Title: Track Day - Any Interest?
Post by: Ruptured Duck Motorsport on June 30, 2003, 03:00:58 pm
I am thinking of organising a track day, and I am looking at about £30-£40 for two sessions (10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm) including a buffet lunch?

The circuit is about 800m-1km in length, in Somerset, right next to the A303 (no, not Thruxton!), and at the Haynes Motor Museum. There are a variety of layouts, and it would be individual timed runs rather than several on track at the same time, minimising accident risk.

Numbers will be kept low to ensure everyone gets enough track time.

I may be able to work some sort of deal whereby you would have access to the museum too if that would be of interest?  Well worth the visit...!

Nothing is booked yet, but I want to gauge interest, and depending on interest I was thinking of first week or two in Spetember on a Sunday or Saturday?

I'd be interested too.. just to see Wishywashyman take The Shed around, all burning remoulds and bits of fibreglass falling off ;D

Seriously though, the Scoob needs a little workout from time to time so yes please. Museum also.

Do you know if there would be a requirement for helmets to be worn? Also what about being able to take passengers around?

Look forward to more info.

BTW Wishy - We're definitely up for Gurston on 20th.

Helmets are a definate.

Passenger, yes, but only one, and they too must be helmeted up too.

Response has been great in total (the Dreamracers mailing list and forum got a post too), and it looks good for at least one day - full details to follow!

After careful thought.I dont tink the shed would make the first corner ....remoulds and flapping fibreglass in the wind.

Is ther sapce for just spectators as I would'nt mind seeing pretzel make a fool of himself.........mind you he does'nt need atrack days for that.

For me it would be entrance to the museum and spectating.

Wishy

I wouldn't mind spectating aswell. I don't think you really want to see a 3ton motorhome trying to break the track record and besides I dont really want the underside to be lit up by sunlight after going round the first bend a little bit to quick. ;D

Post by: Ruptured Duck Motorsport on July 02, 2003, 11:52:06 pm
Yeah, spectating is allowed - £5 inc lunch and then you get entry to the museum at group rate of £5, or just turn up, have a look thru the fench with others and pay normal entry to the museum - well worth it anyway if you havent been!

Hi Dreamracers,

Tried to contact you a couple of times off forum via e-mail but to no avail. Maybe a problem with my system :( or have you been on holiday?

Anyway, I have the package you sent to me for this event but have not been able commit until now. I am still keen. Is it too late to book?

I have a friend who hillclimbs a Westfield who has expressed an interest in using the Haynes Museum track for testing. As his is a competition car I guess it is not eligible for the day you have already organised.

Is there a contact you can advise that he could get in touch with regarding this or for his owners club to organise days there?

Pete B.

Yeah, they do hire out for individual testing as well as track days.

If his Westy is road legal he is welcome - there is another one gonna be there.

He should contact Simon Stickland on 01963 440804 and say Mark Alley sent ya!

Thanks Mark,

I don't think the Westy is road legal as it has all sorts of wings/diffusers etc. but I could be wrong. If it is then I've no doubt you'll be hearing from min soon. I'll also pass the info on re: testing etc.

See you 7th Sept.

Got a mate with Will Gallops old 6R4, asked him if he wanted to bring that, as I thought it would be a laugh, but then we remembered about the noise limit.

Aparently with the exhaust repacked, at tickover in the cab it is 110db  :o

Needless to say, that wont be running!

Have sent copy of your info to my mate with the Westfield. Hopefully he will contact you directly via e-mail to confirm eligibility or otherwise of his hillclimb beast.

Like your mates 6R4 the noise limit is probably the deciding factor.

Would like to have seen the 6R4 though. I have fond memories of cold dark days at Brands watching the rallycross. On one particular event as a guest of Gollops team, courtesy of Loctite if I remember correctly. (Working in enginering has it's advantages occasionally :))

On that occasion it was so foggy you couldn't see the nose in front of your face, let alone say Druids hairpin from the braking point required. Still they raced on  :o Totally MAD.

"Will Gallops Old 6R4" sounds pretty nasty to me. I'll have to do a bit of research on that one, although I suspect it's tropical, so the symptoms aren't going to be good. And the prognosis is bound to be grisly.

Mark, my mate says his Westy is about as far from road legal as it is possible to get, and I can well believe it having seen him compete recently.

He is going to contact Simon regarding testing and track days for his club.

Many thanks for your help in this.

Pretzel.

Hmmm.  This sounds like it could be a rather pungent brew that could do a serious number on a case of Grimbergen.  Perhaps an "unlucky dip" in the coolbox of fortune.

Hi Mark

I will be coming down as a spectator with my son.

Do you want us to pre book spectators passes? .......or  do we just turn up on the day and pay for the entry to the museum and the track??

Wishy

Track you can see from the car park, the only thing you will need to pay for is the lunch & entry to museum at reduced rate

Feel free to pay in advance, it makes it easier for me to book - need numbers for the lunch...

Hey Mark,

W had a good time too. It was also good to give a couple of kids a bit of a ride around - they certainly seemed to revel in it.

Wishywashyman has also learnt a thing or two about what a 4WD car feels like when hunting for grip.

Got some digital photos, if they are any good I will post them here.

Let us know when you plan another.

Just off now to research some brake upgrades.........  ;)

Pete B.

Cool, cant wait to see the pics!

We are looking into a "track car" and not sure how much ragging the Sud will take - well more than Sean's Westfield anyway  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to apologise to Mark for thrashing both his Alfa's on that track!!

Have to admit that the museum was worth the trip on its own!!

I just felt a bit sorry for the poor guy who had problems with his Westfield/Seven kit car. Just how many things can go wrong in one day ??? I hope his journey back with the car and trailer was somewhat more uneventful...

Hey Skodie!  Fancy seeing you here.... ;D

Sean made it back OK with the yellow disaster zone.  He should have bought a car that was ready made  ::) ;)

I am already looking into another date for the next track day, will have more news by the end of the week

Hi Mark

What a fantastic day.Olly and I enjoyed the rides with Pretzel.

However I am sorely tempted to have a go in either "Shed Mk1 or Shed Mk2" next time, although not a quick as the scooby it should roll well into the corners. ;D

Just let us know when the next one is on and I'll be there.

And again.....thanks for the hospitality.....on the dat and Haynes Motor Museum is brill......!!
