Title: Dilemma Post by: Lord Steve on June 07, 2007, 06:28:05 pm A customer of mine turned up at my office today for a meeting. He normally bombs about the country in a Bentley Continental GT but today turned up in a DB9.
"Let's have a butchers at the new motor then" says I. "Take it for a spin" says he. He proceeds to hand me the keys and says that he'll make himself a cuppa while I have a pootle about the area. 20 minutes later I came back with the biggest grin I've had in years. Awesome! When I asked him about the Bentley he told me that he's keeping it for a weekend car!!!!!! Jokingly I said - "any chance of borrowing it for Le Mans?" He said yes - he bloody said yes. Shall I???????????? Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Steve Pyro on June 07, 2007, 06:36:27 pm You have to ask? I'd say yes, just make sure you have adequate insurance and breakdown cover and you're laughing.
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: dukla on June 07, 2007, 06:38:57 pm Surely you've been conned. If the Bentley is the weekend car then the DB9 should be available for Le Mans?
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: nickliv on June 07, 2007, 06:46:39 pm That's not a dilemma.
A dilemma is a situation where you don't know what to do ;D Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: nopanic - neil on June 07, 2007, 06:47:10 pm I'd say .........................................................................................

Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Fran on June 08, 2007, 12:39:46 pm Just worked it out - extra £300 in petrol money. Oh bugger it! Still cheaper than actually OWNING one for a few days!!!! Maybe you could 'sell' rides down the Mulsanne........ (I'd give ya 50 cents) .... :D F Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lord Steve on June 08, 2007, 01:10:52 pm Now there's a thought Fran although the insurance company might have something to say about offering rides "for reward". Mind you, I don't think 50 cents counts as a reward cheapskate!!!!!
Steve Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: termietermite on June 08, 2007, 01:12:27 pm I don't think it will be at all safe at the circuit - my driveway is a much better option.
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lord Steve on June 08, 2007, 01:13:11 pm You're on!
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lorry on June 08, 2007, 01:24:54 pm ................Maybe you could 'sell' rides down the Mulsanne........ And will he still be a client if you come back with a wing hanging off?
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: termietermite on June 08, 2007, 01:30:23 pm And you've got to do the Cavalcade now, of course! :police:
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lawnmower Man on June 08, 2007, 01:44:28 pm Just worked it out - extra £300 in petrol money. Oh bugger it! You could easily recoop that by raffleing it of at the DfH do. If you went about it the right way I reckon you do get at least £900 that would be £300 for Petrol, £300 for Charity and the other you could give to the client. Thus everyones a winner. ;D ;D Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lord Steve on June 08, 2007, 02:00:20 pm Not to put too much of a dampener on things but how good a client is he? And will he still be a client if you come back with a wing hanging off? Well, as clients go he's worth circa £23m. What's a Bentley wing amongst friends? Taking it back with a few scuff marks is one thing - not taking it back at all may raise a few client / supplier issues!!!!! Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: LangTall on June 08, 2007, 02:19:16 pm My guess is he means raffling it for rounds around Steve. ;D
Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Lord Steve on June 08, 2007, 02:25:11 pm That's OK then - means I'll have to stay sober though! Unlikely I have to say, especially if you are favourable towards granting me a wristband for the DfH friday party..........

Take it home of course. ;D ;D You do need to make the deal attractive to the Punters. A bit of smooth talking and 300 notes should keep things running quite smothly. 8) t. Title: Re: Dilemma Post by: Dave H on June 08, 2007, 06:11:50 pm Lord Steve - nice one.
I looked at some exotic rentals to pick-up in Paris for 4 days. The cheapest GT was about 3 1/2 K (Euros) per day with a 75K deductible, so your 3 hundo in gas money looks quite nice about now. Is he a good enough friend/customer that if the unthinkable happens, he'll still be either???? Looking forward to your post-trip write-up and pics, of course! |
