Title: Maison Blanche Communal Electric Supply
Post by: jpchenet on February 03, 2006, 01:17:23 pm
As the other thread has wandered slightly (there's a surprise!  ;)) I thought I'd start another to guage actual interest in the possible sharing fo a large electricity supply.

So far I believe there has been definate ineterst from Drinking for Holland and Team JPC

Probable interest from Delboy, The Self Preservation Society and Mal.

Possible interest from Team Zarse, Big H? Stu? Piglet?

How about others that camp near the same area? Rick Cutler, The Liverpool Boys, RS2 Babe.

It would save the hassle of taking your own genny down and probably only cost the same as you spend on fuel for your own one anyway.

The total cost, including fuel, will be approx. £600. DfH and Team JPC are willing to put £150 each in as we'll be using a fair bit more than the average group. So if we can find 6 groups willing to pay £50 each it's a goer. Any more contributors than that will go towards the Draught Lager and Tropicoma supplies.

Smokie, any chance you could sticky this please.

Mark,

We are definately up for this. Please put us down.

I guess it will be important to ensure all teams taking this up are located close to each other .

The genny will be placed somewhere on the tarmac road, as the thing weighs approx 1200 kg. And it's very possible to get  that out of the truck on grasland, but moving it around will be a pain, and so will be putting it back in the truck afterwarts. Probable location (if we can claim the same pitch as last year) the end of the fencing which was surrounded by those tires.

JP, we bit the bullet last year and bought a genny. We could have a problem getting it down though, it won't fit in the Jag and our first load carrier doesn't arrive till late Thursday. So it's looking like we may be short on juice for the beer cooler for the first couple of days or so. I could be up for a temporary connection.
It would probably be easier for us to put the fridge in someones camp nearer the DFH genny rather than fart around with connections and running cables over the tarmac.
I'm not sure when Uncle Albert's getting down, his hearing aids alone must draw several KW's, the old bugger must be nearly 80 now, and he's getting dafter. I think he'a away skiing at the moment.
One of our lot is a qualified sparks, he'd probably be up for lending a hand if required, - if you cross his palm with lager or promise not to send 240V AC through his testicles.

We thought we'd save that for the Gimp ;D

Anyway, sounds pretty reasonable to put your fridge near the generator - as long as you bring a large padlock ;)

As for having the generator on the tarmac - I will probably bring a few europallets, gives us more choice.

Will the genny infringe on the peddle car track?

Not us thanks - we're self sufficient on gas (other than my hairdryer!! (I think this is where the other thread wandered off!).

Actually - having said that - I suppose I should consult the other members of my team before I turn the offer down completely.

Is the tarmac roadway on the left hand side of where DfH were last year?? (if you're looking at the track) .  We might be a bit far away.

I'll consult!

Looking at the track from our pitch, I was thinking about the tarmac road behind me. ;)

On this picture a bit to left, or maybe where the photo is taken from, but that is less central I guess.....

Mark,

I would be interested too.

We will still use our other gennies for occasional/back-up power supply but it certainly would be useful for 24 hour power to the fridges / freezers.

Rusty.

No problem Piglet. I thought you had implied that you might be interested in electric to heat your water!

I've put it out for discussion in case the boys want leccy to run laptpops etc.   We'll stick with the primative solar system and pray for sunshine!!  It's more fun that way!!

We've given this one some thought Mark, and to be honest, it's probably not required by our lot. We only really have one fridge and a couple of lights to run so will probably just stick with our genny. It used less than four gallons of fuel last year. Thanks for the offer though.
