Title: The Sebring Thread
Post by: Robspot on March 01, 2006, 11:22:38 am
Dear Sebringers

As you may or may not be aware (and even if you are aware it has become apparent that you don't care), not everyone on this site is lucky enough to be able to jet off to Florida for a couple of weeks of festivities and motor racing.

In order to prevent further depression of otherwise happy-go-lucky individuals (myself and Piglet to name two!) please would you keep your Sebring comments to this thread alone and leave all of the other threads 'boast' free.

YOU BUNCH OF HEARTLESS BASTARDS  ;D ;D ;D

Steve, you must be psychic. Only last week I bought the Best Of Ian Dury CD. It's a triumph of poetic lyrics. An appropriate one for an Essex lad like you might by the one that goes:

Oi Oi!
Good evening i'm from essex
in case you couldn't tell
my given name is Dickie, I come from Billericay
and I'm doing very well

had a love affair with Nina
in the back of my Cortina
a seasoned up hyena could not have been more obscener
she took me to the cleaners
and other misdemeanours
but I got right up between her
rum and her Ribena

well, you ask Joyce and Vicki
if candy-floss is sticky
I'm not a blinking thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and i'm doing very well

I bought a lot of brandy
when I was courting Sandy
took eight to make her randy
and all I had was shandy
another thing with Sandy
what often came in handy
was passing her a 'Mandy'
she didn't half go bandy

so you ask Joyce and Vicki
if I ever took the mickey
I'm not a flipping thicky
I'm billeicay dickie
and I'm doing very well

I'd rondez-vouez with Janet
quite near the Isle of Thanet
she looked more like a gannet
she wasn't half a prannet
her mother tried to ban it
her father helped me plan it
and when I captured Janet she bruised her pomegranet

so you ask Joyce and Vicki
if i ever shaped up tricky
I'm not a blooming thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and I'm doing very well

you should never hold a candle if you don't know where it's been
the jackpot is in the handle on a normal fruit machine

so you ask Joyce and Vicki
who's their brickie
I'm not a common thicky
I'm Billericay Dickie
and I'm doing very well

I know a lovely old toe-rag obliging and noblesse
kindly, charming shag from Shoeburyness

my given name is Dickie
I come from Billericay
I thought you'd never guess

so you ask Joyce and Vicki
a pair of squeaky chickies
I'm not a flaming thicky I'm Billericay Dickie
and I'm doing very well

oh golly, oh gosh come and lie on the couch
with a nice bit of posh from Burnham-on-Crouch

my given name is Dickie, I come from Billericay
and I ain't a sloutch

so you ask Joyce and Vicki
about Billericay Dickie
I ain't an effin' thicky
you ask Joyce and Vicki
and I'm doing very well

I'm not of course implying you had a love affair with Nina in the back of your Cortina. Although you might have done back in those heady days...

Thirded and thank you!!

It's not quite as bad as last year when Keith went to Sebring and I had to stay home.  Oh how I laughed when he rang me from the side of the track so that I could hear the car noises  ::)

I'm still trying to work out how to get my employer to pay me more and to recognise that 40 days holiday a year should be standard!

A little more good Sebring news.  Twice Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueria will be joing the Multimac Panoz GT2 squad for Sebring.
This will be Bruno's first race back after his Indy 500 injuries, good to see Junky back!

Agreed Chop,
Wouldn't be a race without some celebrity poser rolled out.  Christ! How many times have we watched jerk-offs like Michael Douglas or Matthew McConnaughey prance around on a starting grid thinking they're actually important.  My favorite was when that guy from Beverly Hills 20210 tried to knock down the cement walls at the Kentucky Speedway a few years ago during the Infinity Pro Series practice.  The moral of that is no talent actors have even less talent as drivers.

You lot in the USA can count yourselves lucky. You never had to tolerate the likes of pseudo-celebs like we did in the 80's. The Radio 1 DJ's Noel Edmonds and Mike Smith and also ex-Wham frontman Andrew Ridgeley were utterly vomit inducing.

The worst ordeal we ever have to experience is the Parade of Celebrities the morning of the Indy 500 every year.  I sh**t you not, this really happens as part of the pre-race ceremonies.  Its fricking hilarious, they dig up a bunch geezers who's career floundered thirty years ago and drive them around, perched on the back of the pace cars, hanging on for dear life.  The standard response when one of them goes past is "I thought he (or she) was dead?"

