Did you watch the Race To Dakar series that Charlie Boorman et al made? Impressive stuff! Patrick. Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Steve Pyro on January 15, 2007, 12:30:13 am I admit it's required viewing for me every day it's on of every year.
The Sunday night highlights is on now as I type this. Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Canada Phil on January 15, 2007, 05:30:26 am All I get is 1/2 hour of the days stage :(

Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: mgmark on January 16, 2007, 09:24:02 am Wonderful stuff and well covered on National TV here. What an antedote to the winter! :) Normally marvellous on Eurosport although the bloody snooker overran and took priority last night - I ask you - snooker - pah!! MG Mark Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Steve Pyro on January 16, 2007, 12:01:26 pm An interesting point there Mark.
Due to the rather dull snooker over-running for the past two nights by an hour (and a likelihood that it will for the rest of the week) the Eurosport nightly coverage has been delayed. Last week, Eurosport's Dakar commentator urged people to visit Eurosport's web site forum area and note their views and comments about the days racing. Due to the past two evenings coverage being 'sabotaged' by the snooker, the Eurosport forum has come alive with posts of disgust and annoyance at the delayed coverage - was beyond 550 posts of complaint last night. Many posters said they would suggest that Motors TV cover the Dakar next year. Didn't Motors TV win 24 hour live coverage of the LM 24 from Eurosport in 2006? http://forums.eurosport.com/showthread.php?p=215404#post215404 (http://forums.eurosport.com/showthread.php?p=215404#post215404) Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Bob U on January 16, 2007, 12:22:53 pm I don't think Eurosport ever did a full 24 Hour coverage. It was the first and last 2 hours plus a few 1 hour highlight programmes during the race.
Motors TV covering the Daker? excellent idea, have e-mailed my thoughts Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: mgmark on January 16, 2007, 01:45:50 pm An interesting point there Mark. Due to the rather dull snooker over-running for the past two nights by an hour (and a likelihood that it will for the rest of the week) the Eurosport nightly coverage has been delayed. And when you race off road and love the Dakar, and have an Oh Crack of Sparrows Hundred Hours start every weekday morning to get a train into town to go to work each weekday, it gets really, really irritating.........and I am now.....right onto the Eurosport website to vent some spleen! MG Mark Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Steve Pyro on January 16, 2007, 02:18:30 pm British Eurosport's schedule puts 'live' coverage at 23:30 tonight ::)
Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: mgmark on January 16, 2007, 02:36:13 pm British Eurosport's schedule puts 'live' coverage at 23:30 tonight ::) Oh great...my cup really bloody well overfloweth now....... Probably the best way to get coverage is to convince my driver that we should have a crack at the race next year, then unreliable Eurosport scheduling wouldn't be an issue! MG Mark Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: Dirk3D_NL on January 17, 2007, 09:58:13 pm it is great to watch, here in Holland we have 2 journals a day on it, scenery is amazing, and we have some favourites for the victory in the truck area :)
I've seen those monsters live for the last 2 years at a motorfestival in Holland, (De Rooy and Stacey), beautiful and LOUD! Audi could learn from it :D Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: nopanic - neil on January 18, 2007, 12:02:11 am Watching Eurosport Dakar report and just saw a interview with Tim Coronel driving a Blower fromHolland.
Good interview and he seems a nice polite guy. Makes me sick, most of you guys from holland seem very nice and polite! ;D Hope he has a good race. Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: LangTall on January 18, 2007, 11:28:37 am He'S driving a Bowler nopanic, not a Blower. ;)
His navigator also happens to be his girlfriend, talking about keeping him on the right track, huh? ;D Title: Re: Dakar Race Post by: johnevans3 on January 18, 2007, 02:25:37 pm I'm watching on OLN here in North America. We get a 30 minute program with sparse highlights about each category and the 5 or so top performers for the day.
A co-worker with me here in Texas has a friend from New Orleans (originally from Eng.) competing in the bike class. His name is Paul Broome and he drives the only Honda in the superbike over 450cc class. He is way down in the running but for a first time privateer, just to finish would be a big win for him. It is tough racing for sure but fun to watch and it's really interesting to see fellow racers stop to help those who have crashed or broken down. I thought you only see that in the movies.
