Almost spilled my coffee while laughing when reading that yesterday's Le Mans Series 1000 km race in Istanbul had to be shortened to 4 hours because there wasn't enough fuel available at the racetrack :o :o :o
First I thought it to be a late april fool, but apparantly exactly this happened.
Not enough fuel at an automobile race, what a masterpiece of organisation ;D ;D ;D
By the way: Bouillon / Collard in the Pesca won...
-
This is a disgrace... the teams put in that much effort to put on a spectacular show and then the organisers manage to spoil it all, unbelievable. Yet again they also managed sucessfully to keep spectators off. >:(
I very much hope that this is it for Istanbul. They don't deserve a LMS race.
-
I'm still struggling to see the sense in having an LMES race in Istanbul.
I know Turkey is supposed to be in the EU and this is a European series, but the majority of fans live in 'western' Europe / Scandinavia.
There MUST be an alternative venue for next year?
-
From the highlights on Motors TV it looked a cracking race.
Did I hear that they only told the teams the race was going to be shortened after the race started?
-

Don't push your luck, they haven't even got an alternative for Monza yet :-\
-
If all else fails there's Zandvoort.
Anyway, I didn't realise that the circuit provided the fuel. I thought this was abandoned in 1988? when Le Mans bought some cheap stuff from Carrefour, and everything was melting pistons.
If they have a central supplier (like Shell) then they should know how much is needed. Perhaps it got nicked.
And the remains of the fuel tank system (a series of manholes etc) are by the pit wall opposite the far right hand pit. Strangely it wasn't dug out when the pits were rebuilt. Just be careful where you drop your dog ends [/anorak off]

Le Mans has got a complete refulling system underneath their pitboxes, I was told at the RfH-factory. Apparently the ACO charge the teams about €7,- a litre :-\
-
That 's around 25.000 Euros just for fuel. :o
-
This is odd. You'd put a lot of effort into setting up the engine management for a particular fuel, and then not trust anything else. They must have a central supplier of race fuel, but god knows what rubbish there must be in the pipes, and E7 a litre is expensive

Yes, this was announced app. 90 mins after the start...

The ACO issue a spec sheet for the fuel used.

Why do the words piss-up and brewery both spring to mind?? :o
-
There's usually a central supplier or a fuel sponsor which I'm imagine is the case here.
What a cock up though!!

Easy to tell - just look out for the fast-as-f**k mini-cabs on the streets of downtown Istanbul!

I dont't think they go all the way either

..... and definately not south of the river ::)

At 93.9p a litre today I can't say I blame them...
-
I wonder what they charge for diesel ? Maybe Audi have been looking to save on the Fuel Bill!
-
Just 93.9!!!! i had to pay 96.9 yesterday as I was low on fuel, it then spotted 103.9 for diesel later in the day!!!!!
Diesel in is supposed to be 4p a litre cheaper then petrol, as said by the chancellor in the 2003 budget.
-
I found out why there was not enough fuel at the Instanbul-circuit>>
Turkey:
Price in liras - Price in euros
Unleaded 95: 2,54 - 1,58
Unleaded 98: 2,77 - 1,72
Diesel: 2,15 1,34
LPG: 1,17 0,73
Unleaded ('Kursunsuz benzin') is easily obtainable.
Unleaded for €1,72 a litre, that's £1.20 ! :o

The last time I believed anything a chancellor said I was still at school.
And that was Healey saying that he was going to sqeeze the rich untill the pips squeaked.
Only difference is that the present incumbant has forgotton the rich bit, and is screwing everyone. >:(

I bet evryting runs smoothly when Sir Bernie Ecclescake rolls into town

Yeah, it ran so well when they rolled into Indy last year too ::)

Don't get me started on fuel prices!
I had to pay $2.64 a gallon yesterday - it was 99c When I moved here in 2001

Is that a US gallon, or UK ;) ;)
-
Never really figured that one out Barry - why US galls are different to the old imperial measure, I've no idea. Aside from the gentle piss-taking, it is becoming a worry here too. The entire economy revolves around gasoline and $3 per gallon is a certainty within the next week or so in FL (It varies significantly state to state). All kinds of hilarious excuses - the latest being increased price for 'summer-blend' fuel.
I'm planning a road-trip to AZ soon and my 'Burban does an impressive 15mpg - so not much change out of $600 for petrol there and back - that blows.
-
Why not move on to LPG ? I've done that a couple of years ago and although I'm driving a gas guzzler (for European standards) it helps to keep the bills low. See Paddy's post: 'Just' 72 Cents for 1 liter of LPG in Turkey, I pay 69 Cents over here and 47 Cents in Belgium.

You run your car on bourbon? Fantastic idea! I'm off to the pub for a gallon of guinness to see how the westfield likes it... ;D

The reluctance in the Uk to change to LPG is due to the lack of petrol stations selling the stuff, and we know if it gets to popular good old Gordon will whack up the taxes on it.
