Title: CA Cavalcade, Great British Welcome, Mad Friday -update- ROUTE DETAILS attached Post by: termietermite on April 01, 2007, 11:11:19 am We've discussed this here
http://www.clubarnage.com/forum/index.php?topic=6363.0 but I now have a bit more time so want to start some route and food planning. Who is genuninely interested in coming? Leave around 11.30, lunch at 13.00, leave bar about 14.00, arrive St Sat 15.30 ish. I'll need some real commitment as to numbers as I'll have to order food in advance (I'm going to suggest that we just use the cold buffet which is always on at lunchtime.) < complete information and route details are now attached - Steve > Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on April 01, 2007, 02:33:18 pm Me Termie, me me me!
I will be there. Gary will be aiming to join us at St Sat but he'll be along soon to confirm. I doubt if he will be able to "do" lunch beforehand as he is a Friday afternoon arriver! :D Bill Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on April 01, 2007, 06:10:53 pm Purdu is correct.
Friday afternoon arrival if I'm lucky, so it'll be a phone call to find out where you all are and a meet up then. Save me a plate of Choucroute garnie please. Gary Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Steve Pyro on April 01, 2007, 06:36:45 pm My crowd normally go to St Saturnin any way, so we should be definate. However, I'll send them a round robin and confirm later.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 07, 2007, 12:01:09 pm Just bumping this one up front. If there isn't enough interest I will not bother with it. I'll leave this running until the end of the month (April) and if there aren't enought takers,I will just do the handprint ceremony on Friday morning and then go to St Sat for lunch.
Anybody who would prefer that as an alternative, we could drive out through the countryside to my bar afterwards if we feel like it. Less organising and less hassle for me. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Snoring Rhino on April 07, 2007, 09:07:02 pm Definatly will do ST Sat, easy on the rest, if there is enough interest include me, not sure how many pasengers though, will ask the SPS crew.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Lawnmower Man on April 07, 2007, 09:35:44 pm I keep saying I'm going to go down there and never do. So this year i'll make a real effort.
t Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: TobyAnscombe on April 07, 2007, 09:54:33 pm I will be there. Gary will be aiming to join us at St Sat but he'll be along soon to confirm. Methinks a Transit might be slightly out of place ;-) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Robbo SPS on April 08, 2007, 12:45:13 am I will be there. Methinks a Transit might be slightly out of place ;-) What about my LDV then ?? I like some bits. The food idea, not so sure about. 1000 is breakfast for us usually... Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 08, 2007, 12:33:42 pm I can mail the CBW people to make sure there's food!
Lots of room in our vehicles. Three spaces in the Mondie -those with very short legs only in the back - and 3 in my roller-skate. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on April 08, 2007, 05:54:17 pm I will be there. Gary will be aiming to join us at St Sat but he'll be along soon to confirm. Methinks a Transit might be slightly out of place ;-) Toby, it seems I will have a passenger* (Bill2) for the Le Mans trip but if he declines to visit St Sat, you are in! But there will be space somewhere anyway. *(long story...) :) Bill Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: TobyAnscombe on April 08, 2007, 06:53:22 pm Ta - looking forward to dealing with real people again....
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: mgmark on April 08, 2007, 10:16:43 pm Count me in - whatever the arrangements, I'll plan to slot in with the MGA.
MG Mark Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 09, 2007, 10:00:07 am Right - I've done a poll.
Alternative 1 : Meet near circuit, drive out to my bar at St Cosme for lunch, then arrive St Sat about 15.30. Alternative 2 : Meet for lunch at St Sat, then drive out in the afternoon with a beer at the bar en route. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Steve Pyro on April 09, 2007, 11:05:58 pm Deb, I've had replies from my bunch. We'll all up for it - so that's 5 cars (10 people).
We're happy with either option - will take the majority decision. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Bob T on April 21, 2007, 12:23:50 am I'll be arriving Thursday PM I'm up for that one. Sounds like an excellent jaunt across town.
Not sure about suffering the water and beer in a roadster at the mad roundabout on the way back though. Will we be coming that way? Will have passenger seat going spare Toby. Put me down as a definite. More reason to get away from work on Thursday and travel down with my little gang. Gary? Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on April 21, 2007, 12:29:10 am As mentioned I won't be getting there till late Friday afternoon so it will be a case of either meeting at a prearranged spot or phoning on arrival to find out where everyone is.
Then again you could all form a line of honour St. Sat to welcome me in ::) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 21, 2007, 10:27:58 am At present I am favouring the meet at St Sat and drive out in the afternoon. More flexible and less commintment needed. Final decision a the end of the month. Gary, I can direct you to the bar (Herard would be very disappointed to miss having a Frogeye outside his place!)and we'll do the guard of honour there.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: powermite on April 23, 2007, 02:32:33 pm now i know i said the WANCs wont be at LM this year, but our other plans are looking decidedly dodgy,so if we do come we will be coming in our cars and not the usual Winnebago.I would love to meet up with you all in St Sat,and im sure you wouldnt mind having three V8s with over 1000 bhp between them burbling through the countryside!
Cheers PM Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 23, 2007, 02:37:14 pm Sounds great, Mr Mite. Especially as we're probably related!! (I think the Ter bit was added by an ancestor of mine in the 18th century.)

