Do Bushys still give away the free TT stickers? The ones I've got from when I was there in 97 are a bit past it. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Paddy_NL on October 09, 2006, 09:30:13 am Dunno, but will have a look for you - if I remember :-\
;) Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Piglet on October 09, 2006, 09:38:33 am We have a provisional date currently, it is usually confirmed around the end of November/December.
Some people book on the back of a provisional date, some people don't! You pays your money you takes your chance! Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: SteveB on October 09, 2006, 12:08:35 pm I checked with LD Lines last week and for 2 travelling on the Tuesday with a cabin, returning on the Monday it was £125, booked it 2 days later it had gone up to £145.....
Just checked again for a collegue , and it is now £235 Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: alibongo on October 09, 2006, 10:37:37 pm Blimey cor luvaduck, is that right how can the prices go up so fast? I had better get on the phone then assap :o
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Robbo SPS on October 10, 2006, 12:53:08 am I have just spent 2 hours reviewing the web for prices for my group.
Single cars , same routes times etc are the cheaper than last year by £9. My car is £20 more with the cabins, and group rates have come down again ? Looked at Transmanche but their afternoon ferry leaves too late so going to look at the Poole route again. Its cheaper than Portsmouth by £100 a car. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lorry on October 10, 2006, 11:14:04 am I've jumped in with LDL. £259 Sunday - Monday with the caravan up from £210 a fortnight ago. This is what I'd expect to pay Dover Calais and Brittany ferries want £450. I've never found Poole any cheaper, but these things change from year to year
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Nordic on October 10, 2006, 06:55:42 pm Pretty sure we will use the tunnel again this year.
You can use Tesco club card points to part pay for it, every £10 of vouchers is worth £40 of travel vouchers, brings the cost right down Will also look at Transmanche as well before we book, I prefer the drive from Dieppe. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: alibongo on October 10, 2006, 11:41:04 pm I have just spent 2 hours reviewing the web for prices for my group. Hey Robbo, used poole fast cat service this year cost me £208 car+2 no complaints, its a bit tricky to get on and off if you have something a bit low slung if you know what I mean.Single cars , same routes times etc are the cheaper than last year by £9. My car is £20 more with the cabins, and group rates have come down again ? Looked at Transmanche but their afternoon ferry leaves too late so going to look at the Poole route again. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Pilgrim on October 11, 2006, 12:41:59 pm I'll be going on foot from Plymouth, seeing as I live there and the ferryport is only ten minutes away in a cab.
Just sling the bare esential (clothes, tent, chair, sleeping bag) in a rucksack and hop on the train from Morlaix to Le Mans. I'll be there only 4-5 hours after arriving in France. I can buy whatever else I need when I get there. And I won't have a long drive or train journey when I get back either. Only costs £105 for a return ticket. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: fagey on October 11, 2006, 01:32:56 pm you should see the prices we have to pay to travel 60 miles from jersey to st malo :o dont even want to look yet cos it will upset me :'(
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: termietermite on October 11, 2006, 02:46:29 pm I realise I've mentioned this before here somewhere but think it might be worth repeating for some of you. Tunnel does a frequent traveller deal whereby you buy 10 single tickets in advance for around £350 and can travel on any date, although there are some extra charges for certain timings. Could be useful for anybody who crosses the channel more than once in a year (except from Jersey, that is!)
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: fagey on October 11, 2006, 02:49:19 pm Could be useful for anybody who crosses the channel more than once in a year (except from Jersey, that is!) some one should start bleedin digging ;) mind you there have been mutterings about building a bridge for years :o Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lorry on October 11, 2006, 05:02:32 pm you should see the prices we have to pay to travel 60 miles from jersey to st malo :o dont even want to look yet cos it will upset me :'( You thinks thats bad, look at the price of the Isle of Wight ferry, and you've then got Portsmouth Caen on top >:( >:(As for trains, one of our team went Eurostar, change at Lille for about £160 first class (under 25). It includes food and booze too Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Robbo SPS on October 13, 2006, 05:58:13 pm Most expensive fare per mile in the world the pile of poo ferry.

