Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Mr Toad on June 01, 2006, 06:41:43 pm Hope I won't be accused of blowing the Beermountain trumpet - but I'll at least I'll let you know we have a trumpet - the ACO have asked "The Wild Choppers" to take part in the drivers parade this year. ;D
I have a special manoevre which we will perform if we see any CA shirts on our tour round the town. If we look like we need emergency rehydration your help appreciated! On behalf of the squadron, we hope to see all our "old" CA friends (and any new ones) - only 10 days time! Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Bob U on June 01, 2006, 06:59:08 pm Congratulations Mr Toad I look forward to seeing your performance.
Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Steve Pyro on June 01, 2006, 07:02:08 pm Good news Mr T.
We generally drive into town to view the parade, but the organisation and timing is a bit tardy and there are often long breaks between passing 'attractions'. We'll spend the slack time getting 'refreshed'. Smoke canisters this time? Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Mr Toad on June 01, 2006, 07:06:41 pm Yes - the smoke has come from a special forces supplier in Finland I believe - red, white and blue - so our schncro pair will need to parctice harder than last time.
No sure if it will be smoke "on" in the parade - depends who is behind us! Plus if its slow we will just become a big cloud and no one will see us - possibly for the better... Will practice on MB on Thu pm, and pop by all at CA we know! Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Chris24 on June 01, 2006, 07:08:22 pm Hope I won't be accused of blowing the Beermountain trumpet - but I'll at least I'll let you know we have a trumpet - the ACO have asked "The Wild Choppers" to take part in the drivers parade this year. ;D Does this mean that you have an official pass to get into the parade assembly area ?I have a special manoevre which we will perform if we see any CA shirts on our tour round the town. If we look like we need emergency rehydration your help appreciated! On behalf of the squadron, we hope to see all our "old" CA friends (and any new ones) - only 10 days time! If so is it scanable and could it be easily reproduced on a PC printer as getting drivers autographs in that area is what I enjoy the most about my Le Mans trip, but they are making jumping the fences harder every year. Any help appreciated Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Mr Toad on June 01, 2006, 07:14:54 pm My people are talking with their people at present - I asked this question on my list of things to find out about something I know nothing about..I guess we will need this to be able to form up in the parade area? Plus we have to deliver the bikes in our new BM Command Vehicle...quite a machine in its own right!
Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Chris24 on June 01, 2006, 07:18:32 pm Mr Toad, If you could obtain a few extra passes, I and a friend would be very greatful as we really enjoy chatting with the drivers and collecting the autograph cards for our collections. We would repay the favour with a crate of your choice of beer for your mountain.

H So where is this shooting range then... is this something put on by the Greek contingency? >Martini... Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Barry on June 01, 2006, 08:44:25 pm Congratulations Mr Toad, I am sure that the sight of a British squadron at Le Mans will bring a tear to the eye of many an old Frenchie in the crowd. If we see Jerry running away we will know that you are near!
Dambusters or 633 Squadron soundtrack though? Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: wishy on June 01, 2006, 08:49:29 pm Fantastic news Mr.T
We saw your formation enter the pits on Friday morning last year an thought it was brilliant. Congratulations on your forthcoming appointment with the true royalty of LM ;D We will watch your practice session with admiration on MB on Thursday!!!!! Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Truckosaurus on June 01, 2006, 09:21:49 pm Looking at the map, does this mean that the route doesn't go into the Place de la Republique at all now?
(ps. LOL@ Rue de Bolton) Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Steve Pyro on June 01, 2006, 09:28:57 pm Looking at the map, does this mean that the route doesn't go into the Place de la Republique at all now? It certainly looks that way. It's a different route to previous years to be sure. Quote (ps. LOL@ Rue de Bolton) Bolton is twinned with Le Mans. http://www.bolton.gov.uk/pls/portal92/docs/6369.HTML Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: rcutler on June 01, 2006, 10:02:27 pm does anyone have a picture of the old route, so i can see if our favorite bar is still on it!

GAB ps, how`s the "power" situation this year ??? Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Canada Phil on June 02, 2006, 06:58:05 am Congratulations Mr Toad and the Squadron. You will need to conserve your energy for the Rue W Wright as it is a steep hill.
Not long now Canada Phil Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Bob U on June 02, 2006, 09:58:29 am Mr Toad, as there is a large contingant of CAers camping on Houx Annexe would it be in order to request a fly past for sometime on Friday morning?
I am sure a refueling stop would be arranged for the squadron. Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: jpchenet on June 02, 2006, 10:19:48 am Excellent news Toady!!! :)
And who said the ACO don't have a sense of humour or are not in touch with the real fans? ;) Good on them!! Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Andy Zarse on June 02, 2006, 10:59:25 am Top hole Toad!! See you and the chaps on MB in two weeks time.
Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Mr Toad on June 02, 2006, 01:35:53 pm Thanks all. Plan to depart MB at 12.00, fly once or twice round MB whilst we trim the kites out, then set the compass for the village. Lunch after a trip to see how the Beermountain Racing MG is looking in the classic pit, then back to MB c15.00 to recover prior to the parade in town.
Phil -I had imagined it all to be flat, so might have to get off and walk up any hills! Beginning to worry...how far do you think it is in distance - somneone told me it was 3km... Probably won't have stamina for a Houx trip this year, but who knows where a couple of beers will take us - especially if its not too hot! But village on Fri is definate (ACO have even provided a pass for the jeep!) GAB - power sorted via one of your usual trackside neighbours this year! Are you on MB as normal? Please all pop by for a beer - I'll fly round to say hello to all I know on MB. Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Ferrari Spider on June 02, 2006, 01:47:04 pm Mr Toad, just wondering what your alternate aerodrome is, in case of inclement weather; like low dense fog/smoke from BBQ'd turkeys flambeed in LOX ;D
Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Paddy_NL on June 02, 2006, 01:59:13 pm great going, Mr T! ;D
Title: Re: Friday - Driver's Parade - web site and route Post by: Mr Toad on June 04, 2006, 03:20:11 pm Just learned we are at the back of the parade, so smoke will be armed and ready to go! No more info on passes into the formation/driver area, but I think we are getting them down there...apparently we can bring the jeep in the parade, and will also use the new BM command unit to transport the machines in to town
See you all next weekend!
