That's good news, no more roundabouts and trucks that only just reach 50kph before slowing for the next one. Saying that, we have had some good meals in past years when we have stopped in places like Gace and Sees.
Tasteless motorway service food from now on then.

You won't need to stop, Bob - you'll be in LM that much quicker.

Del
Yes

Time saved: don't know - have always been a Pompey man so I dont know the road either before or after

Cost of road:  Many millions of euros - probably most of it paid for by us

Cost to use:  Insignificant, I should imagine, in costs of the whole trip

Not only does the A28 connect to Le Mans. For those of us who travel further south it will connect Lemans to the N10 at Potiers , whuch in theory should knock off at least 2 hours travelling time down to Cognac and beyond from Calais

I assume you mean the A28 extension from Ecommoy to Tours, Wishy.  I didn't know that bit was under construction.  When is that due to open?

I'm buying another one!  Its dragging the 'van through Rouen thats the problem, but it does look like a major A28 bypass is planned.  They just need a bridge over the Seine

From Dover, try going via Paris but waypointing (?) Chartres. We did that this year, admittedly on the Sunday before the race, and had a great run - nearly all motorway door to door.

Not necessary now I suppose...

Its surprising that there isn't a bit like the M25 west of Paris.  There are odd bits of motorway, but we tried it a few years ago and found it confusing, but not that bad on reflection.

Just heard that the remainder of the A28 from Le Mans to Tours may now open in December 2005, four months earlier than scheduled.

Please keep an eye out for news on the section to the North i.e. the Rouen Bypass.  Its then motorway all the way - so different from a few years back when it was all country lanes
