Title: Le Mans Series at Silverstone
Post by: monkey on January 09, 2007, 03:05:13 pm
Sorry if this has already been covered but just noticed that the Le Mans Series has been confirmed for Silverstone and is late, scheduled for the 14/15/16 September!

More details here: http://www.lmes.net/2007/uk/index.asp

What a shame they have chosen that characterless dump over Donington (thoroughly enjoyed it last year - a spectacular place to see these cars).

Still, as I have only limited finances, I will have to attend as this is the only circuit (other than LM itself of course!) I can afford to attend.

I agree with your comments re Silverstone v Donington, the latter being by far the better Circuit. I too am sorry that it has shifted back to dull old Silverstone >:(

It could be fun if we can stay in the infield again. See Rick cut off another finger, wake up by the sounds of early Sunday races, and get so many rain showers you get the feeling you might be drained into the sewich any minute ;D

Oh, and it's quite handy to clean the large DfH-flags too! :D

Sounds like fun, I'm not sure where the calendar puts us on that date.

Sadly Donington was virtually unworkable for the teams given the changes that were made to the pit lane ahead of the last race.

wake up by the sounds of early Sunday races,

You were lucky to sleep that long, it was Zarse and his bloody Call to prayer alarm clock that woke me up

I think Paddy's referring to the phantom VW track lap.

Phantom lap? Surely that is just a myth like Nessie, Bigfoot or freebeer ::)

Ah, that was that video shoot that Rick took - where he appeared to have forgotten to take the cover off the lense! ;D

That will be MR Z with the video, I only heard about it.

As for the date:-

That is about the same time of year the britcar is run! Wouldn't it be great planning if the LMS is run during the day on the saturday, then in the evening the 24hours of Britcar is run!!!

Trying to find the date of Britcar now.

So that will be Silverstone two weekend on the trot then!

I would seriously advice that people from DfH stay for the week and then see the 24 hours Britcar aswell, Rollcenter will probably stay over that week at the circuit! Maybe we can sort out a week of entertainment for visitors.

Oddly, Rick, I've seen the date but not the venue confirmed! Their own site is still in '06 mode so unhelpful.

It will almost certainly be Silverstone as the grid has upto 80 cars, there are not many tracks that have a paddock or race track big enought to have them all in. Plus Britcar has only been run a couple of years as a 24 hour event and has always been at Silverstone. Lots of circuits have noise orders on them that would stop  night racing completly. Silverstone as far as I am aware does not have any noise orders placed on them. The only hope I have is that this year Britcar allow on circuit camping as this would really boost the numbers.

I have heard rumour that the Britcar 24 won't happen as the costs of running it are too high.

Potentially only gossip, but who knows.

I really hope that is just a rumour as last years was a great race dispite a few teams being sabotaged. The EERC would make a lot more money if that advertised at Le Mans and provided camping on the infield.

There is a press release on the Britcar website that talks about the problems that they have had concerning complaints about the noise from the race last year, but it mentions that the objections have been overcome and provided certain modifications are adhered to (not specified) then the race will go ahead at Silverstone again in 2007 the week before the 1000K being the most likely date. ;D

I think my car stereo was louder then the cars at night due to the fog slowing them down.

I can never understand why people buy a house near a racing circuit and then complain about the noise. If they ever say it was not a racetrack before they moved in then it was probably an airport!

So as long as they are all whispering Audi Diesels we'll be OK!!  ;)  ;D

We'll just get the Flying Baguettes out to cause complaints then! ;D

Or should I come along  and play around with the stereo? ;D

Ironically I understand that it was the fog that caused the problem. Sound travels further in damp air (or through water) and that meant that folk slightly further away were disturbed during the night. ::)

And yet, the cars ran behind the Safety Car during the fog at a much reduced pace. I'd woulda thought the A43 created more noise.
