Title: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: Rusty on May 16, 2008, 07:31:07 pm Great sadness as Robert was killed in practice at the NW200 and now joins his brother Joey 8 years after his tragic death in Estonia in that great race track in the sky.
Sadder still is that he came back against all odds after an enormous crash he suffered at the Isle of Man when the rear wheel on his RC45 disintegrated at high speed. He was extremely lucky to have survived that accident at all only to be cheated this time. A truly tough man. They had a review on the radio last night - very sad. But he did live life to the full. So hope he's blasting at full throtle up there. Title: Re: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: Andy Zarse on May 16, 2008, 08:01:22 pm I saw this last night. Terrible really, it looks like his engine siezed up and pitched him directly into the path of another bike, the rider of which was left with nowhere to go.
Title: Re: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: nickliv on May 16, 2008, 10:43:08 pm Bloody dreadful.
I met him on the IOM about 11 years ago, and he showed me around his 'disabled adapted' bike. Thoroughly nice guy who loved his racing. Title: Re: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: Leftie on May 16, 2008, 10:54:56 pm Truelly tragic news.
I believe that is now three generations of that Dunlop family to suffer this fate. They will all be remembered for thier feats that thrilled us. Anybody got the video 'V4 for Victory'? It is a must see. Title: Re: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: Nobby Diesel on May 16, 2008, 11:23:27 pm I've just found out about this and was coming to CA to post about it, bur Russ has beaten me to it.
I'm floored by this. A racing dynasty is being wiped out by the very thing they love. Such a shame and a loss, all of them. Rest peacefully. Title: Re: RIP Robert Dunlop Post by: Barry on May 17, 2008, 01:16:21 am Died doing the thing he loved.
Gave pleasure to so many watching him, who would never be so brave to do what he did. R.I.P. |
