Saab 900 T16S (K plate)

Try again!

Rover 110 (big old tank - underage and unlicensed)
Fiat 500 (old style soft top with 2 latches for hitting your head on)
Vauxhall Viva (first crash)
Fiat 1500 (old model with column shift and odd accelerator pedal)
Vauxhall Chevette x 2
Triumph Spitfire x 2 (yes you can make the same mistake twice)
Ford Escort Harrier
Triumph Spitfire (will i never learn! - pushed further than it drove)
Ford Escort 1600 sport (second crash)
Ford Fairlane 5.5 litre (2 mpg but went sideways v nicely thanks)
Ford Granada 2.8 xi Ghia (better car than my boss at the time)
Vauxhall Astra GTE
XR3i Cabriolet (in my defence this was a company car)
Vauxhall Astra GTE (company car again, with the snazzy digital speedo)
Vauxhall Astra Jubilee (an attempt to reduce my motoring costs!)
Toyota MR2  :-* *
Toyota Corolla (reducing my insurance costs in Manchester!!)

* MR2 was my favourite, bought on impulse one Friday afternoon when I got off work early! (damn instant credit), kept for over a decade and made 9 trips to Le Mans - in fact it was a flyer put on my windscreen by someone from MR2 Drivers Club that got me to LM for the first time - never travelled with the club again after first time tho cos they started camping off circuit!!

Hopefully not a totally disgraceful list - for a girl!

Fran

P.S.   My wishlist thoughout (since about age 12!!) has always been one of the beefier models of Marcos - actual model changed over the years as new ones come out - dont ask why Marcos tho!!

First car - Vauxhall Viva (HB), also the car in which I had my first crash. (I spot a theme there somewhere Fran ;))
Mini 1000
Triumph Herald
Triumph Spitfire Mk III - my god what an evil handling car!
Austin Allegro - in gloss primer grey, still it provided transport (just). Oh! the shame.....
Renault 16TX - a pretty radical car for it's time but the electrics were truly f*cking awful!
Ford Escort 1300GT (fitted with 1600 engine and other mods)
Triumph Dolomite Sprint - fun but flawed, especially when tuned, as it was to ever improbable power outputs. Eventually succumbed to the dreaded head warping and bolt seizure problems, followed by:
VW Polo
Peugeot 205
Peugeot 205 XS
Peugeot 309GTI
Prodrive Subaru Impreza - probably the most practical performance car ever, until the Chavs made it unbearably uncool :(
Nissan 350Z (current car) - my excuse for a mid life crisis, and no, I'm not ashamed...

There have been a couple of company cars in between the last 3 but too forgettable to mention.

I had forgotten also what a Skoda freak Wishy was when those cars were truly cr*p. Thanks for reminding me Wishy  :)

Ok, not owned but I have driven one of these, or a similar one built by Dennis when I was about 14 and in the air cadets. It was great fun driving it at 90 mph down the main runway at BAe Warton, where I happen to now work.  Sadly I don't get to drive it though now, but then again I don't have to put out blaizing fires either.

Rover 2000 TC
Morris Ital 1.3 (Oh the shame, but I was given it)
Ford Sierra 1.8GL
Ford XR3i
Ford Sierra 2.0 GLX
Peugeot 405 GRDT estate - before people had diesels
Ford Galaxy - before people had MPVs, and a bit big for the 3 of us
Westfield SP (2nd car)
Ford Granada - out of the company car scheme
Peugeot 406 16v

What a strange mix

Vauxhall Viva HB (first crash and first two speeding tickets)

The Defender is definatley the best motor I've every owned, closely followed by the Pontiac and the 928 was stonking. I wish I still had the Cooper tho....sigh. I don't know what the f**k  I was thinking with the Freelander, I was splitting up with the wife at the time so that may explain my confusion.

Seems to be quite a high number of Vivas.

My first car was a 1971 Viva HC, got it to an indicated 100mph , twice !

Downhill of course, brakes weren't up to much though so carefull use was required before the bends approached.

I also had a 79 Dolomite sprint, somewhat prone to head damage though.

Then followed by a White Sierra 1.8 (wouldn't start after it was washed !)

Renault 5  1.4 TSE - great little car but didn't like snow (or starting after 134000 miles).

E28 BMW 528i - Nice car but liked snow even less than the R5.

Toyota Carina e 1.6 hatchback -  practical but "tinny"

Currently VW Passat estate - practical and reliable

Next car -  BMW M5 (someday) (but don't tell Mrs Redstu).

1990 Astra Van from Dad's work (wrote it off after 3 weeks)
1990 Mum's Escort 1.6i Ghia (very, very heavy)
1990 Volkswagen Golf 1.1N (L was the most basic but I believe the N came below it!!!)
1993 Renault Clio 1.4CL (Lots of fun in this including 8 people up after England beat Spain on penalties in Euro '96)
1997 Some sort of sh*t cavalier saloon
1998 Slightly better Cavalier 2.0GL hatchback
1999 Honda Civic 1.4 (work car)

Basically a RHD NAS90 if I'm correct?  How do you find the fuel consumption in this age of the £1 litre, or have you changed to LPG?

