Title: Ray Hanna Post by: Nordic on December 03, 2005, 05:36:40 pm http://www.ofmc.co.uk/
Very sad news today, Ray Hanna has died suddenly. While not a driver his passing will strike a cord with all those who have seen him flying at Goodwood in recent years in his Spitfire. Title: Re: Ray Hanna Post by: Ferrari Spider on December 03, 2005, 06:39:08 pm Oh no, what shocking news. Such a great loss to the historic aircraft movement. Very tragic, if anyone was at the opening Goodwood Revival and witnessed Ray's flyby along the start/finish straight BELOW the stands will know what a truly talented pilot he was. A very sad loss.

Title: Re: Ray Hanna Post by: mgmark on December 03, 2005, 09:57:10 pm Another one sadly heads for the highest flight of all. Remember him from the start of the Reds and latterly displaying fine machinery with verve and elan. Has to be the classic for him:
"High Flight" Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. He was an excellent pilot, certainly knew how to show any plane off at it's best. Thanks Ray. Title: Re: Ray Hanna Post by: Chris24 on December 04, 2005, 01:17:46 am Another great has passed away. I have great memories of some fantastic displays be Ray and his late son Mark Hanna at various airshows around the UK.
I guess he will now be reunited with Mark and tearing up the skies in a high plain somewhere. I just hope his aircraft still get displayed by a worthy pilot in the future. Title: Re: Ray Hanna Post by: Fax on December 05, 2005, 01:52:04 pm That is very sad news indeed. I still have a documentary program I recorded several years ago over here on the Discovery Wings Channel about the Spitfire, it includes extensive interview footage with Ray and Mark Hanna that was sadly filmed just a couple of weeks before Marks fatal crash in Spain. I hope their company remains in good hands.
