Title: ACO Membership
Post by: lardyboy on September 30, 2005, 04:44:44 pm
Not the usual "Is it worth me joining ACO" question, but what membership should I be getting?

Click the Union Flag on lemans.org to get the English tranlated pages and you're only offered Club24, it doesn't seem to offer that much.

So bearing in mind that I'm over in France every six weeks or so, and would find the even limited rescue services of use, which level of membership would people recommend?

I'm sure I could just plough through the French side of the site, but I'm kind od hoping several of you have already done that.

All advice (on this subject at least) very welcome.

LaRdy

Cher Garcon Saindoux, (as I should call you seeing as you've gone Frogside). I don't know the answer, but as sure as oeufs are oeufs, someone on here will put you right.

I have seen somewhere whenat LM. A brochure offering a membership similar to the AA here.

It might be worth sending them an e- mail.!"!!!

Been a membre for some years but never had to use it. I understand it's a very basic service - tow you to the nearest garage and that's it.

Certainly not as person based as AA membership. (but I would say that wouldn't I ?)

I have the Club24 membership but as they only offer a tow to a garage I was reluctant to put my clutch hydraulics problem in their tender mercies. Shouldn't think it'd be too bad though, just need a second mortgage for the bill...

I rang the ACO this year about their emergency/rescue service with an ACO membership, when I was going to France, and they told me they did not do it any more ... unless you know different.

Looking at the website, this would appear to be correct.  I'll be bu@@ered if I'm going to pay E92 for a program and a set of results.  Knowing someone who speaks english and might  tow you to a garage is worth a few bob.

I shall complain to el presidente

I've just had a minor shufftie at my current members card, and it seems I'm covered for roadside emergencies and assistance. There's a number on the card and a picture on the accompanying literature of a man in uniform and an assistance vehicle with ACO plastered all over it. Mind you, he does look remarkably like the grizzled old campaigner with the short length of stiff rubber pipe who keeps Smokies toilet block in Bristol fashion, but that could just be my imagination.
If they've changed their policy it must have been in the last few months. - I know what you mean about being buggered Lorry, if we no longer have breakdown cover, and membership gives you no ticket privileges (apart from a little discount), then there really is no point in carrying on.
I mean, there is a point in carrying on, blimey, I didn't mean from a life point of view or anything, it's always worth struggling on, what's the point if there's no struggling and no hills to climb, hills with the sound of music, and little tinkly voices. And goats, we all have friends in goats, and cheeses, and and...ohhh

I believe if you purchase your full allocation of entrance and camping passes then you save more money than your ACO membership costs!

Also, if (like The Classic next year for me) there's another event that you'll want to go to (24 Moto or Moto GP) then you save even more. In 2004, purchasing tickets for The Classic as an ACO member allowed free entrance to the ACO Grandstand and the Paddock if the member bought the tickets.

Also, you get to enter the lotto to purchase two ACO Grandstand Tickets. ::)

So its start selling tickets on eb@y or not bother.  80 quid is still stiff

Not if you're in a group of 6 people or more. In fact, IIRC, 6 GA's and 2 Camping passes for MB saves just over your membership costs. So your ACO membership with the other advantages is free!

That's why I joined the ACO as well.
For the rest? Well, you get a nice sticker for your car and a large pile of paper with facts and figures of the '05 race :|

The people of the booking office told me the ACO membership does NOT affect the booking of camping tickets. That seems to have a first come, first served policy.

The chrome grille badge is good too. Looks damn nice on Lara's grille, the other side from the AA badge with her MG badge in between! 8)

The ticket concessions bit IS annoying when it doesn't let the member get an early booking for camping.

Next year we may be going back to Continental Car Tours or whatever so we can get tickets and ferries at the same time. So much hassle doing the separate thing this year. But we will be using ACO for Welcome area tickets, but I doubt if there is any discount on these, is there?

It looks as if we will be in bulk next year maybe 9 or 10 cars so far.

The paintwork specialists are talking about importing a low bake oven for the customising work "en site"...

...remember Phillipe our Golden Triangle Frenchman a few years ago when he bought the Microwave at Carrefour and tried to zap the pizzas off the already overbundled electric hookup at MB? Had a dozen or so angry campers looking for the cause of their loss of electric.
