If you were patient and hung around you got in. Title: Re: Group C support race Post by: Bob U on May 12, 2008, 01:00:17 pm I am so looking forward to seeing this. I have the picture in pride of place in my lounge it willbe fantastic to see the real thing. One of the classic sportscars to make racing return. There is great news for the Group C Racing series and motorsport enthusiasts in general, with the announcement that Mercedes Sauber C9 chassis number 05A, will be competing in the 2008 Group C Racing series. The car is steeped in history with five wins during the 1989 World Sportscar Championship in the hands of drivers Jean-Louis Schlesser and Jochen Mass. Schlesser, who went on to be the '89 world champion, also recorded two fastest laps and established a racing land speed world speed record of 407Km/h at Le Mans during the same year. Appearing in its classic Mercedes-Benz "Silver Arrows" livery, the car will be driven by Australian owner/driver Rob Sherrard and prepared by race specialists Xtec Engineering. Having been restored by Sauber in 1992, the C9 moved to Switzerland when it was sold to Mr Coxx Kocher, where it remained until Rob purchased the car in March 2008. Rob said: "This is an awesome racing car with unrivalled pedigree and to be able to race it in the series this year is just fantastic, particularly as we have the attraction of the race at Le Mans. I can't wait to actually get behind the wheel and drive it in anger." It's got a similar 3 rotor wankel to the 787. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_757 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_757) Title: Re: Group C support race Post by: Kev_mk3 on May 13, 2008, 05:41:55 pm No Mazda 787 :( they where bloody noisy things ::)To bad, I would have loved to hear that wankel engine. Made some pics as well and two short movies, they can be found on drinkingforholland.com.
Here is the link: http://gallery.drinkingforholland.com/main.php/v/Divers/RMU+Classic+Spa+2008/ (http://gallery.drinkingforholland.com/main.php/v/Divers/RMU+Classic+Spa+2008/) The movies do not have a thumbnail, just click on "geen miniatuur", then on the next page on download film. The first film has the sound of the mazda, it is the last car that comes by. Second film is the start of the vintage F1 race Title: Re: Group C support race Post by: Ade on May 19, 2008, 11:30:58 am I had the exact same feeling yesterday when it came by on the Spa straight before eau rouge.
