Title: CA Go Kart Trophy
Post by: Gilles on July 18, 2003, 01:57:28 pm
I've got strange ideas these days and I want to share one with you...

... for those who gonna come to le Mans in November, we may go to a go kart speedway 20 kms to le Mans on saturday afternoon and have an official CA Trophy.

The owner of the speedway often organise such trophies for companies and it's not so expensive considering the quantity of fun.

Is someone interest ??

We also organise a full championship with a second race in June 2004....

Nov - practice
May - pre-qualifying
June - race

Nice idea!

... especially for you if you don't come in November, you still be qualify for june by racing in may. Do we reinvent the princip of ELMS? I hope no to not have to pay some fees to ACO  ;)

Hi Gilles & Smokie, I would like to suggest that we already have way too much going on in June.
I suggest Practice/Qualifying in November
additonal invitations to suitable participants ie: CA posters for Go Kart RACE at PQ in May
Then the winner would be able to wear the
Puke Green Jersey or other suitable disgusting apparel as the badge of honour to the Champagne Bash in June? A proper trophy of course to take home to the mrs.

Texan and English girls permitting, I shall pop down to see you in August.

I think a CA karting adventure would be great.  I think it would have to be sometime durring the week of Le Mans though.  Those trans Atlantic flights get pretty expensive.  Dave and I usaully go karting while I'm there for the race.  We missed out this year, but Lizzie and I went instead.  I got the track reccord.  You English are too slow! hehe.   :)

Sorry Chris, but too much work in June. Nearly killed me this year, only respite was the wine tastiing with FG Friday am!
Maybe a warm-up in  Nov. on the karting front, and take it from there?

An hour would be good  :)

Chris, by the look of the piccy next to your posts, can I assume you are some sort of semi professional kart racer?? Particularly in view of you job with Uncle Bobbys Skool of Making the Tires Squeal.

Should we allow pros into the race, or should Chris be the coach?

Title: Re:CA Go Kart Trophy

Probably should Chris not be eligible for rookie cup !

Title: Re:CA Go Kart Trophy

How about you let me run but don't count me.  No prizes for pros.  Maybe give me a handicap even like some extra weight.  My 130 pound frame is usally a huge advantage in an underpowered kart.  We say that 10 pounds = .5 sec on the track at Bondurants.

You know, Dave is no slouch either.  I found out this year that he raced Formula Fords with the late Senna.

So maybe if you and Dave shared one Kart we might have a chance!!  ;)

I gonna try the circuit on thursday afternoon...

... 2 tracks are available, the leisure one and the competition one.

On the leisure one you can be up to 15 at the same time.

sorry but no website, price is coming end of this week...

... gonna try to have the draw of the circuit to have your expert's eyes on it  8)

By complete co-incidence, I have today had a letter from Honda UK inviting me to enter a Karting team into a 3 hour endurance race at Daytona International on Sunday Sept 28. This is subsidised by Honda and a four person team costs £60 per head. The carts are apparently very fast, being twin engine Prokarts. There are several prizes, including a guided tour of of the BAR Honda F1 factory.

Very good value I thought, until I realised that this Daytona International is in Milton Keynes not FLA!!

Seriously tho, is anyone interested??

Hi Andy

If you're short of someone then let me know and I'll come along. I'm sure you'll get a better team by putting some lighter people into the Karts though rather than my bulky frame.  ;)

Yesterday I tried the "Challenge Grand Prix" on the little track.

For only 45 euros, you have 10 minutes of free trials, 10 minutes of time trials and a 20 minutes race.

But we can drive longer and even, if we are enough numerous, organise team race with a change of pilots. The system is you pay by kart, not by pilot.

The little track is 900m and 6m-large, the competition one a few less than 1200m and 8m-large.

Comments on the litttle track: not a lot of spots to overtake "properly"  ;), good curves, a funny bridge,..., maybe it could be enough for a first try (could be completed by a few runs on the competition one).

Now I wait for your advice and ideas and interests !

Gilles,

What is a Sodicart?

Title: Re:CA Go Kart Trophy
Post by: Gilles on July 25, 2003, 11:37:31 pm
Sodicart is the brand of the chassis, and maybe by extension the brand of the kart...

Title: Re:CA Go Kart Trophy
Post by: ChrisConsidine on July 26, 2003, 12:01:24 am
Well I think we should run the competition karts and track.  If we're going to do it, we should really go all out.  I think we should run it on the Tuesday before the race.  Most of our crowd will be there and there isn't much race stuff going on, so the Club Arnage team might be able to participate (including Dave and I).

If we could get 30 people, we could run the 1 hour race split into either four 15 min or two 30 min shifts as an enduro race.  I don't know if any of you guys have ever run a real competition kart before, but 30 min of hard running can really kick your but.  The key would be getting 30 people to fork over the 34 euros in advance to do this.  I can probably russle up about four people in the Club Arnage team.

I think I can get some Club Arnage mechandise together for prizes.   Maybe Gilles can check out some local trophy stores to get prices on some custom "Club Arnage" trophies.

To answert your question Andy, a Sodicart is a competition kart chassis manufaturure.  All race kart chassis designs are pretty much the same.

Chris the speedway also sell kart trophies, from the little kart to the giant cup. I've got also a lot of pre-owned standard cups at home, just need a sticker or an engravery to become CA cups !

I confirm that 30 minutes of kart driving is really enough...

You could make this an international CA series with a track in France and one in the UK (south cost)

Do we have any dates yet ?

Sorry Mark

No website of the track, so no pictures available of the competition track, the leisure one is here some posts up.

It's located along the RN 23 (the road between Paris and Le Mans) near to Montfort Le Gesnois. It's about 20 kms from Le Mans and it's straight from the Tertre Rouge crossing...

Where to register ? here I am !!!  ;)

(but the track is too narrow for your Lotus  :P )

Very close to the very first (1906) French GP circuit, in fact. How appropriate!!
I'll be down for a look soon.

As the Faisan Dore Auberge (the february picture of the Automobile Historique calendar), it's along the first Circuit de la Sarthe (the longest one)... and you are still able to drive along 75% of this former circuit.

I shall certainly take some piccies. Due to my extreme age and a bluggered up collar bone ( thanks to a high speed collision with a lamp post with my push bike - pissed as anything, years ago), I shall need all the practice I can get and will need younger and lighter team mates.

As Kpy has asked for team mates
I assume it's an endurance race.

What kind of karts ?

2 types of kart engines cylindres...

270 or 390 cc. (first on leisure track, last in competition track)

depending of the number it could just be a gentlemen race by individuals, or a bigger endurance team race.

All has to be defined together.

I want the 390 cc. on the competition track :)

I'll mention this around and see if I can get a few more people...

Gilles,
I've just heard of some karting on 15th of November, near Rouen : 2 stroke, 100cm3, on a circuit : 1200m long, 6m wide
2 to 4 pilots,
about 4 hours driving (3x 1h endurance races plus qualifications lap

Can the CA Karting trophy be run there (and then) ?

I'm around Rouen next week for about a week.

I'll check to see if the Karting track is open.

I'm also planning on going over to Honfluer for something to eat on Sat 27th December.

Let me know if you're interested in either or both of these events :)
