Title: didgytel camera
Post by: nickliv on March 11, 2008, 05:26:11 pm
Similar to Kev's post.

It's my birthday soon, and I can 'lose' about £400 of money, and I'd like to lose it in a camera shop.

I wants the camera for:

Taking photographs of most things - landscapes, misbehaving children, drunken relatives, racing cars, pretty flowers and the dog.

I'm leaning towards a 400D with a 300 mm telephoto lens, but should I be leaning anywhere else.

It'll be my first SLR, and if the shots is good, they'll be blown up and  used to adorn the walls of the garage.

Ta.

Both the canon 400 d and the equivalent Nikon are excellent cameras, in the end it's a question of personnel preference. I went for the canon, just prefered it, with an additional 70-300mm Sigma lense. I think Canon are still offering a £50 cash back on the 400 d with their 15-55 mm lense. With the arrival of the 450d camera in April, the 400d should come down in price as well.

www.mymemory.co.uk offer very good discounts on SD cards, in particular Scan disk are very good value when compared to the high street and other tinternet suppliers

You can go new & they do great cashback deals OR you can go for a refurb like me which has a warranty with canon :)

mine was from digital river via a ebay shop

400D collected from the heroically inept couriers today - went with Canon as I can borrow lenses from colleagues and a few mates round here until I get round to persuading someone that I need another lens for the camera.

From the same place as Kev. £296 with the 18 - 55 lens.

Third and fourth pictures I took with it - still in the car on the way home.

I appreciate that there are undesirable things on this pic, but it was 'king cold. At least I wound the window down. :D

Is the eBay shop called Digital Rev or Digital River, and was your camera a refurb?

That's the bunny. 400Ds with 18-55 going for just shy of £300. Which conveniently leaves me a shiny ton for a tripod and bag.

I was lucky and the Tripod I got off my mum as she found it in the cupboard and camera bag I bought off Jules on here :D

Welcome to the Canon club ;D

Nickliv, try a monopost rather than a tripod, I have a nice manfroto monopost, light weight and doubles up a a walking/keep me up stick, approx 25quid from www.mymemory.co.uk. low pro bags are good, Kev will confirm (hows the bag Kev? ;D)

As Jules said Lowpro bags are great, the one I purchased off Jules is spot on and has everything I need. Holds the camera and my spare battery :)

It's been white for ages, but at least it isn't a white out today.
