Title: Yeah Jenson!!!

I know we don't really "do" F1 on here, but way to go Jens!    ;D ;D

brilliant race and a brilliant first win for our Jenson ;D ;D ;D

do you think he could be encouraged out for the 24

I reckon so FS, give him a few years!!

Jens was one of my "boys" when I was involved in F3 a few years ago and is a nice guy.  We've got a bottle of Bollinger open in his honour  ;D

I though Ant Davidson did a good job on the commentary as well.

My sisters favourite the German chap demonstrated exactly why sometimes you need to play a bit fairer  ;D

Awsome Jenson!!!

Any chance he can appear on Top Gear to tonight to put JC right?

Black flag should have been out for a certain Red Car. But the forces of nature took that decision into its own hands. Why was he racing on illegal tires and allowed to get away with it.

Who claims that he was driving on illegal tyres? Didn't even here that accusation of the Dutch commenter, who is always very keen on such things.

They were not illegal as such just he had run them soo long that the FIA should have interviened on safety grounds as his car was looking like a handful to drive.

where's all this should have and must do come from?, half the F1 cars would be "Pulled" if they looked a handful to drive.

Leave the racing to those that know Rick. ;D

That was the best F1 race I have seen in a long time. The circuit looks great, too. Great result for Jenson and Honda, congratulations ! The look of his face and his cheer to the team after the race was speeking books. I hope it goes on like this. This really looked like F1.

Hooray for the rain, which to be fair made it all possible and of course do not forget a wheel bolt which did not go on to someones right rear tire and the red scarlatan finally bumping into someone else car a tad to hard. Good win for Jens though, he deserves it, if the other 5 races are anything like this one, then I think F1 could get interesting again :-X

A tepid 1664 says it'll all be back to normal in Turkey.

Not  bad circuit for a modern place though.

the late good news is that Mr Schumacher has been awarded a single racing point, this now means that the title battle is down to ten points!!

This is because Robert Kubica has been disqualified from 7th place due to his racing car being 2kg under the minimum weight due to excessive tyre wear.

Roll on Turkey, we'll need a TV at Donny to keep track of the race!!

Failing that Del, we can sit down and watch it at The Redgate and have a few beers at the same time, got a feeling it will be lashing down ;)

Thats a damn shame, because i thought Kubica drove a great race for his first GP.

Good one Jens.

Here's a post I made elsewhere on Saturday after the qually.

"Am I alone in wondering if there is something fishy about the way F1 works sometimes?

There's been more criticism of boring races recently. Schuie is catching Alonso for the title. Alonso behaves like an absolute idiot with a near-rookie driver when he really must know better, and gets a two second penalty.

This leaves the door open for Schuie to catch right up on points in a drawn out procession (as the track is "difficult to overtake on").

But no-one wants yet another boring procession.

So Schuie makes the mistake a new driver might make and overtakes two or three cars under waved reds.

Thus balancimg the penalties and making for at least some excitement.

Is this not a similar but maybe more subtle alternative to the yellow flags which traditionally come out towards the end of most American motor racing?

I would suggest that it would not be in Ferrari's (or any of the main teams) interest for further criticism and disinterest from the paying public so maybe either one of both of these events may have been deliberate to sustain some interest. Both teams involved are well enough funded to not be too bothered about missing out on a few tens of thou prize money - if they do.

Or am I just naturally suspicious?"

...and the post race followup I posted yesterday...

"Anyone see little Bernie interviewed before the race? He was asked about Alonso and said much the same as me and then he said.."and then Michael went and helped us out too"...

My conspiracy theories are going wild now, in the light of them both not finishing,.... "

With all due respect to our Moderator in Chief:

Codswallop!   ;D

P.S.  Does that count as reasoned debate?

P.P.S.  Also, the best way to create some excitement would have been for only Alonso to have been out of the points so Schuey could catch up.

How does he get a point when he DNF?

He did finish, Kubica’s disqualification is an unexpected bonus for Ferrari, promoting Felipe Massa to seventh and handing the final point to Michael Schumacher.

The seven-time world champion was provisionally classified ninth despite retiring with three laps remaining after a collision with the other BMW of Nick Heidfeld.

Just pure symmetry, shame he didn't stay on the track and finish 2nd, never mind Donny weekend should be marvellous when the next race is in Turkey.  hope the fuel is there?

