However, the sign on the next lampost proclaims...."Road closed on Sunday, until 1.00 PM for Half Marathon"

Marvellous.

I'm going to finish porting the new head for the Alfa and get it down to the machine shop for new seats on saturday before raising a glass or too to our French chums on the evening. Sunday will hopefully be a day of rest for once in preparation for our new arrival on Monday- it will be the last chance for a decent nights kip for a few months I fear.

Im off to the Newby Hall Classic car show near Ripon.  Its a great event with lots of cars entered:

There will be not many places this summer with 1500 cars to see of such quality and variety including for example 38 Alvises,106 MG 22 Astons,9 Bristols 40 Stags 47 Daimler Lanchester, 15 XK etc etc plus loads in the concours, a round of the autoglym concours championship and an autojumble so that I can add to the junk in my garage.

The Garage door opens... Light slowly dawns over the highly polished paint work.
Carefully pushed onto the driveway, it sits gleaming in the sun.
A quick check of fluids - oil, water, fuel.
Tyres cheked.
Ignition, starts starts first time....
Gently release the clutch and let it pull away smootly.

Ahhh the smell of frshly cut grass !!

My weekend starts tonight with going to an artsy fartsy thing at the theatre that goes on (and on and on) for THREE HOURS!!!

It includes scenes of disembowling a motor vehicle, staring at an old man staring at us, dancing curtains, a giant mirror, shouting at the orchestra (yes - audience participation :) !) , naked women urinating on stage and a full size live highland cattle bull !

(There have been some Health and Safety issues with the bull and I am rather hoping his contract will have been cancelled by tonight.. I am not sure if row H of the stalls is far enough from the stage!)

I cant help thinking that my weekend can only get better after tonight.....   ::)

F

P.S.  We have a little Bastille Day celebration tomorrow in the local park too!

My weekend is planned as follows.

Up at 6 am for a drive down to Banbury. Meeting up with the Hancox family to deliver to them the "Debbie Hancox Memorial Trophy" which i have been constructing for them for the past six months.

Then off to Prodrive about a mile up the road for the Charity Open day.

Then a visit to Grand Prix Models show room in Banbury where i will no doubt part with some cash.

Then its off to Brafield in Northampton for the saturday night stock car meeting. Getting drunk and having a BBQ afterwards and sleeping in the car.

Sunday, working the hang over off and then another days racing at Northampton.

So quite a full weekend for me.

I'm leaving the country, fed up with getting wet.

Off to Canada - States - Canada, back in 3 weeks time.

Packed the CA flag and the DFH t-shirts. - That will confuse them over there.

Going to have a go at driving a 29ft motorhome, with twin slide outs.

Now all I have to remember is to not drive with the Slides out in the out postion
and as they say in Italian Job

Michael Cane " Just rememeber, in this country they drive on the wrong side off the road"  ;D

Cheers all, have a cold one for each one of you (well I have a go)

Neil,

Enjoy your 'vacation' at the yanks say.

Besides winding in the windouts prior to leaving. Just remember to empty the 'holding tank' through that really smelly hose.  Suggest wear mask and gloves.

But enjoy the experience.

Aston  Martin protoytpe DP215/1

built for the  24 Hours le Mans 1963 driven by P.Hill/Bianchi  car n°18

Retired in the early part of the third hour from transaxle failure. It had briefly led and then settled into second for some time

We are forecast sunshine on Saturday afternoon in Manchester (depending on which website I look at), so might go for a bike ride and Saturday evening going to a Bollywood dance "thingy" in the local park (entrance fee £1 so I am expecting quality entertainment) by which time it will no doubt be lashing down again.   ::)

Bliss!
Saturday - trying to control flatulence to levels acceptable to Mrs Lord Steve.

Sometimes I think we are lucky living on an Island (Guernsey) as the water drains off, we have missed the deluge that a lot of you guys are facing, the closest real bad weather is Portsmouth, I think.

Mind you we do get windswept and batterd by waves at times if on a coast road. We don't get much snow either.

Try and stay dry and think happy thoughts, LM08.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

in my thankfully dry garage this weekend Humber fettling (well replacing a blown reversing light and going for a cruise really) in preperation for Monday MOT althoughthe MOT garage just phoned up saying they are underwater and may not be able to do it monday. Yikes that cuts down my failure and repair time somewhat to 1 day rather than 2, so lets hope the golden arrow pases 1st time.

Quiet here tonite, so everyone must be doin' what they said they were hoping to do.

Been out for a lovely indian (meal that is).

Sunday I have a choice, Work in garden, get pi**ed at sailing club or wash the old Sixfire and go to Horndean Classic.

If it raining it has to be #2, if really hot it's #3, mediocre then #1. But my judgement is not very good so could be element (short visit) #2 and then #3.

Decisions, decisions, decisions!  sh1t happens.

Just got back (early) from a trip in the caravan.  Guess where we went??  Shropshire!!

I have never in my life seen rain like it - constant heavy rain for 18 hours, and we were marooned - most of the roads around us were under several feet of water.  Fortunately, only a small part of the site was actually flooded, but the ground was totally waterlogged, and soon became a sea of mud.  As we have two big dogs, everything in the 'van was soon covered in mud.  On top of that, the beer in the pub was shite!!

Things started to dry out a bit today (sunday), and some of the roads were passable, we decided to  pack up and come home.  Even then there were parts of the A49 still flooded, and some roads still closed. Probably take most of tomorrow to wash everything down.

Del