Anyone else going on the 15th at that time? Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: rcutler on October 31, 2006, 09:08:47 pm Well the ferry is booked for next year again! Brittany Ferries Pompy-Caen. Out on Sunday afternoon, returning Monday afternoon. And guess what :oCHEAPER THAN LAST YEAR!!! :o
Last year we had the van only 10m £536 This year we have the van and 4m trailer £404!!! Howzabout that then!!! Edited because I got the even cheaper price £60 out! Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Perdu on October 31, 2006, 09:51:43 pm I got two people 1 car LD Lines £140 total, club class seating.
Is club on LD as good as it was on the old P&O I wonder? Seems a longer trip than the old "Pride of Portsmouth" ship at 7½ hours though. Going on the Tuesday night crossing and returning on the following Tuesday afternoon/evening 1730 hrs. Roll on! :) :) :) bill Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: vqdave on November 01, 2006, 12:35:57 pm Just booked Speedferries £54 return had to book the 9am crossing on the Friday as the 11 am was already fully booked. Anyone else going on the 15th at that time? I will have another look, everytime i go to SF they will not let me book that far ahead. I will be on Friday too, but again doing an all nighter due to VQDave Jr needing company during the day till the wife gets home. Probably go for the 21.30 or there abouts again, and cruise through the dark in the Humber. Beauty 8) Probably coming back on the Tuesday, Rouen Sunday night, Bolognee Monday night due to my late arrival. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Andy Zarse on November 01, 2006, 03:56:50 pm In which case Dave, the Humber will have the opportunity to hook up with the Commer in Rouen on the sunday night. Rusty/Bretheren know all the local dives and lowlife bars in Rouen. I think also Mr N Diesel and gang are Roueners of a sunday too. We'll be staying in the free 3 star hotel again!
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Nobby Diesel on November 01, 2006, 04:21:16 pm Indeed. Rouen on a Sunday night is a traditional stopover.
No football next year, so no late hours at the bars. It's not all bad news though - one of our lads was beckoned into a party by a stocking and suspender belt wearing tranny! Also, if you don't have to dash off too early on Monday, there's an interesting selection of sex shops. The one that catches my eye is called "Le Box". Look upon it as a last opportunity to pick up a little gift for the missus, if you couldn't get that ACO endorsed G string in the correct size! Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Snoring Rhino on November 01, 2006, 04:55:27 pm We stopped in Rouen last year, for vairous reasons didnt get out to eat untill 11.30pm, still got a really good meal in a resturant facing the Cathederal!

A restaurant open on Sunday, I'm impressed.Stopovers are a good deal, even for Monday or the way down (cheaper ferries etc), and Ouistreham is favourite - le Broche d'Argent, good food (and the driver can drink), with the hotel room about E30, and have tried the Premier Classe hotel at Rouen Cow Roundabout, cheaper but its a bit isolated. Just my luck - no sex shops at either Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: vqdave on November 02, 2006, 09:21:54 am Excellent a Rootes gathering in Rouen. 8)
This too is our now regular stop, this year involved a chinese, pissed in a bar with whores upstairs and regularly popping into the bar wearing their skimpies to get the next punter, then a gay bar till the small hours. All very entertaining. This year we went Plymouth to Roscoff to see what it was like but to be honest there was very little atmosphere and we consider that to be part of the whole experience.
So we're looking forward to the usual at the Rudmore Cellars and on the overnight crossing next June. Can't wait. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: gab on November 04, 2006, 08:53:19 pm Del, thats not a nice way to talk about Goerge ;D