I'm not to sure about that, I think the NAS was a 3.5 V8, this one is the 4litre with the 4 speed auto.
As I only do 3000 miles a year in it I hardly notice the 12-14mpg but with only a 57litre fuel I do spend a lot of time in the filling stations. I did notice it cost me £50 to fill her up the other day which was a first, when I bought her new in 99 a fill up would cost well under £35. I'm glad Mr. Brown is spending all that extra cash wisely >:(

I take it it had a sun roof for you to put your head through?  ;)
The damn thing indeed had a sunroof. ;D But I preferred hanging backwarts with the chair instead of sticking my head through the roof. ;) That would have been way to cold in the winter....

Okeydoke, my two pence-worth..... (in order of ownership):

1977 Ford Cortina Mk IV 1.6
1969 MGB Roadster  :)
1975 Mini Clubman Estate
1972 Ford Cortina Mk III 2.0 GTS
(Multitude of Transit vans, minibuses at this point)
1986 Ford Fiesta XR2 hairdresser-mobile (co. car honest!)
1988 Renault 5 1.4 GTS (plus various co. vans as I co-owned a courier co. in London!)
1964 Mini (project car and registered the same week I was born!!)
1988 Renault 5 Turbo  ;D
1989 VW Golf 'Driver'
1989 VW Golf Diesel
1986 Fiat Strada 105TC
1988 Metro GTA
1997 Rover 214Si (left this with the missus when we split last year!)
1983 'Gulf' Mini 1380 - highly modded project car and LM transport for 3 years!  ;D  ;D
1996 Peugeot 806 SVDT (my current wheels!)
.... and in about 3 hours, hopefully I will be the proud owner of a Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 Coupe!!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D

I'm sure I've missed one or two and there have been so many others driven but too many to list here (plus I am a bear of little brain these days due to alcoholic brain-cell depletion).

Morris 1100 Mk 1   :)
Peuguot 504 Ti
Fiat 124  1100
Alfa Romeo Alfasud 1200 Ti   ;D
Beettle 1300
Volkswagen LT 35 2500 petrol   :)
Fiat Uno
Renault 11 1700 GTL
Renault 5 Turbo
Golf GTI Mk 2
Renault 19 16v saloon    ;D ;D
Ford Orion 1600 Ghia
Volkswagen Passat 1.8 20v
Citroen Xantia 1.8
Kawasaki KH 250     :)
Ducati M750 Monster     ;D ;D
Audi A6 Avant TDI
Kawasaki KV 75

Plus various commericals to mundane to mention, except the LT, straight six 2.5 petrol engine that drank fuel, but when empty could surprise cars at the lights, and you could have a party in the back. ;D

Favourite car is a close call between the Alfasud and the Renault 19 16v, both went round corners as if on rails, and the Sud had a breathed on engine that meant it really went for a 1200.
But the 16v was a real rocket ship, so that's my no 1, even though it nearly cost me my licence. :)

I'm sure we've done all this before, however, here we go -

1978 Ford Escort mk2
ancient Ford Anglia
1973 Ford Cortina mk3
1980 Vauxhall Cavalier mk1
1983 Vauxhall Cavalier mk2 SRi
1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (kicked serious bottom - engine lives on in the Dax)
1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille (vast ocean liner of a car)
1976 Triumph Spitfire (it's still here somewhere around the house and garage in numerous cardboard boxes - long term project  ::) )
1984 Pontiac Fiero
1997 Audi A4 (slight hiccup in a strict diet of US vehicles)
1997 Chevrolet Camaro
2002 SAAB 9-3 (another hiccup)
2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (5.7 litres of growling V8 - my better halfs current 'commuter' car)

.... and of course DAX Tojeiro Cobra replica, complete with aforementioned 1976 Pontiac 6.6 litre V8 (trusted Le Mans transport and all round fun car)

plus a Honda and a couple of Kawasaki motorcycles (now gone)

company cars -
3 x Ford Escort
1 x Ford Focus
1 x Vauxhall Vectra old shape
1 x Vauxhall Vestra current model (good for carting about bath tubs and bits of wood - and 180 bhp to boot!)

In financial terms, that's a hell of a lot of car tax / insurance / fuel costs  ::)

In no particular order:

1985 Mini - the least reliable car in Britain
1991 Metro GTI - blinding. Used to get a cuppa at the garage when it received its monthly litre of oil
1995 Mini Cooper - exhaust fell off, indicators packed in. Was BRG though.
2000 Saxo VTR - crap. Friday car.
1996 Escort Cabrio (girlfriends at the time - not mine honest)
1998 Lotus Elise - (now covered 55,000 in it and have the stonechips, clam cracks, rattles, squeaks etc to prove it)
1991 Lotus Elan - bought in 2001 with 12,000 on the clock. Time warped gem which I sold out of guilt because I was spoiling.
2000 Lotus 340R - blew head gasket on way to my wedding
1983 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus - still got in pieces accross a few different locations.
2000 Impreza P1 brilliant alrounder. 4 up for camping to Swanage
1986 Fiesta XR2 - in diamond white. Loved it.
2002 Evo 7 FQ300 - lot of lag, noise etc. Good fun.
1998 Porsche 996 C2 - great cruiser but bought the first one I saw which was a mistake as it was a bit lacking in spec.
2003 Impreza STI PPP - great workhorse, image a shame.
2004 Porsche 997 Carrera S - love it, a huge step forward and the pccb are amazing.
1999 Smart - awful. Blew the engine day 1 and never returned.
1999 Alfa Romeo 156 - fab interior. steady.

