Title: Newbies experiences
Post by: Mezza on June 20, 2007, 09:12:47 pm
There's been quite a lot of discussion between old members as to  what they liked as disliked...what about newbies? How many of you actually made it there and what did you think of it???

It was my first Le Mans as it was for my friend who joined me, but after great time we had, I know for sure that it is not going to our last one. We were welcomed and hosted by Red Dragon team and we had brilliant time. Not only were we introduced to general "mood" of this race and camping, these guys were talking through the times they've been there, took us around and explained the history. Which is a great thing for a newbie...so you would really know what you're getting into. We also had a nice day at Le Mans Classics...all again thanks to Red Dragon team...we would never had made it there ourselves...

We joined in their annual bottle-wall building and I do have to say it did look brilliant...kind of reminded me an altar...might have been the cross on top of this wall....remind me again...weren't French catholic??? So Jerry...it might happen that the bottle wall will be still there when we gonna get back next year...no religious Frenchman will break that  ;D

As to race...I did expect race in the rain to be slightly more interesting...but safety car after safety car...I guess it did it's job. But even leaving that out, it was great to be there and see those cars race in real. Many of you might have forgotten how it's been to be a newbie in event like that...but I can assure you, seeing those cars first time not from TV...beats everything.

And as to fun around the campsite..DfH event was fabulous....memorable but hard to remember. We joined general relaxed drinking session and like said before...managed to build nice altar for beer-god.

So...we definetely enjoyed our first visit to Le Mans and know that we will be back. It is a bit sad to hear all things that went wrong with so many people...and the stories as how the spirit of Le Mans is losing it's sparke...but what I saw makes me think that there is still quite alot left :)

Merilin,

It was an absolute pleasure to have you and Marju join us. Looking forward to next time.

We'll get you some real Red Dragon shirts next time, the same as I wore to the DfH party.

Jerry

[/Edit]  Plus looking forward to a real Estonian feast the next time [/Edit]

Hi Si,

Not sure whose it is, but logically it should be Merilin's or Marju's as us blokes either dont have one or it isn't a compact one!

Clementolia - Mezza, a name change! you are confusing me.

This year was my 2nd Le Mans, it actually feels like the first 'real' Le Mans.

Last year I arrived quite late at friday, I inmediately joined the party, en then their was the race and that was my Le Mans. This year I was there from sun to sun, and this was much more like it! I'll never go to Le Mans for just a weekend again

Del,

We arrived on the Monday sunburnt as the hood was down.
Most days were great sunshine with the odd shower. but at 30mph it just cooled you off.

I'll post pics of La Chartre with hood down and about to piss down when I receive them.

Jerry

ps. The worst 'burn' was my leg when refuelling when it touched the exhaust. BOY did the air turn BLUE!!!
