Title: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 14, 2006, 05:04:51 pm All,
I shall be cycling to work on Friday this week (18th Aug) to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and a looking for sponsorship. As some of you are aware I live in Newbury Berkshire and work in Central London. I will cover the 70mile (100Km) ride and do the whole days work aswell. I shall leave home at 3am hoping to arrive at the office for 7.30am. BTW. I do not know the roads around London or on the way AND I hate cycling in cities! Hopefully I can raise more money then the rest of my departement on their weight loss challenge (£250) ;D If you are able to sponsor me please visit:- http://www.justgiving.com/ShowWeCare Alternatively I will be at Donnington to collect money. Many Thanks. Rick. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Andy Zarse on August 14, 2006, 05:26:41 pm Madness!! Can't you take the train to Paddington and then pretend you cycled when you get to the office panting and covered in filth.
Rick, put up a justgiving.com link and you should get a better response. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Piglet on August 14, 2006, 05:54:38 pm Nutter ;D

Work have joked about that!!! Just Giving account has been set up. Thanks Andy for the advice. Please donate at:- http://www.justgiving.com/ShowWeCare Thanks. Rick. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Fran on August 14, 2006, 09:48:14 pm Blimey - respect to you Rick. On Saturday I decided to take my "new" bike for a lil run along the local cycleway. Was knackered before I got to the end of my street, and only managed 2 miles on the cycleway before turning around n heading home again! I now realise that 6 days per annum commuting between Bleu and the hospitality of MB doesnt make much of a training schedule.
I cant remember, is there a tax advantage to donating online rather than giving you the cash? F Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Snoring Rhino on August 14, 2006, 11:32:07 pm Good one Rick, perhaps you should wear a pair of steel toe capped boots instead of your clips, that way you can show you appriecation for being cut up.
Yes Fran, a £10 gets an extra £2.82 with the tax bonus. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: smokie on August 15, 2006, 12:40:12 am I now realise that 6 days per annum commuting between Bleu and the hospitality of MB doesnt make much of a training schedule. My MB buddie Mark's wife booked a family cycling holiday in the Netherlands for their main gig last year. His training consisted solely of too much whisky, too many fags, and 6 times a day (if he was lucky) round the clump of trees in MB... He didn't last well lin Holland! :D Good on yer Rick... Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Paddy_NL on August 15, 2006, 12:43:22 am Yes Fran, a £10 gets an extra £2.82 with the tax bonus. Not for people donating from abroad, unfortunately :-\Alternatively I will be at Donnington to collect money. Sounds good, will do so :)Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: TonyT on August 15, 2006, 02:19:26 pm Rick,
Why not give the £250 yourself and save on the pain. It will be worth it. Tony Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Mr. Rick on August 15, 2006, 05:39:45 pm Love the graphic on the Just Giving page!! Makes it look like you are getting some wind assistance!!
;D Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: keithk on August 15, 2006, 05:42:00 pm Ok Rick like me you’re a "little" over your racing weight but 100km should be just a warm up, don’t get me wrong I think it's great you doing the ride. What sort of time? I would think about 3.5 hours was reasonable but I don’t know the profile of the route.
My fastest for the round the Isle of Wight Time trial (which I won 3 years in a row) which is hilly was 3hours 8 minutes. You were in your time a much better climber than me and you are or were a record holder if I remember correctly, but weight and age have caught up with me and I’m about 25 kg over my best racing weight…. All the best and we should get out on the bikes next year in France if we have the chance how about a one lap ride around the full circuit? Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Mr. Rick on August 16, 2006, 04:03:48 pm Well I think we should do 3 laps of the circuit and call it the 24 miles of Le Mans! We could use all the existing public road then take the old track through Maison Blanche and up past the grandstands, under the bypass and turn right then turn right again at Carrefour Street and then rejoin at Tertre Rouge!
;D Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 16, 2006, 04:26:53 pm Well I think we should do 3 laps of the circuit and call it the 24 miles of Le Mans! Using all track would be good but I don't think the ACO will allow. Good luck for Friday Rick - I still think you're a nutter for doing it! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 17, 2006, 10:30:20 pm OK Last post before the off! Thanks to all those who have sponsored me, there is still time if you haven't.
I shall ride all the way on the A4 as it does have streetlights and is wider than the B-Roads. Easier to navigate too. Will logon tomorrow at work and let you all know how it went! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Bob U on August 17, 2006, 10:32:50 pm Rick, I havn't logged on to justgiving but you can put me down for a
tenner. I will cough up at Donney Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Snoring Rhino on August 17, 2006, 11:35:49 pm Well done mate, dont let the tarmac bite 8)
Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Piglet on August 18, 2006, 08:24:05 am Blimey Rick, I hope you didn't have the storm that we had at 5am this morning ;D Hope you made it OK, let us know how you got on
Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 18, 2006, 09:34:31 am Hello All, I have made it to London!
Witnessed two not so fortunate cyclists on my way into London. A stark reminder how dangerous our roads are. The weather was YES APPAULING! That storm hit just as I got to Reading and relented as I approached Hammersmith. Soaking wet when I arrived. Recieved a Thankyou letter from Great Ormond Street today in the post which was nice. Thanks once again to all of you who sponsored me. Rick. (Photo's to Follow) Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Piglet on August 18, 2006, 09:38:12 am Well done Rick ;D Did you get some thunder and lightening to help you on your way?
I hope the other cyclists you refer to are OK and that you manage to get dry! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: fagey on August 18, 2006, 09:46:23 am well done Rick.. you must be mad tho :o wheels and no engine ;D
Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Bob U on August 18, 2006, 09:48:08 am Well done Rick.
I thought of you at 5:00 this morning when it was pissing down but then I turned over and went back to sleep. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: keithk on August 18, 2006, 12:40:36 pm Great stuff I'll go and dust off the bike later, Piglet is insisting we go for a short ride tomorrow.
When I worked at Cheswick we had a secretary who cycled to and from the Chelfonts each day. She looked a little damp on occasions.... But very well done and we must try to get the bikes out for Le Mans, I’ve taken mine for the last two years and spend the week after preQual riding each day and yes I did get pulled for exceeding the speed limit in Arnage, the nice police chappy said I was a danger to the public and should ride in the road not the cycle ways… ;) Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Andy Zarse on August 18, 2006, 02:24:42 pm I got terrible chalfonts from cycling, they made me damp too, so had to give it up.
BTW Rick, I heard about the incident this morning and I did wonder. Well done! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Fran on August 18, 2006, 09:28:52 pm Well done Rick. Did you cycle home too?!!
;D Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 18, 2006, 10:03:09 pm Cycled from Farringdon to Paddington 3 miles then, Cycled from the station to Home 3 more miles.
Cycling in London scared the cr*p out of me! Especially when I saw the two cyclists being "Bagged Up" :'( I will certainly not ride my racing bike into London again. It is just to fast and fragile for the poor surfaces. Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Mr. Rick on August 18, 2006, 11:19:19 pm Jolly good show Rick! Well done mate!
;D Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: nopanic - neil on August 18, 2006, 11:28:45 pm well done, I know London is hard work.
But that is a hell of a bike lock chain that guy is carring! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: rcutler on August 18, 2006, 11:34:04 pm That is a Kryptonite New York Lock they will pay out £10,000 if you can bust a link or the lock!
As my bike is worth in the region of £6,000 I want to ensure no thieving pikies can get their hands on it! He was wearing like BA in one of the other shots but the focus was way out! Title: Re: Sponsored Ride Post by: Bobblehat on August 19, 2006, 01:31:33 am Top ride! Thats all I can say...........me bike = pain..............£10 ......well done mate