Hi PM would you hurry up and make up your mind ??? ::) ;D I want a ride in the Trans AmCheers PM Hi Termie, Count me in too if PM does not make it I will beg a ride somewhere. Phil Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 24, 2007, 10:06:25 am Fancy a ride in a nice red car Phil? - if the other mites don't make it.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Canada Phil on April 25, 2007, 05:16:59 am Fancy a ride in a nice red car Phil? - if the other mites don't make it. Hi Termie,Red is nice, so yes please. Whizzing along the country roads ;D Phil Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 25, 2007, 10:11:10 am I thought it would probably be best if I led the way in my little roller skate as it seems a good idea to have a local, modern car just in case of any problems on the way. I'm suggesting to Paul that he acts as rear-guard in the Mondie so I'll tell him you'll go along as passenger, Phil.
I've recced half the route so far and have planned the rest on paper at least. Barring a huge demand to do it the other way (not likely looking at the poll so far) will hope to leave St Sat at about 14.00. That gives everybody the chance to turn up whenever they want to and look around, plus get lunch if they wish. I'd expect we'll all be back at the circuit around 18.00, allowing a little time for hold-ups getting back in. As the drivers' parade will be on, I imagine though that this will be relatively easy, especially as we'll be approaching from a different direction from those coming from the UK. All depends on how long we hang around in the bar mid-way. I'll publish details of the route nearer the time for anybody who wishes to download them so there's a back-up if anybody loses the convoy or has a break down. Late-comers will be able to join us at the bar in St Cosme, which we should reach around 15.30. As I don't have to book lunch, there is no problem if more people decide to join us nearer the time. Just one thing, does anybody have a CA flag I could borrow for the day as I think it would be a good idea to have one on my car so it's easy to spot? Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Steve Pyro on April 25, 2007, 06:06:10 pm It's sounding good. Dick has got the TR6 running again and all cobras are coming along.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: mgmark on April 25, 2007, 09:45:17 pm Plan and times sound great for a nice trip to St Saturnin, out to your place and then back into Arnage for a bit, before the festivities of Friday night ;D - I'll be there in the MGA and the lads probably in a Vectra.
MG Mark Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: mal on April 26, 2007, 11:05:48 pm Looks like some of my crew are interested in this. Are we allowed to join in?

