Title: Another can I buy thread.......
Post by: Piglet on June 04, 2006, 12:52:39 pm
Perhaps another for Ms Termite!

I'm sure I've bought soya milk in France previously but Keith says he can't find any in the (small) supermarket that he's been to.

Is it possibly only the bigger supermarkets that sell it or should I plan to bring some out with me?

Beer is the only legit drink there.  It works on Corn Flakes too. ;D ;D

The French are not big on the health food thing or take into account that folks might even be allergic to cows milk (or cows anything!)

I think the only places I have seen it is in of all places the pharmacy. I think you mentioned that Keith is still there so get him to check out a biggish pharmacy - they will have an answer on where to get it if nothing else - they don't tend to do the old shoulder shrug and that face.

If I can think of anything else then I will let you know.

See you soon

OK, cheers Lisa, I think I'll make sure that I throw some in the car before I leave at least then we don't have to faff around looking for it.

Thanks again - in a week we'll be there!!   ;D

Just thought also -  the likes of Super U etc has a 'special diet' isle which should have it - it's usually near the beer isle strangelt enough ???

BTW lol at the beer suggestions - beer is great as an ingrediant to make a batter for fish, however - perhaps I ought to suggest this to Felix just in case he happens to make it this year ;)

If all else fails - I am arriving later than you so you can call me if you need some more supplies I will PM you my number.

Thanks Lisa, I did suggest to him that he needed to look other than with "normal" milk and that I thought that the French like the Germans still have "funny food" in one place.  He's going to go and have another look once pre-qual is done - I think he's only been to a fairly small Super U.

Beer in batter I can imagine, but I'm not sure about beer in crepes and waffles!!

We'll stick with crepes and fruit flambed in calvados... ;D (and drink the beer separately!)

t,

Tom, you don't what you're are talking about, soya, rice and oat milk are just yummy, making the morning porridge oats without them wouldn't be the same.

Just to hijack for a moment.

Is the disposable barbecue available in France, or should I stock up here? - We're a <little> tight on space, if I can get some over there, that'd be better.

Cheers

Two years ago when we tried to buy disposable BBQ's on the Friday morning there were none anywhere and we had to buy a 40 dingbat BBQ instead.   Last year we found them on the Monday (but bought a 40 dingbat BBQ anyway!) so.....I think the answer is it depends when you're likely to be shopping!

Keith has bought what he reckons is a pretty good BBQ from Carrefour for 15 dingbats today, they've got lots of 40 dingbat ones - personally if you're there for a few days I'd stump up for a proper bbq and charcoal and leave it for the pikeys - the disposable ones are a bit crap really!
