagle eyed amongst you might spot the one modern concession I had to make to get that piece of paper. Mind you, you'd have to be really eagle eyed.

Woohooo count me in, the car, old merc 230ce is running on 3 cilinders when cold... Tried to start it this morning but wouldn't run if I didn't keep my foot on the gas.
That combined with the broken seatbelt for the co-driver leaves me to fix this stuff just 4 days before we're going. And I've got my appartment to sort out. Great  ::)

Hi Chris

Seems pretty good to what we would pay over here, labour rate looks very good.

Mind you we do not pay VAT which would account for two hours labour.

Bollox bollox bollox.
Old cars, don't you just love em?  After 2 months of body repairs I finally got the Alfa up and running last night. With less than a week to go before its epic 1500 mile trip to the promised land she has decided to cause bother for the first time in 3 years. On the way home last night  she stopped twice when the throttle linkage fell off and on the way to work this morning the front servo failed locking the front brakes solid. I'm running out of time and patience with it!
 Drat.

So you think the Commer (as much as I love her) will be a more reliable proposition than the Alfa? You're a funny guy Zarse!    Just returned from a 80 mile blast around Northumberland chasing the bikers! No problems to report but running without the front Servo was interesting- back wheels were braking much harder causing a few hairy moments.
