Title: Houx Annexe vs Maison Blanche
Post by: Dobbo on June 25, 2005, 08:18:52 pm
I was camping on HA this year and had a brilliant time but am considering defecting to MB in 2006 to try something different. Anyone got any views about which is best?

I've been into the tarmac part of MB briefly whilst lost. Does the section that extends to trackside at the Porsche Curves also belong to MB? Where is the nearest entrance to the circuit? How does the atmosphere compare to HA?

I’ve been reading the ‘Will MB be allocated in 2006?’ thread with interest but as I normally arrive Wed lunchtime I’m assuming I wouldn’t have any trouble finding a decent pitch on MB?

If there is anyone out there with experience of both sites, lets here your views  :)

A quick answer...

MB was still fairly empty on Wed. Not the prime spots, obviously.

It is techically inside the track i.e. you have to show your entry ticket to get out and back in. I.e. if you walk in the main gate you can walk all the way down the grandstands and into MB without showing a ticket again...

The atmosphere is tremendous, especially for CA members, as there are simply so many of them there. It depends what you want, but I can't go in any direction from my camp without having to stop and share a beer or three with someone. That's my idea of a campsite!! :) However there are obviously a lot of non-CA people there who also seem friendly enough.

I would guess that HA is slightly more out of hand for entertainment and fireworks etc, and that MB attracts a slightly more "upmarket" camper (if there is such a thing). More caravans and mobile homes that HA.

My experience of HA was in '97 and '98. For me, for the reasons above, MB is the place to be - but HA would come a close second!

Absolutely. top hole Smoker man.  Valet parking, room service and entertainment were second to none.  I say this even though we were pitched between the JPC and DFH mega-centres, with a soupcon of Cutler and SPS thrown in.

Will be there next year (hopefully), in my own 'van.

Difficult to make direct comparisons (home is where you make it), but having stayed on most sites over the years, I feel more happy on MB - maybe because of the many CA'ers there.

Cheers everyone. Upmarket camping sounds brilliant, especially with all this talk of yobs!

To get in and out of MB do you have to use that stretch of road than runs past Bleu?

(the road where the idiots were smashing bottles on the road last year and then asking you to perform a burnout!)

By car, yes. Except earlier in the week when you can usually go out through the main gates (and the yobboes aren't there anyway!)

This is the posh end of MB, inc. the Gulf 'van - tin rooves as far as you can see, with a few tents

It's the idiots that stalk the road outside that put me off MB.

Pity, as the last few years I have been in Karting Nord and often look across the track and muse if the grass is greener.......

Most of the "idiots" are outside Bleu Sud which you don't have to go past to get into MB, unless you're coming from the Arnage direction.

I think you should worry more about driving past JPChenet's village and being drawn into an unsavoury world of lethal cocktails and gambling.

Coming from the grandstand end of the circuit the entrance to MB is on the left hand side, a large gate in the concrete wall, yes?

Did they extended the wall further down the road (towards the roundabout) this year to keep MB and Blue Sud seperate along the 'idiot' road?

Bleu Sud is completely separated from MB, the only way in on that side of the camp is via the large gate you speak of.

Most of you probably already know but MB and Houx sold out a while back with Just Tickets. I put down my deposit for Houx Annexe today and I was told they only have 30 of those left. Also they have taken quite a few MB bookings for 2007.
