Has Coulthard crashed/broken down yet? F P.S. LOVE the Iveco/All Blacks advert - tho you probably wont see that in NL. :-\ Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Fran on May 27, 2007, 03:08:12 pm I am cheering for Hamilton and Spyker :D Just had a thought... dont you have to give a bit of support to Toyota for the sake of Martijn DfH? :-X F Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Chris24 on May 27, 2007, 04:43:24 pm Said it all about GP racing today, when James Allen said, "Thats all the pit stops completed, so this looks like the finishing order unless anyone dares a passing manuever. " Thats with over 20 laps left . GP's that boring that there aren't any changes for position on the track anymore.
Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: termietermite on May 27, 2007, 04:47:59 pm Yawn-o-rama race; good result. It keeps peeing with rain here, why not Monaco? - would have cheered the thing up a bit.
Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Fran on May 27, 2007, 04:54:37 pm Yep - Dullsville indeed. Esp since (we are told) Alonson and Hamilton werent even trying from lap 10 onwards cos the team knew they had won!!!!

Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Jem on May 27, 2007, 08:44:37 pm I've been saying for years that Monaco should be hoisted off the GP calendar. Whats the point of holding a race on a track where you cannot overtake.
Just been watching Indy 500 and saw lots of overtaking, not that I'm advocating that driving around in circles constitutes skillful driving. I reckon you could strap a chimp in an Indy 500 car and he'd have a chance ( .....and now I await the reposte from our American cousins !!!!) I was doing some contract work at Mclaren earlier this year and did some work on the making of the chassis. In the past i have worked on one Le Mans winner and two Indy winners. So can claim to have won the the big three races. Do i get a cigar.

Whats the point of holding a race on a track where you cannot overtake. Have a chance at what ? Crashing it, yes the chimp would have a good chance at that !Just been watching Indy 500 and saw lots of overtaking, not that I'm advocating that driving around in circles constitutes skillful driving. I reckon you could strap a chimp in an Indy 500 car and he'd have a chance ( .....and now I await the reposte from our American cousins !!!!) Jem Driving it fast however takes skill. Indy is the toughest track to drive as all four corners are different to drive even if they look the same. The grove is real narrow and you have to hit your marks at over 230 mph, get off line by inches and you are a passenger and going into the wall. All this changes during the race and the track drives differently depending on abient temperatures and wind speed and direction. So ask Dario or Dan if driving at Indy involves skill, or go and call them chimps, and see how they respond. Tee hee. Jem Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: oldtimer on May 29, 2007, 10:11:07 am I've been saying for years that Monaco should be hoisted off the GP calendar. Whats the point of holding a race on a track where you cannot overtake. If you take that attitude there will be no GP racing left at all... You could be onto something ;) Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: oldtimer on May 29, 2007, 10:15:28 am all four corners are different All four!? - must be tricky ;D Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Radar on May 29, 2007, 04:29:11 pm Even the straights are a bit tricky, by the look of it:

Jeez I don't know how these guys do it. It is amazing. ;D
Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: oldtimer on May 29, 2007, 05:04:48 pm But don't forget the straights drive differently as the race progresses...
Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: monkey on May 29, 2007, 05:10:45 pm But don't forget the straights drive differently as the race progresses... It’s all too much!! I had forgotten that would happen as the race progressed. Like I say amazing. Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: Fran on May 29, 2007, 05:18:37 pm four tricky corners, and then on top of that there are what, two straights Surely if there are 4 corners there must be 4 straights (on the basis there arent any proper wiggly bits) - the basic rules of trigonometry demand that. But maybe I am mistaken..... ??? F Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: oldtimer on May 29, 2007, 05:20:25 pm You would think so... But actually it is more like two corners and two straights isn't it. A couple of 180 degree turns and two straights

A couple of 180 degree turns and two straights Ahhh - so the "all four corners are different" was overstating it somewhat - its becoming clearer!!! 8) Hmm just checked aerial photo of the Indy "oval" and its deffo 4 corners/4 straights (2 long 2 short) and more of a rectangle than an oval....its almost getting intriguing...but not quite Edit: Not sure if it will work, but link to aerial photo - http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/imsmap.htm#IMS Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: oldtimer on May 29, 2007, 05:30:09 pm That seems to be the bone of contention.
They may look the same but are different apparently, but without a straight bit between them I still contest there must be two and not four corners. Title: Re: Today's Monaco GP - Review Thread Post by: chop456 on May 29, 2007, 05:49:29 pm So ask Dario or Dan if driving at Indy involves skill, or go and call them chimps, and see how they respond. I suspect Wheldon would hit me with his purse. Montoya said his grandmother could drive an IRL car. With the telemetry showing 100% throttle all the way around, it appears he wasn't exaggerating all that much. Pity. I remember when it really was a test of skill and you couldn't get a ticket if you tried. They just love to show off don't they, why couldnt they just stick to something nice and simple.
