Title: MG Xpower - How many????
Post by: nopanic - neil on May 06, 2008, 09:28:31 am
Marcos last week,  this week MG's

who wants a MG Xpower.

Not one but 13 up for auction, makes you wonder where have they been, and even more -how much would they go for!!!!!!

Could not afford a Marcos, so no chance with MG Xpower - mind you not sure which I would prefer?

But the best bit is the reading the vehicle history,

You've got to wonder what the ones that had the 1000bhp kit fitted felt like though  ;D

If that ever went ahead.

Oh come on Andy, a scrap car can easily be worth over £100. Paying tuppence would be a nice earner ;D

Some interesting things on that site, including retractable seating, which I might need some of a in a year or so, but nowhere to store it in the meantime!

Well I guess  that as you have driven one you can make an informed decision on how much to pay,  but I think for the right price they could be a good basis for a Britcar racer or someother mini-enduro type racing if you had the facilities to look after and devleopme them.  Running gear is all bought in after all,  just don't prang it cos I doubt there are many panels about!

Geoff, not only have I not driven one, but I will never drive one.

I looked at them at Silverstone at an LMS race a few years ago. I recall the standard of workmanship and finish was absolutely appalling, they'd make TVRs look well made. A total lash-up in the worst tradition of the kitcar industry, it was an ugly f**k*r too. At £75,000 they cost more than 911 money, which I felt at the time was a total joke. Contemporary road tests were pretty unflattering. It seems the punters agreed and stayed away in droves, as the production figures were way way short of the ridiculously optimistic sales targets. They sold just 65 cars in three years  :-[ Laughable!

The rumoured 1000bhp versions were just with an NOS kit added to the standard 320bhp Ford V8 (as fitted to the F150 truck  ::) ) it was all a load of dick-waving by MG Rover management.

If it had been any good, I for one would have backed it to the hilt. But as it wasn't...

So they didn't even manage to sell all 60-odd car built? Some were built and put into "storage". I guess some of these unwanted cars are what's up for auction here? If you take out these, the prototypes, and the MGR company diectors cars, oh and the press cars, then just how many punters actually bought one?  :-[

I knew of a supply of 'surplus' Ford V8 engines and gearboxes floating around a year or two ago that had been previously supplied to Rover / MG for this and the MG ZT 260.

A friend on mine owned one for about a year, in he even took it to Le Mans in 2006.
