Title: Chili!
Post by: Rob on June 05, 2006, 11:49:43 am
Team 24hourlemons.co.uk will be hosting a chili night on thursday 14th June on maison blanche, and all are invited to attend. the chili will be cooked and prepared by myself, dan lowe and tink, and will be located within the 'platinum' triangle by the Cutler's motorhome between team JPC and DfH

a similar smaller event was trialled last year within team 24hourlemons.co.uk and was a huge hit, so an event on a grander scale was decided.

Is this proper, eating chilli (i.e. we are all invited round for dinner) or is this like The Brethren's Chili Challange which will take place on Friday night?

On that same night, we at DfH have Alex Yoong Saté Night. I will prepare nasi goreng and chicken saté, Malaysian style. So it looks like together we can offer some variety. And a queue at the toilets.

Cheers for that I think we will struggle to feed the 5 thousand!!! We may be able to cook for between 20 and 30 people in Man sized portions!
Would be good if we can sort this out together as it would be nice to have lots of CA members over. Cold food will be easy for us to prepare but Chilli for more than 30 portions is a challenge!

C'mon Rick man of you kaliber and equipment resources, a simple chilli, a few dips, salsa, guacamole autentico, bushel of rice, easy peasy, a few gallons of Cerveza Dos Equis beer, maybe some cantina ladies, and you will be away, just wish i could be there to see it.

Sounds the perfect evening.  FS

Cooking the stuff is not the problem, its getting the giant pans (vats) which will be big enough for 30 chilli and 30 rice.

Ordinary preserving pans are big enough to do chilli for 30, no lids but you can cover the tops in foil.

Ahh we may be able to assist in the cooking pot department - we have a large stock pot (which we pack our camping gaz cylinder inside) can't remember the size of it and Keith has it out there already but it's big and it has a lid  ;D

Wednesday is the traditional MOOSE Gathering at the Tetre Rouge Stella Bar. 9pm which is the break in on track activities. All are welcome for a reassuringly expensive Stella.

Rob,
Rick is very kindly transporting our big preserving pot down along with a big collinder, would need it back in servicable contition for Friday night though, have promissed our group (24 of us) a good curry. I have also found a heat disperser, you put it in between the gas and pot and it helps to stop the bottom burning.

That'll be handy after the Chilli Challenge.  ;D

After all the Chillies, Curries and other substanse abuse a good stock of frozen bog paper will be greatly appreieciated I think. I also think that we will need to stand in a big circle at the POO bar just to ensure none of us are down wind of each other  :P

Same goes for our nasi/sate, as far as I know it was planned as our group dinner, and not as a 'feed-the-world'.  :-\

You're right LangTall, I thought this topic only concerned those who are camping in the triangle. Maybe some of us prefer chili over nasi and vice versa. At others: we just don't think we have enough for all of you guys, but please feel free to check in later for leftovers. Which I'm sure somewhere can be found. ;)

at the moment, i am thinking we'll need 2 main(huge) pots, one for rice and one for chili, if piglet and snoring rhino come through with theirs, then we should be sorted.

and as far as the chili night is going (this is for the benefit of rick, so that he doesnt have too big a heart attack ;)) it will be on a first come first served basis and we will cook as much as we can (i apologise now if anyone misses out ;))

I thought that it was extremely tasty last year, helped with the tax collecting bit...I did wonder, though why the 'Poo Bars' were sooo popular the following morning. There is always a plus side for getiting a 'blank canvas to paint on' (empty tank for more refreshment!).
Bring on 'Stella' I'm sure we've been missed!
