Title: Canadian GP
Post by: jpchenet on June 10, 2007, 08:04:19 pm
Anyone watching?

I've just flicked it on to see how Hamilton is doing and no sign of Alonso and both the Ferraris are down the list.

Have I missed a major incident(s) or anything of interest.

Alonso messed up at the start and seems to be having trouble with turn 1, Big accident for Kubica in the BMW - awaiting news of his condition.

Hiya

Yes I'm watching - hideous crash but apparently Kubica is 'stable'

Q. when the second safety car came out ater that crash it looked like a Honda of some sort not the usual Merc AMG - am I having another blond moment? Did anybody notice that?

As far as I am concerned this race sums up perfectly why F1 is so dull. Four blooming safety cars. Most of the race has been a procession.

Well its slightly better than Songs of Praise, if you put it on the 'surround sound' thingy then its kinda cool and gets you in the mood (for Le Mans I mean... ;)) and I tend to iron an awful lot quicker when watching a GP ;D

See - its all good really

Many congratulations to Lewis Hamilton in what must have been a very frustrating race for him (well apart from the fact that he lead it all the way)

Did you hear the excitement of the team boss congratulating him on the radio? Obviously struggling to calm himself down. Not.

Yeah, sounded like he was reading out the shopping list!

Well It might not have been what you would call a good race.  But I think you have to take your hat off to Hamilton.

He's been on the podium in every race this year.  It's his first year.

I think that does deserve some credit.

Well done Lewis.

Fair play to the lad, well done Lewis, Alonso crumbled.  Looks like we'll have a Brit champ this year.

Yes, credit to Hamilton - even with so many safety cars eating out his lead every time he dominated the race. Thoughts to Kubritza to - aparently he has a broken leg so that shoud see him out for most of the remaining season, shame, but a testiment to the car designers and how strong and safe they make them now.

Seconded.   It was a big moment.   I must say when I saw it happening I was more worried about what you could see of him.  His Helmet  that is.
I just hate to see cars go over like that.    If you know what I mean.

Kubica just has a sprained ankle and mild concussion in the end.

But can't see him at Indy next week. Pity.

As good as Hamilton is, I just wish the 'observers' of F1 would stop making comparisons with him and some of the past greats.

It seems that everyone has forgotten the fact this chap has been 'coached' for the last ten years. Clearly the chap has the raw skill, but would other rookies be in a similar points position had they been given the support he has over the years.

I'm not knocking him, but his path to F1 is somewhat different to what others around him have had to do.

Finally, good result for Wurz and Williams, even if some of it was down to the misfortune of others.

You are overlooking the fact that we have to compare Hamilton, not just with other rookies, but with every other driver in F1 including his team-mate. Can any driver with "the raw skill" and "coaching" tip up in his first season in F1, even in a competitive car, and maintain the performance that Hamilton has displayed? I think not.

I guess what I am saying is that the media hype is taking more column inches this season than in previous years, and that I wish they would just let his racing do the talking without all the bigging up taking place in the commentary.

Some might say that it is good that the papers now have considerable inches devoted to motorsport, but we all know that once he trips, no matter how small, they will drop him and the 'new found' interest shown in the sport.

I assume this is the face of F1 now, more about the publicity and just a bonus if any talent or racing should accidentally happen at the same time.

You're telling me, my local free rag that drops through the door has been having LM news the last few weeks as McNish used to live somewhere not too far from the 'ham many years ago. All very spurious but its always nice to see some LM coverage in the local.

Can't comment about LM coverage, as I never see any other than on the web or specialist press.

But with F1 the daily rags are only interested when they can create some sort of hype or celebrity sensationalism. They don't write, or comment, about it for the sport or the regular fans, and they certainly don't report it as 'news'.

For me its just another example of money grabbing off someone else's skills and they don't actually report on the race events. (but some will argue that is because there is fairly little race content in current F1).