The more the merrier - full details soon. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: elanman on April 27, 2007, 11:57:34 am Count me in as well, I'll go with the flow as far as the actual plan goes, I'll most likely be in the company of Mark in the MGA I'll be in the Elan and probably able to persuade a few other Elaners to join in.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 27, 2007, 04:06:10 pm Count me in as well, I'll go with the flow as far as theactual plan goes, I'll most likely be in the company of Mark in the MGA I'll be in the Elan and probably able to persuade a few other Elaners to join in. He hasn't seen scruffy ol' Lara yet though, has he?
It's Ok though, like me she's not too proud to mix with her betters. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 27, 2007, 06:03:04 pm Things are coming along. I have now received a reply to my "heads up" e-mail to the Vice President of the Classic British Welcome, John Curtis:
"I feel honoured that you want to come 'en masse' to the CBW... I've passed on your request to our chief parking marshall to see... if he wants to allocate you a special plot!" Couldn't have been more helpful, eh? Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 27, 2007, 10:07:36 pm All is coming along nicely.
Some help required, though: As said above, I could do with a CA flag to mark our gathering spot at St Sat and to have in my car to make me easier to follow. I need a masochistic volunteer to travel with me as lookout, etc. (I have air-con...) I could do with a couple of people who are coming in modern, reliable vehicles to travel in the convoy to aid anybody who gets into problems : ie, break-downs (god forbid) etc so the rest of the group doesn't get held up. Steve (or anybody with a web-site) - if I do a word document, could you convert it to a down-loadable document whose link we could post on this site - so people can download route info? Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Canada Phil on April 28, 2007, 03:14:50 am All is coming along nicely. This sounds like a nice little jaunt. I've been holding off from begging a lift with someone because I've been trying hard to think what I normally do on a Friday. As I have no idea, I reckon I will be up for this. Those of you that know Mark, my oppo - he would be too (if I tell him he is...) Much as I would love to do this in the passenger seat of someone's exotica, I will volunteer to take the Veccy, if that's what you're looking for Termie. It is a V6, but being the Elite it doesn't even have visible tail pipes. No tow bar though. Of course, if someone comes along with the offer of an absolutely unrefusable ride then I might retract... :) (If someone could give Mark a ride he would appreciate it...but don't depend on him for navigation, driving - well anything, really :o)) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on April 28, 2007, 10:16:21 am If I make it on time and someone in a car with space, can relieve me of all my kit which will be on the passenger seat. I will be able to take a passenger.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 28, 2007, 10:20:18 am Phil, that would be great, it would be good to have your company. But you haven't seen my car. You may decide you need to bring a large paper bag to put over your head to avoid the embarassment of being seen in it.
However, then Paul will need a passenger so maybe Mark would like to go along in the red car instead, Smokie? However,if he's a cr*p navigator then the combination of him and Paul could be quite funny.... Happily, at this rate they'll have a long line of cars to follow. Mr T is UK bound on Wednesday so I can spend a bit of time fine-tuning the route and finishing writing it up so with any luck I should have it ready in a week or so. I'm planning a nice relaxed drive to take in a few villages and some pleasant countryside, with hopefully a couple of stretches of road which should be pretty flic :police:-free for one or two of you to open up a bit! Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 28, 2007, 11:24:30 am I have just had a call from the parking marshall at the CBW. They are setting aside a special parking place for us. It's all coming together splendidly. :)
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on April 28, 2007, 12:23:06 pm Oh dear, they havent seen Lara either.
I might hide near the back :-[ Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: mgmark on April 28, 2007, 07:05:33 pm Bill - you do the dear old girl such an injustice - she has a delightful patina, acquired over many years of being used for what she was built for - having fun, being driven in spirited fashion ;D
MG Mark Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on April 28, 2007, 07:18:57 pm Ok then, thanks for those kind words sir!
I'll say it loud, I'll say it proud, no dammit I wont hide her at the back at all. (OK fair cop guv, I wasn't really gonna anyway, she's my babe and I'm very happy with her!) I have to say she does me very well. :) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Canada Phil on April 29, 2007, 04:12:01 am Oh ohh! Life's full of such tough decisions.Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on April 29, 2007, 07:13:17 pm Phil, that Sherman DD is quite a monument. It was lost in the sea during the D-Day training at Start Bay. Divers recovered it after the War and it was mounted as a memorial at Torpoint some time ago.
The plaque isnt clear whether the crew were lost when it sank but I doubt if getting out of a swamped Sherman was easy. I usually visit it when I am in South Devon, that time I was in convoy. bill Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on April 29, 2007, 10:58:09 pm
Hi Perdu, Which one is Lara? surek\ly not the green one at the back wit a turret ;D Phil
No. His is the green one at the front with the speed nipple ;D Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Papa Lazarou on April 29, 2007, 11:27:20 pm Er Termie,
Is this open to any vehicle to tag along, or just those of a British classic persuasion? I wouldn't mind the trip but being a driver of a jap wrc tool I don't want to stick out too much... I could park at the back behind the tank if you like! Patrick. No old classic car since the demise of the black Granada though. Will be an Omega estate if we are awake enough. I'll confirm once a decision has been arrived at.(We are very democratic) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on April 30, 2007, 10:23:23 am Er Termie, If this makes you feel any better - the Pace Car's a Micra..... ::)Is this open to any vehicle to tag along, or just those of a British classic persuasion? Herard at the bar is arranging for us to be able to use a car park opposite also, so we'll have space for plenty. I've just looked at your link and I'd just like to point out a couple of very minor things. The bar is half way, not at the end. Also, it does not belong to me but to a French petrolhead (Herard, mentioned above!) Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: elanman on May 01, 2007, 06:14:54 pm Termie,

That should keep Mr G. Frogeye happy then, just make sure he drives off in the right one won't you?

Not a faux pas at all, It's just that in my experience some (but by no means all) Big Healey owners would rather their cars didn't have to mix with their little siblings. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: lynxd67 on May 10, 2007, 01:30:12 pm As regards St. Saturnin, I'll be there most of the day helping out with the Parade des Pilote so sadly won't be able to join you, but if you see this car there and an old bald geezer nearby please say hi. It would be nice to put a face to a name
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on May 10, 2007, 02:17:17 pm Oh Oh I want it, Pleeeaaasse.