Best laugh was the wife and me - Lands End to John O Groats in the Elise. We did the route overnight, 3 stops for fuel 835 miles, 11 hours 37 minutes. A brilliant experience, sunset by the sea at Lands End and sunrise somewhere around Wick. Felt a bit numb afterwards as Elise seats aren't renound for padding!

As a releative minor to you old codgers.

I have owned a 2000 1.0 Corsa and I know have a 2002 Alfa1.8 TS which i love but gives me no end of little problems. Clarkson is right, you aren't a true petrolhead till you have owned an Alfa, and if you aren't one and you buy one then be prepared for your engine to expire whilst going down the motorway as you followed Alfas advice about cambelt replacement. The book says 72k, my local Alfa indy garage says 36k. I am 25k and fully intend to get mine done at the next service.

Good point M'Lord, the RS is a mighty quick motor and one that has wiped the smile of the face of many a determined young man, but ........and I take a deep breath at this point, it is slow compared to the pork chop.

Not that I would ever admit to breaking any speed limits on this or any other forum.

Here's my lot -
Open Manta 1.9SR
Opel Manta GTE (Stolen, but recovered - never felt the same)
Vauxhall Astra GTE (Stolen and burnt out by joy riders)
Reliant Scimitar SS1 1600
Ford Sapphire Cosworth 2WD
Ford Sapphire Cosworth 2WD tweaked to about 330bhp
Ford Sapphire Cosworth 4WD tweaked to about 480bhp (stolen - god I miss that car!)
Renaut 19 16v (to drive whilst the above Cosworth was in the garage, which was very often!)
Mitsubishi EVO 6 (great car but a bit clinical in getting the job done)
Lotus Elise S1 (Current car bought as an antidote to the Evo, and in a (vain) attempt to keep the license clean)
VW Polo 998cc - 'The Beast' (The wife's cast-off, now she has a Civic Sport. For use when it's really raining and when I need to carry more than a toothbrush)
Looking for a change in the not too distant future, but can't for the life of me think what to try next. Seriously tempted to buy a trevor but not sure i can live with poor reliability and big bills (been down that road before with the tuned Cosworths)...

I'll chuck some bikes in too then Robbo.

Yamaha DT125 - well you have to learn on something I guess. not very good at anything. Always started, well that's something I suppose.

1993 Fireblade - raw and beautiful, out of the frying pan and into the fire so to speak.

Suzuki 350DS- crashed the Blade and needed transport, top off road, not on it though. Got the Blade back and crashed the Suzy, oh well.

Ducati Monster 900 - looked great, total f**k*ng rubbish though.

Yamaha YZ125 + YZ250 - f**k*ng mental motocrossers ...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Honda RC45 - absolutely stunning - f**k*ng stolen - f**k*ng bastards - couldn't outrun Arnie Webb though. Good for 95 in first gear,  very loose rear end as I found out nearly taking out a placky cobra at Arnage, whoops. Steered suprisingly well on 1 wheel, resultant loose end on my behalf. Phew.

Honda Blackbird - s'not that fast nor comfy, much faster when jetted and piped, just about outran Arnie Webb in his disgusting orange ( now yellow ) Caterham second time around.

Suzuki Bandit 1200 - that's more like it, I scared the sh*t out Kimey at Le Mans on this beauty, ha. When I say 'hold on' I f**k*ng mean it you tit.

Yamaha 1200XJR - one of the best, tear your arms out of their sockets. Owey

1998 Honda Fireblade. S'alright, replaced the RC45, quick but dull and very painful on 2 trips to Italy. Nothing like the original, far to silky.

Yamaha Fazer 1000 - Carved my first tarmac on freshly laid Italian blacktop with this baby, sweet and 200 miles to a tank. Also stolen.

2002 Yamaha R1 - beautiful in silver and matt black, properly quick.

BMW 1150 GS - 40000 miles, 3 trips to Italy, still going strong and just going. I'll take on any sporty bike rider on this behemoth and still ride around the outside of you, ha ha. Probably the best bike I have owned. Bye bye baby I'll miss you.

KTM 640 SM - A&E express, replaced the R1 and much more fun, still here and still scary. Very dangerous. Makes you ride like a complete c**t.

BMW 1200GS Adventure, my new baby (?) arrives in 2 weeks, I can't wait.

Skoff,

I had a Saphire Cossie in 1990, great car and went like stink, trouble was bits kept falling off it.

Jem

Yeah great fun, but as you say bits would drop off them all the time, I went through 1 engine, 2 gearboxes, 2 AP racing clutches, a driveshaft, a fuel tank  :o , and it seemed everything would cost multiples of £500... Heady (if expensive) days!!! Nice to meet a fellow Cossie fan!
