Title: Email from the ACO scam?
Post by: garyfrogeye on January 13, 2007, 09:50:53 am
I've received an email from the ACO telling me  (in English and French) about a special New Years offer.
Although it does link to a page which looks very authentic. The things which have worried me are
1. I don't remember giving them my email address
2. at the bottom it says;

"Offer available until the 31rd January 2007.

NB : if you are already member of the ACO, please don’t mention of this mail."

Anyone else received this?

It definately has the authentic ring of the ACO's attempts at translation!

I got the mail as well, it is an official mailing

2 years ago I competed in a contest on the ACO site (lemans.org) and had to fill in my email and address.

Every now and then since that time I recieve an email with offerings and even the odd letter in the mail trying to inlist me into their membership

Very rare though so not bothering me

edit: when you go to the aco site not using the link you will find the same offer, so definately trustworthy

Cheers,
I don't remember giving them my email but never mind.
It was just that the wording looked quite amature.

Some of the ACO's translations can be quite funny, you would have thought that given the size of the American and Btitish contingent at LM, they could afford to hire a translator with an ability to produce idiomatic translations.

Very French, I'm afraid, with such high unemployment here there is a huge resistance to employing any non-French national, even when - as is the case here - they would be better qualified.  "Always translate into your own language, not from it" goes against the ethos!!!  I'm just glad I don't need to look for a job here (or the ACO's door would be one of the first I would knock on). ;D

Thats a shame, having someone on the 'inside' would be very useful!
