Title: Club Arnage Go-Karting Event
Post by: Ferrari Spider on October 31, 2005, 12:54:09 pm
Would there be any interest in an event like this.  Thinking somewhere in the home counties and around about March or April next year?

Yup, good idea FS.

There's a number of indoor tracks in the London area or the large outdoor 1.2 km track at Buckmoor Park near to Chatham / Maidstone.

Buckmore is the dog's knackers, you won't find many finer kart tracks in Europe.

Buckmore looks quality. Certainly beats the ass off the Le Mans death carts!!!

I like the idea, but do they do any for fat blokes? It's like driving a singer sewing machine round unless your 3 stone or less :(

Its all down to power to weight ratios, and I'm at a distinct disadvantage usually.  And I'm fed up with Karts where you can only get one cheek in the seat

I might be away during some of March (dare I mention Sebring?) but would definitely be interested.

I’ll get in contact with Buckmore and get some more details from them,  April, looks a good time and see what else we can plan in, who knows we may be able to get the DfH guys over as well and have an evening together.

Ballast, lorry, don't worry about size, it's something I’ve always suffered with and I might be able to come up with a "fair" handicapping system.  Especially if pro drivers are being entered.

we may need some tropicoma!!

There were carts being run at the Marham Track Day, I think that mark is planning on running two events a year. Earlier he was thinking of March/April so maybe the two events could tie together especially if the international CA contingent are going to make an apperance.

dependant on your budget - may be worth going for Club 100 event instead - 100 cc karts - i have a mate who works for playscape - if someone can get me some numbers i can chat to him and see what he can offer.

Will this be a team event?

Andy

thats the current thinking, something along the lines of a team endurance race.  If we use buckmore the minimum is 18 people.

Buckmore are sending info through to me, shall be putting on the thread in the next couple of days.

I'm sure I can raise some interest from my gang if you want teams.
Buckmore is only 12 miles from me so no excuses for not turening up.
Trouble is that most of us are fat arses so no chance of us winning anything other than the dangerous driving award.

Rusty, thinking of a "weighting" or handicap system to make it as fair as possible also prizes for fastest and furthest so we can recognise the young and slim as well.

Mr F Spider has contacted me with a request to clean up this thread and make it sticky (err...are they compatible I wonder??), seeing as it is raising a fair bit of interest (especially now that we are in the "close" season"!).

So I've done that. Chit chat elsewhere please.

btw Ferrari, NormanD also expressed interest my delete finger got over-excited. Will drop him a mail to ask him to re-register his interest.

Depending on how long the endurance race is going to last, I would recommend teams of not more than (ideally) three to (max) four people. It gets boring otherwise, all the pacing around waiting for your turn, knowing you can do a better job than your team mates.

Title: Re: Club Arnage Go-Karting Event
Post by: Brad Zarse on November 03, 2005, 08:19:51 pm
dependant on what you're driving i would agree mr zarse....

if we go for the thunder karts at Buckmore then any more that 20 mins is gonna kill us all.....

If you go for Club 100, theyre a bit less physical and a bit more "whoooosh" so you can easily manage 40 mins in one.....

if you want the whooosh and the hard work factor, you need to buy ya own kart, gearbox, or even a 100cc is pretty hard going!

Team Tres Hombres are primed and ready to enter and accept defeat graciously.

If there's enough of us why not look for somewhere that can offer us camping for a beer / barbecue evening.
Alternatively, somewhere near a cheap hotel for a complete session.

Count us in!

Right, here goes!!

The long and short of it.  For us to use Buckmore, we will need a minimum of 15 teams for a 90min or 120min endurance race and something in the order of at least three to four people per team.  This will give us at least four to five hours at Buckmore, more enough to work up a thirst and appetite for the evenings fun if you would like to stay on.  The facilities at Buckmore are first rate for our needs during the day.  Check out their website for details.

http://www.buckmore.co.uk/content.php/000

Costs per team are £134 for 90min and £179 for 120min.  Not expensive when divided up amongst the individuals.  Buckmore need a 50% deposit up front when booking.

Thoughts at the moment, let me know how many teams we can field, if short i will approach Beer Mountain, tw**tS, Porsche Curve Pirates and any other groups you may like to suggest.  We can have more than 15 teams, the max is 35, so maybe that's something to aim for.

Speaking with Mr Zarse we have come up with some solutions to the "pro kart racer" vs the fat arsed slow coaches like me and Gazza, so fear not.  Also don't bank on racing with a particular team, more info later.

Gimp Zarse has the inside gen on good overnight sleeps, curry and beers.

Thinking about the tale end of April over a weekend, so racing on Saturday, meal & beer for those that would like to stay on.

Let me know numbers initially so we can work this up and get our slot booked with Buckmore.

Further details to follow.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Looking through the Arnages that have already indicated they would be interested it amounts to twenty names.  Obviously this does not include your chums, fantastic start.

To make ago of it we need at least 45 names (15 karts x 3 drivers ).

I have to say though I don't recall doing much in the way of co-driving.  My memory is more one of sitting in the passengers seat with a big f**k off grin on my face.   ;D

I know that my Tom and Michael (if he's allowed, he's only 10, but races karts in cadet class) and I would love to join in this event. I also know that bobblehat has expressed an interest too.

If you can let us have some proposed dates, I can let you know if we have a spare weekend that fits in with curent racing program.

More ringers!!!!!!  ;) ;D

Having met Tom and Michael, I guess they would need to share one Kart, at the same time, to come anywhere near the weight of the average CA'er!  ;)

Hardly ringers, JP...... well, maybe!

Having said that, I once did a four hour endurance karting event in Birmingham. I, of course, did involve a couple of friends (as you do), but they just happened to be two British Kart Champions. Just a coincidence, you understand.

However, when we all arrived the organisers dealt out playing cards to everyone and seperated them all according to black or red cards into two groups. They continued to do this until they ended up with twelve groups of four competitors and these made up the "teams" for the night.

Not only did you get to meet three new "mates" for the evening, but the result was after four hours, there was only one lap seperated first and last teams!

It was a great way of levelling out the competition, and made everyone think more carefully about driver and refuelling strategies.

Worth a thought?

I'll just like to add, that I think everyone involved with Club-Arnage wishes Spider a full, and very speedy recovery. Get well soon.

I'm going to de-sticky this for the time being - as for a lot of reasons it won't happen this side of LM, so it'll clear some space on page 1 for our busiest time of the year...

Will re-sticky once it's under serious consideration again. The thread will drop down the list but not disappear.