Did anyone mention the beads to the Sebring rookies?  Bring beads with you (it'll be self-explanitory when you get there, ever seen any Mardi Gras footage?)
Remember St. Patricks Day is on the Friday, last time it was on race day one needed green beads (and a hollow leg to hold all the Guinness).

Chop,
Good man with the Yuengling!  Great stuff from America's oldest brewery.  Personally love the Porter but may a bit heavy for being in the sun all day, lager is excellent too.  The beads are essential, especially around sunset when the girls have a afternoon full of beer in 'em.

Sebring has a bit of a hedonistic Mardi Gras flavor about it and one of the traditions of Mardi Gras is swapping multi-colored beads (the louder the colors the better) girls competing for beads will give you a flash, the better the beads, the better the jiggle show.

It looks very good indeed.

Do the American amongst us know what Thetford actually do?  Do you have Portapotties in the States, or just Bumper Dumpers.

For us poor slobs staying in the UK, has anyone found if Sebring is on the Telly?  Motors/Eurosport or Sky.  Guaranteed to be on the Speed Channel, I suppose

I know that Norcold (a subsidiary of Thetford) makes refrigeration equipment for RV and Marine use.  Know this much because my buddy's camper has a Norcold fridge (gotta keep the beer cold).  May have a Thetford crapper but never wanted to look that close.
Pretty cars though, always immaculately prepared.
Hope they blow the doors off the Audi's.

Got a cool new Sebring hat to help detect the 'bad gravity spots' inside of Green Park at night. This will help elimate all of that nasty falling down stuff that always seems to happen.

It looks very good indeed.

Do the American amongst us know what Thetford actually do?  Do you have Portapotties in the States, or just Bumper Dumpers.

Hi Lorry,
Thetford are know primarily for RV and Marine toilet chemicals and as Fax points out Norcold are part of the same company.
I believe Dyson is a owner of that company hence the traditional livery for 16 and 20.

We'll definitely be meeting up with Steve as he was kind enough to bring my t-shirt over here.

If Steve is able to find and purchase your wheeled Maxcold,  I'd assume that he'll be unable to bring 2 coolers home on the plane.  If you'd still like a non-wheeled 50,  we can bring it over in June.  If he's unable to find your wheeled model in FL or is somehow able to take 2 coolers home, he can take one of our non-wheeled 50's.

Flobee whipped me at shopping.  I drove 35 miles to buy  the same cooler and paid $33 for it this past Sunday.   ::)

The more the merrier!!  ;D

Seriously though, whatever Steve can bring back for me will be great, and if you guys can bring one or two of the 50's over in June as well, even better!! Hopefully the small ice machine I've bought will be producing enough to be able to fill it for you when you get over to Le Mans!

I'm sure any amount of ice will help!

Cold beer is a must!

Thats the exact same icemaker I've been looking at. I had a plan to drain the coolers every morning into the icemaker and make more ice for that day. How heavy is that thing? I may still get one-double the Ice output ;)

Agreed GAB,
We'll drink to Dyson, Penske, Corvette, Audi, Aston, etc.  We'll drink to the fans who are there, and the ones who can't be. Hell, give me a excuse to drink, and I'll drink to it. ;)

Ahhh, Sam Adams, that brings back some memories of drunk nights in Burlington Vermont!

Love that beer, it is the only kind that deserves the name beer in the USA.

Actually he's not far off when it comes to the big, mass produced, and mass marketed stuff.  However there's a hell of a lot of terrific locals brews, just have to know where to go to find them.  Trust me, you won't them at Wal-Mart, Publix or Kroger, they only carry "TV" beer.

No fighting intended!

We had this microbrew company called 'magic hat' in Vermont. They had some fine selection of beers!! Mostly based on the heavier Belgian varieties!

As for TV beer,

What is the comparison between Budweiser and having sex in a rowboat?

It is both f'ing close to water! ;D

I'll buy a cold beer at Sebring to the first person to tell me who the bearded gentleman walking with Ronnie in my avatar photo is? For many of us this is pretty easy question, but we were on the subject of motor racing journalists on another thread and this bloke was one of the best of the journalist/racer breed.  Good bloke and a absolute master of the Ring.

Spot on there Mark, taken at Monza in '78.  Very sad weekend for sport.  Sadly Harald lost his life in a light aircraft accident in 1982.
Two very missed men.  They don't make them like these anymore.
Beers on me Steve.
