how come audi are having to start with all the penalties? >:( ???
-
Not sure of the details, but I believe it is because they are not fully compliant with the new LMP1 regulations, unlike the Pescalaros.
-
When you say penalties do you mean WEIGHT penalties?
If so it's because all of the R8's entered this year are running to last year's regulations and therefore to maintain preformance parity with cars in the same class but built to the new regs they have to have weight added.
Anyway, don't worry about the Audis - the real interest is in GT1. Come on Aston.
-
The Audi cars (and possibly others) were designed to the old LMP900 regulations and are unable to fully comply with LMP1 regulations.
Hence they have weight and restrictor penalties.
-
So in the true spirit of international motor racing, we slow 'em down, rather than speed 'em up.
The prototype race is destined to be an aside anyway, so who really cares?
It's a bit ironic really, that a team like Champion Motorsports invest so heavily - only to have their car nobbled by the organisers, so that it won't run faster than a Courage (or a DBR9 for that matter, on the straight, at least).
-
Correct Matt, the DBR9 is now reckoned to be as fast as a R8 on the straights.
-
And faster even than the Vettes.
-
This is true - I shall remain magnanamous and not rise to your bait Andrew. I sincerely wish you all the best for the coming weekend. I am very envious - but you are true friends, so please accept my sentiments in the manner intended.
Remember, I am not anti-Aston Martin. Quite the contrary, in fact. I'm sure they will be there at the finish - though maybe not in front.
Have a blast lads!

True. I recall you at the prize giving at Sebring passing the gin bottle around!
Cheers Matt, see you next time in FL.