NB My frogeye back in the '60's went over a hump back bridge, hurdled a hedge neatly since the road turned 90 deg. right, and finished in the breakers yard......... Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on May 10, 2007, 03:46:33 pm That'll probably be the one I have now then!
No. I'd be happy for a staight swap, you wouldn't have to give me any money on top of the Jaguar. I'll look out for you there. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: lynxd67 on May 10, 2007, 04:14:22 pm Thank you for your very kind offer, especially as it wouldn't dent my bank balance, but I must, regretfully, decline your offer in this instance. However, being a mean bast**d at heart and with the best intentions of pi$$ing you off entirely, depending on mood I might be there in this one..... ;D ;D ;D

Well there are at least 6 of my group, including myself who have Healeys of various sorts and to us the Sprite is a fantastic car and as much part of the Healey story as any Healey. In fact this will be the first year this century that we havent had a Frogeye along with us. We do have 2 big Healeys though so do look us up and you will find a cold beer or two to welcome you. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on May 10, 2007, 07:33:28 pm Much appreciated Mal.
Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: Perdu on May 10, 2007, 10:43:40 pm Mal, thanks for that invite... Err does that include second cousins twice removed with Midgets? ;)
You are also cordially welcomed to our small enclave in HA any time you are passing. Ah lynxd67, there it is! Do you know, I just put it down somewhere back in about 1960 and forgot where I put it. Sorry Gary that one is mine! :D OK true confessions, mine was a little bit smaller than that one, but just as bootiful! Even had a separate key that you could always lose down the floorboards, to wind it up with. And rubber tyres... Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: garyfrogeye on May 10, 2007, 10:48:30 pm lynxd67,
It appears that you my have stolen the rear lights and number plate lamp off my frogeye. I'd like them back please. No need to remove the car first. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: lynxd67 on May 10, 2007, 11:13:01 pm I confess. I have posted the complete ensemble on a collect basis. I appreciate that 1 ton of postage is well within your means and so you will be receiving the full package shortly by registered post. I think that for tax purposes I have declared a total of £5 for the value of the car and £95,995 postage. I am sure you will be in complete agreement with this but I regret I do not accept Paypal in view of previous fraudulent attempts. I assume that you will wish to prevent any bad reference resulting in a less than 100% record on your Ebay account and will settle promptly.

I have sent full details of my bank account (with the bank of Mickey Souri) here in France to Nigeria and no doubt will be receiving the $125 million promised shortly. I thank you all for your kind interest and hope that your prospective purchases will be found shortly

Personal appearances cost twice the postage. Anyway, the car is on its way to Nigeria to defray the costs of the transfer of the $125 million to my account here in the Bank of Dreams

Problem is that some of our guys will arrive on Friday, and we never know when. So, to try to tie this down a bit, I'll try to get them to arrive via St Sat :)
Termie, when you say "lunch" are we talking 12.00, 13.00, 15.00?? Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Mad Friday Post by: termietermite on May 18, 2007, 11:34:22 am Somewhere back in this thread, jpc, is a link to my notes on the trip (in a post by Steve B). We're leaving lunch arrangements to individuals and are leaving St Sat at 14.00 (ish) - I say ish because the parade cars arrive then and we may wait another 15 minutes now to let everybody see them. We have a stop at about 15.30 and I can give you directions to that so that anybody who's late can meet us all there. Do come along, the lists of cars is beginning to look a bit tasty, isn't it?
I'm off with Mr Termite today - he's going to act as guinea pig and test my directions - and I'll publish the route at the weekend. Herard and the bar staff looked after us so well and the locals were seriously impressed by our little collection - I think the Mustang went down best! ;D
Sorry that the St Sat arrangements were not as good as they should have been. I think that the trouble going on around the circuit for the usual Mad Friday antics meant that it was much busier than the organisers anticipated, which was why we ended up being parked all over the place so it was very hard to gather everybody together for the departure. Well done to those who made it, in spite of the slightly sticky start, especially Danny who in spite of a broken leg managed to join us on the Sille road and come along - hope it was worth it. Mods - you could un-sticky this now! Sorry I didnt make it, I was recovering from the fine DFH/ Piglet/KK party and wasnt fit enough. I did try and find you but as you say SSaturnin was a bit packed, may be a sligh mod to the plan for next year. Title: Re: CA Cavalcade, Great British Welcome, Mad Friday -update- ROUTE DETAILS attached Post by: mgmark on June 19, 2007, 05:15:55 pm As I said on the day, many thanks for the effort in putting the run together - from experience I know how much it takes! The countryside was lovely, nice villages, and passing BUG 11 (the Bugatti Veyron that was in the area last week) coming the other way on the road in one of the villages was great. Herard's bar/restaurant was a nice way to finish it off and it was good to do something a bit different with Friday afternoon.
One suggestion for next year for the St S bit : the link up of everyone on the road outside seemed to work well, so rather than trying to get a designated area for parking inside the CBW, simply set a designated point within CBW for everyone to meet up, to then go to their cars and form up outside.
