Title: Flagpoles
Post by: nickliv on April 23, 2006, 10:54:21 am
I've got a flag, where do I get a flagpole from? Otherwise I can see a visit to mr Heath Robinson coming up (an old tent pole, some bamboo, and lots and lots of cable ties)

You want a telescopic fishing pole.  You can buy them from Dunstable Kites (google them) or someone on Ebay, I think Sky Blue Leisure.

Alterntively wait until you get to France and buy one cheaper in Carrefour!

You'll need some kind of spike to keep it up ( ;D).  Cut off reebar (sp?) comes highly recommended or you can buy a purpose built stake from the sellers above!

Put your name down for a CA flag - we need to sell a few more to be able to order them!

Cheers.

Think I might just do that.

Go direct to their website - you save a couple of quid against e**y prices.

If you want the larger sizes (8 or 9m), I would suggest you get them before you go - I looked in many stores last year in France, and although they were cheaper than the UK, I couldn't find any greater than 5 or 6m.

I bought from Skyblueleasure last year. Cheap prices and 3 day delivery, a great service

So did I, Bob.  I bought a 7m pole, and eventually had 4 full size flags on it (CA flag, Union, Tricoleur and Aston Martin).  Needless to say that when the wind blew up, it broke the pole.  I've since been using a 9m pole with no more than 2 flags, and it has survived quite happily.

Ok - no wind in the photo, but it has survived quite strong winds.

An 8 metre with CA flag and a St George windsock stood up to all the wind and rain that Silverstone could throw at it last year and survived, as did the excellent quality CA flag supplied by Robbo.
I used a pointed broom handle driven into the ground to anchor it.

My flagpole collapsed at Silverstone LMES, it had seen better days and the weight of two very wet flags and the wind was too much for it!  :(

I remember seeing you take the pic Steve, and can vouch that it wasnt due to any falling down trouser situation .... at that stage of the day....!

We havn't all got a couple of ton of scaffolding to hook them to LT, so ours have to be a little more modest.   :D :D :D  (Modest???....at LM???)

Two Men Died at the Talladega Speedway
April 24, 2006 10:30 PM CDT

Talladega County Coroner Jerry Castleberry says two men were killed Monday after being electrocuted at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Castleberry says 39-year-old Keith Stell of Birmingham and 42-year-old Ronny Wright of Remlap died instantly.

The men were camping at the Speedway and were electrocuted after the flagpole they were trying to erect fell into some power lines.

Castleberry said witnesses at the scene said gusts of wind caused the flagpole to fall.

He said the men had still been holding on to the pole when it touched the power lines and they --quote-- "didn't have a chance."

Our flagpole is selfmade, but for the campsite only

It consists of 5 elements made from good metal. A solid base that get hammered a good 20cm into the ground.
Around 4m high and lasts even worst thunderstorms
