Title: Jaguar to return
Post by: roeegg on October 03, 2006, 12:14:07 am
Just read Sunday Times "In Gear" on road test of the Jaguar XJR. Mention is made of it being raced  at "Internation Level" next year. Any other info. on this? Will it be GT1,GT2 or GT3?
There is also a track test of the rebuilt XJ 13 -back to memories of '66 and all that!

With Jaguar throwing money down the toilet at the speed it is I find it hard to believe that the Blue Oval would allow Jaguar to fund a racing effort... unless they see success on the track as a catalyst for creating success within the brand - let's hope so!

The other consideration would be the presence or otherwise of Aston Martin in the championship.  It would be unlikely that Ford would race two of their brands against each other in the same series.

Personally I would love to see the Big Cats back in international sports car racing.  They may have American parents but the name is so British I am sure it would bring even more people over the Channel for the great race.

Hmm, well having just found the article online, it does mention a possible return to LM as well as the International level reference  :D

Times OnLine Article (http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,12929-2381002,00.html)

Also has some linkys at the bottom for some Aston Reviews.

I quite like the look of this x-type too

Apex Motorsport announced they were going to develop the XKR for the FIA GT3 championship.

Story in full on DSC.

'Stuart Dyble, Jaguar Board Director and Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Premier Automotive Group and Ford of Europe, said, "We welcome this initiative which will result in production Jaguar sportscars being seen once again on race circuits across Europe. We are just launching the all-new Jaguar XKR road car and GT3 is the natural race series in which to compete. We wish Apex every success."'

I saw it announced on 10/10ths forum.

Interestingly Rollcentre announced that they will develop the Mosler for the GT3 championship and PSI are looking at developing the Ford GT for FIA GT3. Now considering there were 40+ cars at every round this year, I am starting to wonder where they are all going to go. Topping all that the GT3 Exiges running in Brit GT this year are destined for that championship too.

Oh and the x-type in Mr Invisibles photo is the Rocketsports Trans-am car if I'm not mistaken. It will certainly never see FIA/ACO rules racing ever.

Definitely '86, as Rhino & I have discussed a couple of times in the past.

This is the '87 version:

It was '86.  I was with Del at the time.In fact  the only time Ihave stayed to see the  finish of the race.
Pity that the intention is not yet to to develop the XKR into a GT2 contender to take on the F430

Nice pic FS, I remember you and my grandpa talking about how things had come on since you were young and the times, and hardships, you had had as young boys.  ;D

I worked for Jaguar at the X type plant ,we built and shipped some panels for a race programme then suddenly we were told to stop shipping that was 2004, now  x type production is so low it is in danger of stopping

I have heard rumours that the FIA world council have rejected the GT3 Mosler after lobbying from other manufacturers.  Can anybody here confirm this?

I heard that as well, am waiting for it be officially confirmed. The homolagtion has only been refused for the FIA GT3 Championship the car is still likely to be eligible for national championships i.e. Brit GT

Apparently Mosler doesn't produce the 200 cars per annum they need to be homolagted. An exception was made for the Ascari, but the powers that be under direction from the other manufacturers already homolgated Mosler got the thumbs down. A big shame and Shorty will be gutted if its true.

A picture of the actual car rather than a mockup. It was unveiled at the Autosport show on Friday.

Maybe another software glitch - having hit the button for a URL, I didn't get any text with the usual [url][url] to past one into, but it seems to have recgnised it as one....spooky

Ahh the marvellous quirks of software.  Either that or it recognises you (rightly) as someone to be nice to.  I don't pretend to understand it and when all else fails, hitting everything in sight to try to re-arrange the lights, switches, bells and knobs into an eye-catching, pleasing pattern is the only option remaining to me.......

Indeed it seems to be so - I can imagine our erstwhile mods etc currently in "fix it" mode going "ow sh*t" every few seconds as they bump into myriad hidden tree roots and low branches.  'Ere be dragons and all that.  Nevertheless, they seem to be well alive to it all and working away furiously behind the scenes to rectify things (we do need to make them feel valued and wanted.....)
