Title: Flying the Union Flag the correct way up. (2006)
Post by: Lawnmower Man on June 10, 2006, 06:22:04 pm
Should have started this thread earlier or searched out the old one.

Since so many will be flying the Flag next weekend I thought a timely reminder was in order.

As you should know there is a correct way up for the Union Flag.

The correct way  is with the wider diagonal white stripe above the red diagonal strip in the half nearest to the flag pole.

It sould also be flown the the superiour position.

The Union flag must always be flown in a superior position ie:

The highest flagpole
The centre flag pole where there is an odd number of poles of the same height
The left centre flag pole viewed from the front of the building, where there is an even number of the same height.

Flying the Flag incorrectly is a beer buying offence in Le Mans.
However, this year I think a domation to Doris's cancer Charity is in order.

Doris's how about making up some cards giving the URL www.justgiving.com/doris (http://www.justgiving.com/doris)

Thank for posting that FS.
So much history,   8)

I wonder some times if we should fly national flags (I.E. St. Georges Cross) at Motor Races.  After in Motor Sport Drivers, Teams and Races are British.   Dingger used to have the Union Flag next to his name on hte Car.  Teams like Aston Martin have the Union Flag next to the name over the Garage.

Yes, I know what you mean, there is always a lot of debate especially when there are large sporting occasions and the pros and cons are always brought out.

My personal feeling is fly the Union flag/jack, the UK has a very proud history, sure there will always instances but in the main a proud history and tradition.

irrespective which flag is flown/used there is always some bloody numpty screaming at you out of the TV set.

Lets have a rousing chorus of Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

Isn't that some rousing song is strongly associated with English Rugby?     ;D
If you are gonna go British...  then do it right.

I'll leave my Saltire at home, and buy a Union flag  specially
Although the rest of my team are bringing USA and England flags.

Hmm..  Does that make us an Al Qaeda target?

Maybe Flea Bay has some Swiss flags going cheap  :-)

Yep it depends on what you are flying the flag for.

Personally,  I fly the flag at Le Mans to support the race.   (After all it is a British Motor race.  ;D )

We have land of hope and glory on CD to play this year. My sister went and bought it, for the annual bad cd contest - which she always wins...

Flying the flag the wrong way up is a particular bug bear of Ian L'pool boys always remember my first year at le mans when we were wandering around and he was telling everyone there flags were the wrong way up
