I don't know but I can probably check in a couple of weeks. Whatever, once the first couple of hours have gone by, you'll have more space and will find you can move about the grandstand anyway.

if you can that would be good,
choose pits stand because its better for the behind scenes pics,& also not far to find shelter aft a poo bar visit!!!!

Hmmmmm......Not so sure about that Dave - you can get a bird's-eye view by craning over the front balcony (no smoking there don't forget!!), but sitting in the seats you can't even see the pits.  Also the steps by the seats are very steep - almost broke my neck there last year after the 'poo bar. And there is very little to see out back - the entrance to the pit stands is via those big overhead walkways over the paddock - not through the paddock.

For future reference, any other grandstand seat will give you access to the pit stands after 6.00 pm (probably after 5.00pm this year - 2 hours after the start of the race).

It does have the advantage though, if you are high up, of giving you some good shots of the cars on the straight as they tend to run across the opposite side of the circuit.  From the ACO stand it's pretty tough to photograph over the catch fencing unless they're overtaking.

Hi,

Have to say I agree with your thoughts Del.    It's not like the good old days of the Balcons?   I think it's actually impossible to see  car being worked on in their Pit from the Pit grandstand.

Though I've no doubt that the Start and Finish  can look good from there as you don't have all the debris fencing in the way.
But of course your faceing in to the sun.

some you just can't win.

You can get into the pit grandstand during Wednesday and Thursday qualifying to see if you like the view, before ordering your ticket for next year.

Weather permitting (it always seems to pee down on Wednesday practice), I always try to take the bulk of my pics during practice as it's much easier with fewer people about.  It also makes the race more relaxed as I'm not carting so much stuff about.  And as Christopher says, you can move around all the grandstands.

years gone by,when we went as a large group,we use to swap n change during the week our tickets, but as numbers reduced(marriage, marriage, marriage & children) and the advent of health n safety (tall fences!),the options decreased, hence plumping for the pits this year (just got engaged, ??? ???!)

I hope she doesn't realise about the  ???!  You could do one of those pre-nuptial agreements where a week off in June was one of the conditions.

Or you could bring her with you...  Just send her off to the centre of Le Mans (quick train service to Paris too) with your credit card in hand...

Unless she's as interested in being at the race as you are in which case no problem. My O/H has been for the last 13 years and shows no signs of diminishing interest.

She finds motor racing baffling. Mrs Sconefingers take on Le Mans- The cars don't look like cars, why don't they just race for 1 hour? etc. Why don't you race at le mans if its so good? does anyone else race old Volvos at LM? etc. Why does it need new tyres, mine last for years- it can't be a very good car? Whats the point of it? Oh he's fit - is he married(Loeb)??
I'd kill her before midnight. And don't get me started on Card abuse.

my other has no feeling regards motorsport at all,

Like you my wife was not into motorsport, however due to circumstances, she came to the 2004 Classic, with me.
She has now been to 2 Classic's and is looking forward to her third in 2008.
Le Mans 'light' it may be, but it's a good introduction to LM, and the attraction it holds on people.

I'm mot knocking taking the missus- there are plus points, she would be much nicer to look at over a glass of vino on an eve than some of the buggers on here, but Le Mans for me is the last bastion of maleness- where one can have under cooked steak and Stella for breakfast and give an appreciative belch to the chef, read porn and talk cars and past conquests, pick your nose and  smoke 80 a day without fear and prejudice.
Long may it continue to be so!

Well, er, tough!  I'm not going to stay away, even to please you s/f! ;)  But you may of course smoke as many fags as me, talk cars all day and all night, and f*rt and belch as much as you like.  Is it possible to undercook a steak?

And for most of the above reasons , she doesn't want to attend the main event. Thank God.

<JohnCleeseVoice>
Excuse me for stating the Bleedin' Obvious,  but it wouldn't be a 24hour then! Would it!
</JohnCleeseVoice>

Why don't you race at le mans if its so good?
I would if you'd lay off my credit card for a 24 hours.

Whats the point of it?

Now that's  very good question.  If we knew exactly why Sports Car Racing is so good we coul dmake a lot of money.

On the contrary Termie me old bean, i'm looking forward to meeting you this year, don't get me wrong, i for one would be perfectly happy for more female fans at LM. Its just my missus cannot understand the whole thing. Why would i want to sit in a van for 1200 miles and go without sleep or soap for 90 odd hours to watch a load of blokes in baby grows drive round in circles when i could be at Ikea or watching a nice film with Hugh Grant in it? It would be torture for us both.

On the steak front, last year I visited the Great Yorkshire Show, i got so hungry looking at cows i had to leave. Is this normal?
See you for a raw one?

Kids thats whats next.  My five year old daughter asked if she could come to Le Mans and live in a tent.

My reply was "no, not ever unless you go with some else"  I really dont want her to see me doing most of the things that I tell her off for + drinking lots smoking lots and general blokeyness.  And as Le Mans is full blokes and not many girls I know what will happen!

I went motor racing with my old man all the time, from the age of 5, and look where it got me! (I drank pints of lemonade then though!)  Seriously though, I don't think LM campsites are really great places for kids (but then I tend to think that about most of the places I go to. ;))

I seem to think it was about 10/11 years ago.

I took my best mate and our two sons and they befriended the TWR/Nissan team

Bearing in mind they were 12/13yrs old, they assisted the team during the practices with general behind pitwall stuff and came away with loads of goodies.

ME, they would not let in.

Some times kids have a better deal, especially when a load of team members arrive for a barbie at our pitch on MB.

My son donated his teamshirt to me 3 yrs ago and I still wear it.

I too have a daughter and should have another 2 wks after the race but I can't wait to take her to Le mans. You always see dads and their little ones sat in the stands at 3 in the morning, juniors little eyes struggling but still clutching his/her lap chart and smiling surrounded in a paternal glow. Makes me all soft inside and homesick. She's only 2 but loves cars and racing. Dad took me everywhere as a kid- RAC rallies we never missed and will never forget it.
Funny- never miss the wife tho'

When was LM hosted on 3rd June?

I had broke my mobile (truely an accident) and didn't want to queue up for hours at the public 'phone at MB and just forgot to 'phone beloved on our wedding anniversay!

She knew I and son were OK because the Police never knocked on the door.

BUT, they will never let you forget a minor misdemenour like that.

The grandstand seat numbers in the Pits grandstand begin with No. 1 on the right hand side as you face it.  All the grandstands opposite are numbered from left to right as you face them.
In other words ca, if you have a low numbered seat you will be above the low numbered pits and closest to the start finish line.
