Many of us enjoyed the Charlatans this year and JK a couple of years back. But given a choice, who would you like to see do a set on Saturday night - my vote would go to Greenday.

Almost any of the sixties "three guitars and a drummer" bands, but I feel the Beatles wont be up for it.
At the moment around Brum there is a live show featuring a quarter of the Move*(Bev Bevan), Steve Gibbons and Trevor Burton with Danny King and a narrative by Laurie Hornsby. Some great bands listed here - although there would be no chance of ever seeing some of those mentioned as a number of key personnel from these groups are experiencing a state widely known as death...

Call me old fashioned but I go to Le Mans to WATCH MOTOR RACING not bands. Attending gigs is something I do when not at Le Mans.

First Le Mans car I heard was a Panoz LMP1 firing up, I was sitting in Bleu campsite at the time. I rushed into the circuit to find out what was producing that beautiful music. ;D

As a middle aged old fart, I remember this lot in there hay day. Status Quo, are the band to get. Every concert I have been to, has an age range from 16 to 60+.

just like the fairground or the Poo bar, it follows the traditional essence of Le Mans which has actually been going since its inception - mainly through Brits enjoying the fruits of French Wine and Beer. For many its apart the Le Mans experience for some its not (probably those who moan about noisy campsites).I suppose this thread, and your last posting Ian, just goes to highlight the diverse nature of the Le Mans crowd. I, and thousands of others I suspect, have never and never will visit either the fairground or the Poo bar as they have nothing to do with the motor racing that I have travelled hundreds and hundreds of miles to see. Basically the same reason that I don't give a stuff who the ACO books for a Saturday night gig. Going to the fair, drinking champagne and attending gigs are all things that I could do anytime (though to be honest fairgrounds don't hold any fascination for me). As for noisy campsites I don't have any complaints - I don't ever go on them as I have better things to do... watch motor racing.
But the diversity of the crowd and how they enjoy the weekend IS one of the things that makes the event SPECIAL so please don't think that I look askance at those who do the fairground/Poo bar/Saturday gig thing it just isn't for me.
I expect you are all thinking that I must be a sad lonely figure at Le Mans but no, that is not the case. There really are many, many fans of the Great Race who think like me on this and just like the rest of you we meet up travel mob handed and have a fantastic time.
Long may it continue. Le Mans is for some a social festival with motor racing on the side and for others, like me, a motor racing festival with social events on the side. We all love it, we all have a great time. Roll on June!!

Although I can't say I disagree with your sentiments o/t, it doesn't seem to me that taking a couple of hours out of the 9 days that is LM, to catch up with some old mates, is such a problem. There's something about doing this with the sound of those Vettes in the background that makes it really special. Presumably, you do eat and drink at some point. I normally don't spend more than about 4 or 5 hours in the 24 NOT watching the cars, but even I enjoy a bit of socialising too.
I agree about the funfair but one day, just try going up in the big wheel if only for a totally different perspective of the circuit.

Catching up with old mates is not a problem at all Termie, as I say I don't travel alone. Perhaps it has something to do with 'the 9 days that is LM'. For me, and probably many others too, limited holiday allowances from work coupled with family holiday commitments at other times in the year mean that LM is 5 days if I am lucky (and more usually 4) so the socialising time is reduced and more of it is done trackside than barside...
Big wheel... OK will consider giving it a go.

Have to say oldtimer I think I agree with you on this one. I look forward the LM pretty much all year and it seems strange to me to even think about missing motor racing action during the 24 hours, watching a band - plenty of time to do that all year round.
So in a way and to guarantee I don’t even have to make a decision about ‘shall I shant I’ I think if the ACO were booking a band I would recommend Franz Ferdinand because I would not go to the bottom of my tiny garden to see them cause I think they're sh+te

Has been known for the odd bottle of Poo to make it into the baggage for consumption trackside somewhere...
Based on one of the other threads it may be that the Poo is consumed to the sound of 51 of them - I saw that Audi/Peugeot but didn't hear a thing ;D

Now that's what I call the best restaurant on the planet.
We use the very same restaurant on Saturday evening before moving round to Arnage as dusk turns to night. A very pleasant way to spend a summer's evening

Have the ACO actually said there will be a band on Saturday night, is this all just speculation?
Personally, I would like to see a band on Sunday night. Just a small affair for those who perfer to travel home on the Monday. Maybe a covers or tribuite band as they should be a lot cheaper to book.

That is a very god point, and would be great if they could do something along those lines, perhaps the Flying Baguettes should make themselves avalible to the ACO ;).Personally, I would like to see a band on Sunday night. Oh Dear..... I think you have stunned everyone into silence.
The Flying Baguettes are the excellent group that have graced the DfH friday night party within the Platinum Triangle on MB for the last 2 years - for part of the time accompanying a superb guest vocalist (JPC).
This year was augmented by the equally excellent pyrotechnical display put on by Rusty of the Bretheren.