I'm not sure about the DNF point, presumably he did enough to be a classified finisher but I though he'd gone out before then but presumably not.....

This amused me though...it's lifted from the BBC web site

"Alonso's retirement set the stage for Schumacher to cut the 11-point gap at the top of the drivers' standings, but his heavily worn tyres saw him lose second and then third places before he too stopped"

Nothing to do with driving like a nob then?   ::)

According to the BBC this was Honda's first constructors win since 1967 - Mr Honda must be VERY pleased with our Jens today!

Mr Schuie, doesn't share your view Anita!

"Of course, I am very disappointed. We had a great opportunity but we did not take it. All weekend and especially the race was something of a rollercoaster and in the end, we found ourselves back where we started, although with one less race to go. The track rod broke as Heidfeld went past. We touched, partly because the track was still a bit slippery. These things happen. Did we take a risk staying out on track with intermediate tyres and in the fight with my rivals? That's the way I am. I always want to fight for the top which is why I have won so often. There are still five races to go. Nothing is yet lost and I will give it my all in trying to win the title."

LOl!!  I notice he doesn't mention De la Rosa?    As far as I could see if he'd let DLR through sensibly then he'd have given himself a chance of keeping ahead of Heidfeld and then wouldn't have been fighting for the same piece of track.

Blimey I can't believe we're discussing a F1 race on here!  ;D

My sister is a Schumy fan and tends to text me whenever he's doing well - her last text yesterday afternoon was "I just don't want to talk about it - ok."

Not that she's a bad loser or anything  ;D

Well done to Mr. Button though.

A terrific race indeed, although we seem to be blessed with one good race per season when things don't go according to plan. It does go to show what we are missing these days though. It also illustrates the genius and the idiot within Old Spoonface. From 1th to fifth after the first corner, pure genius! Trying to do a "Damon Hill" on Heidfeld, what an idiot. He should have been black flagged for a drive through instantly. Well don Button, but I really could have done without THE COCK James Allen screaming like a schoolboy at the end.

Just watched last nights highlights and what a cracking race it was. Perhaps all F1 should be wet weather races. A good leveller and lots of overtaking. Well done Jenson. Beat them fair and square.

i am sure it would be more interesting if the season was over the winter months and not the summer.

Congrats to jenson butthole!!

Yes,
Well done Mr Button, although It had a lot to do with all the front runners falling off the track.

Not quite the same as Murray when Damon won the world championship.

Firstly - Well done Jenson and Honda.
Secondly - What a great race.
Thirdly - (echoing Andy's comment) Look what happens when things don't go according to plan.

For the first time in it's 20 year history we had a wet Hungarian GP and it couldn't have been more different to the usual procession it is when the sun is out.  The Hungaroring will usually dish up the kind of dross we bitch about every other Sunday evening / Monday morning, but look at us all now waxing lyrical about how great it was.

Personally I am a huge fan of the circuit.  Not because of the great races it gives us (obviously), but because having attended 3 GP there during the Hakkinen / Schumacher era the atmosphere and comeraderie between the Finns and the Germans couldn't have been more fun and more friendly.  It was truly a fun place to spend a weekend.  Such a shame the grandstands weren't full yesterday!

One final point - can someone please gag James Allen?  Sundays are supposed to be days of rest, not ones where you nearly fall off the sofa whilst trying to find the tv remote to avoid being deafened by a prize prick.

...been following the F1 criticism about being boring and do mostly agree. What I don`t quite agree with is the criticism of Schumacher. He`s a racer, he`s paid to race and that is what he was doing till his last lap. Looking back on the situation it`s quite easy to say that he should of laid back and let De la Rosa and Heidfeld pass him and secured the "almost" sure points, "almost" sure because we will never really know what could of happened since that is not the course Schumacher decided on. But then again, that would of been boring. Not a big F1 or Spoonface fan but imho I think what happened in those last few laps was quite exciting and hopefully will continue for the last few races. And of course congats to Jason Button, a long overdue win for him and the Honda team.

Agreed.

"I am going to have to stop now because I have a lump in my throat" could be on Murray's headstone.

Likewise "There's some people on the pitch" etc could be on Kenneth Wolstenholme's

James Allen's headstone, "Yyeeeaaaaaggghhhh get in there".   Hhhmmmm ! there's a thought
