Title: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Doris on February 15, 2008, 01:41:45 am All,
Right then, as we’re sticking with the 2 permanent and 1 alternating charity format we need your nominations for this year’s third charity. In case you need reminding the 2 permanent charities are the Association for International Cancer Research, and the Motorsport Safety Fund. I am very aware that a Dutch Leukaemia charity will be on the list that is put to the final vote. Please can just one person mention it to make it official? I don't need every one of you to mention it. Save it for the poll when I set it up. :police: :-* Dx Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Paddy_NL on February 15, 2008, 01:57:25 am I would very much agree with the leukaemia fund, Dutch would be an honour.

Well done Paddy. Seconded. SURELY, WE DON'T NEED ANY OTHER NOMINATIONS, DO WE? Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Andy on February 15, 2008, 11:10:07 am Good choices for both the nominations for 3rd charities, I would be tyied to a split decision due to family sufferings, nice one peter!
Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Petra on February 15, 2008, 12:50:18 pm May I be the party pooper here? With the Association for International Cancer Research already being a fixed charity, receiving money in the past as well as the next years to come, I would much rather see a non-cancer charity to take the third slot. I understand research into leukaemia and myeloma is a very important issue to some people overhere because of Fret (LT's wife) and Ferrari Spider, but research into those types of cancer is already covered with the AICR. Wich is the main reason also for me not to nominate Pink Ribbon for the third charity.
Last year there was talk going round at the DfH camp about the charities involved. Because the auction was held at DfH's friday party some people thought a Dutch charity would have been nice. And since DfH has special interest in Racing for Holland (although sadly they won't be at LM this year) supporting a charity affiliated with RfH makes sense. Therefore, I nominate the Johan Cruyff Foundation. (http://www.cruyff-foundation.org/default.asp?taal=en) Quote from: cruyff foundation website The Johan Cruyff Foundation supports sports and play for children worldwide. Special attention is being paid to children with a handicap. Children have the right to sport and recreation, as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We believe that through sports children built up social skills, learn how to win and lose, how to develop tactics and strategy. As a result children develop self-confidence and a sense of achievement. But mainly..sports can be plain fun! Also a good nomination! Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Werner on February 15, 2008, 01:15:33 pm Interesting thought and more variety
Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Steve Pyro on February 15, 2008, 01:16:14 pm With a connection to motor racing, I suggest the Richard Burns Foundation http://www.richardburnsfoundation.com/ (http://www.richardburnsfoundation.com/)
" ... the Foundation strives to “inspire and support people with serious injury and illness." "The Richard Burns Foundation aims to assist in the support and care of those who are suffering from life threatening or serious illness or injuries. The RBF also incorporates the Michael Park Fund set up to help people and also support their families, who have suffered serious or life threatening injuries, particularly those suffered in motor sport, whilst also promoting and aiding research into these causes and their prevention." Now my feelings are really split. All very worthy causes. Hmmm. Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: termietermite on February 16, 2008, 10:55:18 am Werner asked a couple of weeks ago about the charity for the Guide money. The Dutch leukemia charity was suggested for the guide proceeds. My own thoughts would much depend upon whether the guide is seperate or not. If it is, then I think the Richard Burns foundation would be great for Doris's third charity, and the Dutch one for the guide. I agree that although of course the cancer charities are worthy, it would be great to go for something a little different.
Just my two pennies' worth. Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Werner on February 16, 2008, 04:50:43 pm Another option to solve this: A poll, in which the winner will be our (3rd) charity for 2008, 2nd place will then be our charity for 2009, 3rd place will be our charity for 2010.
Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Doris on February 17, 2008, 10:10:54 am Can I just remind everyone how the CA Charity Fund works (as decided by all members who voted at the time of inception). We have two permanent charities and one that changes each year. It was also decided that whatever funds were raised from the donations given for the guide along with any monies raised at the auction DfH hold would go into the fund and be split equally (unless someone requested their auction money went specifically to one of the three charities chosen).
What I am trying to do in this thread is get people's nominations together so I can set up a pole that everyone can vote on to decide this year's 3rd charity. I want this to be ready in time for Knetter and I to get letters sent to teams before we head to Sebring so we can have maximum exposure of what we are doing, in order to - hopefully - get more contributions from the teams that attend both LM and the ALMS. ... would be great for Doris's third charity, ... I would also like to remind everybody that the CA Charity Fund is exactly that. It is not Doris's. As Head of Charity (a title I didn't choose by the way) I have the job of looking after the administration of the fund, ensuring we get as much coverage as possible and making sure the money goes to the right place. So, before I set up a poll for everyone to vote on this year's 3rd charity does anyone else have any further charities they would like me to include? Dx Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: termietermite on February 17, 2008, 11:12:54 am Thanks, Doris, for clearing that up. I was confused because Werner had already asked about the charity on the Guide thread last week.
Anyway, my vote is that the Richard Burns foundation should go on the nominations list with the Dutch Leukemia charity. Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on February 17, 2008, 01:35:07 pm Dutch Leukemia charity would be my choice also.
Thanks. Brian Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: Snoring Rhino on February 17, 2008, 10:18:25 pm I think that to help Doris with her administration there should be a cut off date set for the nominations of charities, there are many worthy causes but we do need to make a decison on the third.
As Doris says she cant make that decision, and it will be only for this year on the Third charity, next year it could remain the same or another could be relevant - it depends on next years vote. So lets put the nominations forward and then have the poll to see which comes out favourite and go with that this year. I know where my vote will go and its already been nominated. Although without a cut off date set, Doris has already pointed out that your proposal is pretty much what's about to happen. And because she wants to get things done before leaving for Sebring I think the poll will come anytime soon. Perhaps a good idea for next year: start the nominations thread with a set date for the nominations to end and the poll to begin :) Title: Re: This Year's Charities - Question Number Two Post by: knetter on February 18, 2008, 01:33:37 pm What Doris and I are planning to do is write the teams competing at Sebring as soon as the list of entries is known. So that would be in about 10 days. She will probably open a poll very soon. So watch the forum closely!