Do you have a link? This lot (Condor) are seriously cr*p aren't they? Must be a real pain being held to ransom by such a bunch of t*ss*rs. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lazy B'stard on November 21, 2006, 11:30:50 pm As usual I have left it too late again to book a crossing (well not late, i booked in march last year), sodding Brittany want £535 per car this year from pompy to caen, up from just under £400 last year. Any sugestions (apart from the obvious sarky ones!!)
One of the longer crossings would be ideal as its a 1100 mile round trip anyway from oop ere and the shorter crossings would put another 5-600 miles on top (plus a night crossing is the only time I get any kipp, never find the time for it once there!) Any sugestions (apart from the obvious sarky ones!!) Try LDlines.com. They only have one sailing each way per day Pompey-Le Havre, outbound overnight and inbound leaves about 5.00pm. No frills boat (in fact a bit tatty), but everything is there. I used them earlier this year (not en route to LM), and found them inexpensive compared to BF. It's only about 30miles longer from Le Havre to LM compared to Caen, and it is a good fast road (motorway nearly all the way) Best of luck Del Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: rcutler on November 21, 2006, 11:59:39 pm As usual I have left it too late again to book a crossing (well not late, i booked in march last year), sodding Brittany want £535 per car this year from pompy to caen, up from just under £400 last year. Bloody hell!!! We booked a Brittany Ferries crossing for a 12 meter van and 5 meter trailer for £460! Going out on Sunday 10th and coming back on Monday after the race. Try a different day for going out. Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lazy B'stard on November 22, 2006, 12:28:21 am Cheers Del, will give it a go.
Hi Rick, I have tried chopping crossing times around, doesn't make a great deal of difference, I have to be back on Monday morning so need a Sunday night crossing to be back in Newcastle at a reasonable time. Its getting harder to get down every year with work commitments and the wife still likes to nag me to death too. It would be cheaper to go down on Monday or Tuesday and make it a longer trip but the older I get the less I want to spent time in a tent ;D Nice to see that all has been well on the good ship Arnage during my absence, well, apart from the odd member throwing the teddy out!! A little OTT methinks. Roll on June ;) Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lorry on November 22, 2006, 11:06:47 am Wouldn't Dover Calais be as easy for the North, plus the boats seem to go every half an hour (But no sleep). Presumably you miss the end of the race to get back on Monday morning, as it must be about 16 hours door to door.
And can I rub it in. LD Lines, car and caravan £260 Bargain Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: MIKE C (Liverpool Boys) on November 27, 2006, 09:19:07 am Good news for me. My sister is not going to the TT's. I have changed my ferry bookings, now going out on Sunday 10th from Portsmouth. Back the 18th. Yesssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Lazy B'stard on November 27, 2006, 09:45:54 am just booked LD lines out on wed 13th, coming back via the tunnel on Sunday night as we don't want to miss the end of the race to catch the 5pm return. Much cheaper that Brittany Turpin but will be mega tired after 3 days at LM with no sleep and a 14 hour non stop drive home :-\

Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Brian(Liverpool boys) on November 27, 2006, 05:34:12 pm Rick, Mike's with us on the 2330 sailing.
Brian Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: rcutler on November 27, 2006, 06:04:00 pm OK, We are on the afternoon sailing and will stop over on the way down. It is cheaper for us to travel in the day then kip over in a lay by or the free motor home stopover point next to the ferry.
Hopefully we will not have the same problems pulling away as last year! Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: IanS on November 27, 2006, 08:01:38 pm I do not think you have left it too late with Brittany Ferries, prices keep changing. My advice is leave it a few days and try again you may find it drops again. They wanted £570 a few weeks back but managed to get it at £393 for a car and 4 berth cabin Pompey St Malo out Caen Pompey back. Booked on Saturday morning so keep checking as prices definately vary day to day

I just received this email from them; Shares in SpeedFerries Dear Customer, Many of our loyal customers have asked for shares in our Dover-Boulogne ferry company, but Speedferries is legally prevented from issuing shares save to certain categories of investor. We are accordingly up-dating our records to establish whether any of our customers fall within any of the following permitted categories of investor: (a) a high net worth individual; (b) a sophisticated investor; (c) a self certified sophisticated investor. If you fall within any of the above categories and would be interested in investing in ordinary shares of Speedferries, please reply to this e-mail by sending an email to shares@speedferries.com indicating which category you fall in. We will then be able to check with you your paperwork supporting your category. Please note that the minimum investment will be £50,000. A high net worth individual must have an annual income to the value of £100,000 or more or hold net assets to the value of £250,000 or more [excluding for these purposes the primary residence, any loans secured on the primary residence, and all pensions benefits] and sign a confirmatory certificate in the required format. A certified sophisticated investor is a person who has a current certificate in writing in the required format signed by a person authorised by the Financial Services Authority to the effect that he or she is sufficiently knowledgeable to understand the risks associated with investments in an unlisted company. A self-certified sophisticated investor is a person who is a member of a network or syndicate of business angels and has been for at least the last six months before the date of the certificate; or made more than one investment in an unlisted company in the two years before that date; or is working, or has worked in the two years before that date, in a professional capacity in the private equity sector, or in the provision of finance for small or medium enterprises; or is currently, or has been in the two years before that date, a director of a company with an annual turnover of at least £1 million. Kind regards Curt Stavis Chief Executive If I was one of the above, I wouldn't be paying £56 return to sail on Speedferries! Title: Re: Ferry booking Post by: Perdu on December 01, 2006, 09:58:00 pm Gary, you surprise me.
When Curt asked me who I thought would fit in the target zone I thought of you immediately. Young Sophisticated Thrusting Investor type. Self motivated multimillionaire, just describes you to a tee! Of course I declined Curt's offer myself, as you possibly may, since I am travelling with a rival company next year and did not want them to make me walk the plank half way across in the dark... Pompey is a far better drive for me than blarry Douvres tha' knows. I'll sitthee on t'seventh a nex' month, tara! ;) |
